He is right, Iran (Persia) and China are the only two dominant civilizations in the world. China has just stayed in its own territory, but Iranian culture has influenced the whole middleeast and the west.
The Iranian people are traced to the ancient Indo-European Aryans known as the Iranians or Proto-Iranians.
Iranian people have played an important role throughout history, the Achaemenid Persians established one of the world's first multi-national states, Scythian-Sarmatian nomads dominated the vast expanses of Russia and western Siberia.
In his will, Professor Frye has expressed his wish to be buried next to the Zayandeh River in Isfahan. This request was approved by Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in September 2007. Two other American Iranologists, Arthur Pope and Phyllis Ackerman, are already buried there.
hey this guys a genius and i hope one day the world realizes that iran is not one damn islamic/arab country with islamic/arab culture and language and people, but Persian only ;)
@XUltra00 If you read Frye's work, which clearly you haven't you will understand and learn that Iranians contributed to Arab culture and influenced Islam, even adding another element to Islamic religion, culture, architecture, etc. The first Arabic grammar scientists were Persian, al-Zajj and al-Farsi. Most Iranian Muslim polymaths like Ibn Sina, Biruni, Nasir Tusi, Razi, Khwarizmi, Ganjavi, Hafez, Molana, Ferdowsi, Sadi, Suhrawardi, Mulla Sadra and the list goes on and on. Frye's books are good
Every word this man said is true, and i feel the same. For very long time people have ignored the contribution of greater persia, today when people say middle east, they just think about what the arabs have done, but they forget that 99% of the inventions in whatever feel, and all the greatest islamic architecture etc comes from Greater iran.
Completely true my friend...many muslims are bragging around with what they call "their contributions" to the world and then they name Razie, Avicenna, Hafiz, Saadi, Rumi ....do I have to mention where they come from? Without Persian scholars, Islam would have hardly any contributions to the world! And yet the Arabs hate us...hmm. By the way, thanks for the upload!
just for people to know...if you see these types of scounts with just numbers and they coment on videos that are anti Islamic republic, they are most likely basiji people from the IRI wich are spreading propeganda... not that CNN is getting lots of influence from Israel is a lie...
I found the questions of the journalist a bit ignorant, what has the history of a country and its people to do with its current government?! I just recently started being interested in Persian history and I would love to go to Iran one day. This immense culture and that history is just overwhelming - I am a Brit and we have NO culture compared to Iran. I hope the Iranians will forgive us for the sins that my ancestors committed in terms of your history and hope the Iranians will be free soon.
Thanks for uploading this! Richard Frye is a wonderful human being who knows how to distinguish between the people of a country and their government. May God bless him!
Youre most welcome. Thanks for watching, I agree with you, professor Frye is the one who knows more than many Iranians about their land, history & pride, thats why hes fallen in love with this ancient nation. Unfortunately, there are always some traitors who turn their back to this land and honorable people to clink to power for a season, but the Iranian people have proved they wont tolerate such betrayals. History has shown the winner will the people of Iran.
Yes I agree with you, I hate vatanforoushs of all kind, esp the current ones to be honest! I like Frye's spirit how he calmly talks that the current status in Iran will not last - without using the warmongering talks of others. God bless you both!
Frye felt that Persian civilization was under-appreciated by other Muslims, and Arab Muslims in particular. Frye wrote:
"Arabs no longer understand the role of Iran and the Persian language in the formation of Islamic culture. Perhaps they wish to forget the past, but in so doing they remove the bases of their own spiritual, moral and cultural beingwithout the heritage of the past and a healthy respect for itthere is little chance for stability and proper growth." London: ButlerTanner, 1989
America is ru by the Evangelists so why is it accepted? Is it because it is ok for Jews and Christians to do anything and that's accepted because Jesus died for their sins and the Jews are chosen people of Israel.
Yes Professor Richard Frye teach them! It is time for the world to rediscover Iran. Iran means Greater Iran, it means the land of Cyrus the Great. It means the land of the ONLY CONTINUOUS CIVILISATION in history.
Iran once we free you from mullahs (as Professor said it is in the course of history) we will build you again.
Its good that the professor realises that the mullahs dont make the nation of Iran but its the people who are called Iran! Iranians are now an opressed people looking for a way out of the everyday headaches like the Basij and the moral freaks!! But whats with the professor? he sounds a bit odd stammering and... should I say WOODY ALLEN? Whatever! His son is after China it seems! What a family!!
i can't speak Farsi but I hope to learn it someday. Many of the words that I know in Farsi are through URDU and even more words From the Ancient Sanskrit that I use in Hindu Fire prayers are still in use in regular Farsi. But I'm sorry, I dont wish to learn the Arabised Farsi but the Unadultrated form. Farsi sounds majestic & beautiful and its like sugar rolling in your mouth! Poetic recitations in Farsi are stunning even for the foreigners!!
Persian never was arabised.Languages borrow and lend.That's how they grow.There are many personalized words with Arabic roots have being used in Persian for over 1000 years, they deserve to be called Persian.Their application,functions,Grammar,meaning, usage,pronunciations,shape,spelling,were persianised.Arabs wouldn't understand a term of Persianised Arabic-rooted sentence.This has made Persian Lnaguage powerful, beautiful,flexible sweet & Poetic.Theres only one Persian Language in the world.
Maybe I havnt been correct in haste. I listened to the Parsi poems that were recited at the Norooz meeting at the Fire Temple by the Dastoorji(Zorastrian head). these were from the Saved manuscripts that were bought by them to India when the Arabs invaded. I haven't been fortunate to listen to poems of today's Farsi but I'd like to. My interests lie more in the old language & so I said I'd prefer the older unadultrated form. :-)
thank god,at last there is a man who knows about cultures and civilizations,thank you sir,we love you too,but if you can ,in anyway help us to show our true faces to the whole world,that what they see today in iran,do not represent us persians.thank you again for your kind words and thank asieh namdar for this interview

To understand Iran historyn & culture, one should read excellent book Iran , Empire of Mind By Michael Axworthy
Anyone who knows, and knows that he knows, Makes the stead of intelligence leap over the vaults of heaven;
Anyone who does not know, but knows that he does not know, Can bring his lame little donkey to the destination nonetheless;
Anyone who does not know, and does not know that he does not know, Is stuck for ever in double ignorance
Nasir-od-Din Tusi(1201-1274)
