  • The humour? It's the fact he didn't bother to check his equipment before leaving town. People like this should stay in the city.

  • @dross750 Wrong again. This is the third time I had used this winch. This is just the first time I had both the winch and the camcorder during the same event. It powers out, so we weren't in any serious situation. We simply chose to pull it out the hard way to show that Mile Marker winches fail to live up to their claims. People like you should think twice before leaving comments.

  • @itsarubiconday lol. Milemarker is the "walmart" of off road equipment. I'm a little biased against Jeeps 'cause I've dragged enough of them out of the woods you'd think I was using them as trailers. I'd recommend to sell that milemarker and save up for a Warn and a second battery setup under the hood.

  • I respect that, and hear what you're saying. Good luck with it and if there's anything I can help you with, give me a shout. Regards!

  • Talked with a Mile Marker tech today which told me that the WD40 is ok, but evaporates...I can deal with that. The "new" fix was to use old motor oil, or low weight...like 5, in place of WD40. If you only use your winch a few times a year, it'll develop the bad free spool sooner than if you use it several times year. i am sure this holds true for any other winch out there on the market, as they have similar gearing etc I'm sure. Hope this helps.

  • @dmassarone1955 I got the same response. When I called them they told me they would walk me through the process. For me, its not the type of customer service/warranty response I expect after buying a $800 winch from MM. It didn't work properly right out of the box because of their wrong doing. Why am I forced to fix it? I was told I could send it back for them to fix it, but I had to pay the $135 to mail it. To me, this is not a winch company standing behind their product.

  • I had the same problem with my Mile-marker PEC8. The first few times using it was a pleasurable experience. However, it got so hard to frees pool where it took 3 of us to get the line out. Called Mile-marker and the tech was really helpful. It wasn't a hard fix, but you had to disassemble the gear end, wipe ALL the factory grease out of the housing, then squirt some WD40 and reassemble. I'll give MM 2 thumbs up. We've been loading 16 ft. logs out of the woods for a few years with no problem

  • It actually is hilarious to see in what you got stuck in...

  • @bmdoublesyou I know. I know. I thought for sure when I posted this there would be a lot more Jeep bashers, but it hasn't been that bad.

  • @itsarubiconday I am sorry for your luck (if one can call it that way) ... it looks like you got to get your hands on a winch , that wasn’t really supposed to be sold in your region... Did you get it solved in the end?

  • i got 2 mm sec8 both motor magnets have all come apart and the motors are more then a new smittybuilt. guess im buyin them. there just to replace trailor winches. i run a warn on my jeep i have run it under a foot of water. and pulled my jeep out.

  • why didn't you check the winch out BEFORE you got stuck?????

  • was going to get a milemarker winch for my ATV but thanks for the warning! I'll choose Superwinch or Warn!

  • Power it out you two idiots!

  • i just bought a new warn it failed on day one the gears inside were not finished properly and ground the inside of the case up warn wants me to pay shipping to send it to a repair shop wont freespool or locked into engage and pull customer service sucks at warn also they said that since i put the winch in freespool and pulled the cable off it was used and i had to ship it.

  • Umm why not spool the winch out in reverese?

  • @bigcmoore Free spooling is nice in our situation as it doesn't drain the battery. (We have a battery on the trailer and a connection on the truck) In this case...let 'er out in reverse! :-)

  • What's your setup.... aside from the winch?

  • warn are no better.

  • My Superwinch 9000 epi hasn't failed in the two years on my rig. Mile marker has serious quality issues.

  • you had money for the rubicon but not the Warn....?

  • @staxripa I didn't have money for a Warn BECAUSE I bought the bought the Rubicon!

  • @staxripa .... agree.... Warn-Warn-Warn...

  • @staxripa .... agree.... Warn-Warn-Warn... Made In The USA!

  • ju8st bought a warn because of this

  • i agree, went went ahead and bought a ramsey 8000 rep, cost more but we'll see how it does, thanks for the advice

  • I couldn't see a close up of the winch, but if you don't correctly re spool your winch line it can bind up, that goes for any winch including Warn.

Also you could of just press reverse on the switch and the line will feed out. Very simple!

Also it may be possible the winch line was frozen, water got in from rain/snow ect and froze, which would make it hard to freespool.

Maybe you didn't have the clutch fully in freespool!

  • @truck93 The line was correctly spooled, I always respool the line at home after I've used it. I now realize I could've used the power out, but I didn't at the time for whatever reason. The line wasn't frozen. The Jeep is garage kept, and this video was shot the fist cold day after a 5 day 40 degree warm spell. I also keep it under a waterproof cover when not using it. And there is only two positions on the clutch, locked and freespool, it's kinda hard to mess that up. It was in freespool.

  • @truck93 I no longer think of MileMarker as a great company to buy from. I have had others write to me and tell me about their bad experiences as well. I just decided to post mine here on youtube to help educate those in the market as to what level of product and customer service they might recieve with Milemarker winches.

  • @truck93 Yea they dont look to bright or tightly wrap, thinking this is his first time ever using a winch.

  • @truck93 Someone else had mentioned the power out and they are right, but we wanted to show how my winch came to me straight out of the box. The cable wasn't spooled perfectly, but it wasn't bound or kinked either. And there was no snow/ice/water in the spool. What you're seeing is my winch in freespool mode. It rerally is just that hard to pull out. Simple as that.

  • screw mile marker they should bend over backwards to make it right

  • @crasharoni1973 Agreed. What irritates me the most is as the agreement to do anything with MileMarker is dizzolving over the last phone call, I told the guy I was an officer in the area's most active Jeep club, and I would be forced to tell my members about this incident. It just had no effect on the guy. So, if they aren't willing to protect their reputation with a Jeep club, how do you think they'll handle a service call from a regular, single Jeeper, or anyone with a MileMarker?

  • Ya, the one neg about the hydro for sure.

  • I've had my MM 9000# Hyrdo for about 14 years now. The only trouble I've had was a failed solenoid that MM took care of even though it was out of warranty. Their entry level electrics are made in China and they know their crap. Get the real deal and step up to a Hydro, no need to upgrade your electrics, will run ALL DAY without a complaint.

    Good luck.

  • @brickit I can't run a Hydro unit cause I don't have my jeep running sometimes with the water height. I intentionally went a electric so I could run it while the Jeep was off. But it's a good point.

  • of course the woman is laughing, she duped you suckers into doing the work.

  • It sucks that it would free spool but you could've put 'er in reverse rather than pulling on it like that.

  • @sciontist I realized that after we got it out. Completely forgot about power out.

  • It's video's like these that made me choose my Warn Winch in the 1st place.. I've had my Warn for about 5 months so far with no issues to speak off. I've also read that Superwinch is also a pretty good brand, especially their new line. From what I saw, Superwinch motors are very efficient, especially when compared to the power hungry Warns..

  • i just ordered a mile marker :/

  • @whatdafloopyjoop Good luck with that! I gotta believe yours will be fine. Although I hate to admit it, I still think they make a good product. I'm just the coincidence here. . . . .

  • @itsarubiconday i used it a few times already. its a sec8. no probs yet. if i have 1 ile prolly make a vid

  • Fuck Warn. Warn is made overseas, just like your MileMarker.

Ramsey is the only winch to own. Made in Tulsa Oklahoma USA.

  • I take it this is the electric MM not the Hydro??

  • Would the winch power out?

  • THANKS FOR THE INFO I;ll spread it around. I guess I will buy a WARN for my Tacoma

  • I am looking for evaluative videos on winching. Thanks for this posting; sorry to hear that the company doesn't really stand behind its product. Good heads up!

  • Thanks for this post. I am in the process of looking for a winch for my wrangler and was going to go with a Mile Marker and now I can rule that out. Thanks for the heads up !!!

  • Should of went with a hydraulic winch, you can pull all day. Less parts to break, only draws 2 amps and can operate under water.

  • @forexjunkie And the Jeep has to be running. I intentionally didn't buy a hydro cause I will sometimes winch in really high water. I don't want to hydrolock cause I had to winch.

  • I have a Mile Marker,POS that quit, I now have a WARN.

  • Is the winch available on all wrangler models or jus the rubicon

  • The winch itself isn't an option when purchasing the Jeep. Only as an aftermarket option.

  • O

I thought they were an option because at the jeep exibit at the auto show

Most of the jeeps had them

  • My winch does the same thing and will not evan work anymore

  • I've had nothing but good experiences with the mile marker customer service

  • That's weird. I had a MM 8000lb that i ordered from summitracing, i contacted summit and they called MM directly when the platic on/off switch broke. There's a new one i my mail box the same week. Hate you a bad experience.

  • thats complete bull they won't pay for the shipping to fix it, but you could easily strip that winch down and fix her in no time they are fairly simple.

  • $113 to ship the winch, that's steep - they wouldn't take it back w/o the cable on it? ought to be about $25 to send it back w/o the cable.

You get what you pay for. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

  • mile marker winches aren't cheap

  • why use your winch when you have a rubicon. hey come with locking diffs. front and back.

  • Lockers are no good when you're up to your axles in ice.

  • I own a Warn winch and do not know how there customer service is. It has not let me down yet. BTW my winch has been on 3 different Jeeps (XJ, TJ, and now a JK) that I have owned. I have replaced the cable atleast 5 times.

  • I too had a hydralic MM for about 2 years and worked great. Untill i ate the PS pump up. My fault on that. Then bought an x800i warn about 4 years ago and i abuse the shit out of it. third cable on it. i have even had the uper case break off where the 4pack relays are, and it still worked. even had it in a river for an hour. Took it apart to regrease it and to this day, it still pulls hard. My neighbor has a 12000 MM electric and has failed 3 times. Now runs a warn xi9000 on his f350.

  • Ive had a MM hydraulic winch for 4 years with no problems - i explore through out africa and its never let me down - AFRICA PROOF!

I cant say anything about the MM elec winches, ive never owned one

  • My mile marker E9000 crapped out on me, the motor broke, the magnets shattered. I'm just done with electric winches, I'm getting a hydraulic one next time.

  • I also had trouble with my 12000 lb MM. It was a pain to free spool as well then one day my tj got stuck went to use the winch it quit working, so i pulled it all apart and my six month old winch was all rusted up in the moter. if you buy a mm winch go with the hydraulic. they are way better.

  • Its not as isolated as you might think! I too have the same problem with mine (si9500). But not only is it tight I found out this past weekend that my 2 year old elec. MM has a sever rust/corrosion problem in the motor casing. The winches motor housings are not sealed at all! Mine has never been under water and the motor internals have rusted so bad from condinsation that the motor brushes have fused themselves to the brush housing. Short term investment good...long term investment...bad!

  • I have had good luck with my harbor frieght winch for half of that price used it for dragging scap cars with no wheels onto a flat bed no probs yet 30 cars and still works fine

  • what size did u get

  • wow! I am in the market for a winch and glad I saw this video. It's sad to say, but if a company is well known they wouldn't hesitate to fix ur problem, unlike MM like the way you stated.

  • Are you sure your case isn't some isolated incident and makes no statement on the quality of milemarker's products?

  • I'm not stating that all Mile Markers are like this. What I am stating here is that Mile Marker let a $700 winch pass quality control and it reached a customer who wants it fixed. As of 2-18-09, they have not followed through. And an isolated case it is not. They admitted to me that this has happended to several of their winches as they were testing new oils in the clutch housing. I think it should be fixed without any out of pocket expense to me. They feel differently. Thats my story here.

  • I'm looking for a winch too...

I wont be buying a MM.

    Thanks for the heads up.

  • Looks Mile Marker just got scratched off my list. Thanks for info.
