  • Love James' voice, still I like Oleta's version better

  • THE most beautiful and definitive version of this song I have ever heard was a live performance by Steve Brookstein and his wife Eileen Brookstein. Unsurpassed, wish it was available on youtube

  • @floramargarine I prefer Sarah Vaughan live version

  • I have never heard this side of this song! my wife loved it to the bed were she raped meeeeee!!!!!!!!!.... PLEASE PLAY IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!

  • James did a great job on Quincy's tune. Thank you for posting it!

  • True, everything must change except the Almighty!

  • @deepinbrain - And actually, I did not say I did not like it. The only pretension here is yours for assuming that somehow my opinion is not worth of expression because you don't like my words. Perhaps next time you will take a tip and read and understand what is said, select your words a bit more carefully, and respond more thoughtfully.

  • @deepinbrain - because I love music, I do listen with my heart. It saddens me that my opinion makes you uncomfortable. It also saddens me that the words that I choose to describe both what I think and feel may be offensive to you. My comments were neither ugly, disparaging or negative. They simply state my preference and why. You know nothing of my heart, or how I intpret the soulfulness of music. But comments and opinions are free, so I am okay with what I have said.

  • @L78lancer I don't want to change your opinion, and i didn't say you are negative or offensive. What i said is more like an advice than critique, and i know i might have been somehow harsh, but listening to this song and reading your comment at the same time made me think.I didnt select my words carefully and thoughtfully just because english is not my native language, forgive me that.Cheers ;)

  • James wrote the song! Then released the first recording with Q on "Body Heat" (1974) which was first gold album for both men.

  • @rq11us - Actually, Bernard Ighner wrote the song for that Album and did the vocals. Check the liner notes.

  • This cover is...okay. I generally love James Ingram, but the slight uptempo in the middle actually detracts from the depth and soul of the song. His vocals and phrasing are a bit too much for such a mellow song. It feels more like a cross between a gospel and a pop song. Sara Vaughn, Walter Jackson, Nina Simone, Oleta Adams, George Benson, Della Reece, even Barbara Streisand managed to maintain more of the integrity of the song. Yes, everything must change, but not this way.

  • @L78lancer Ok,maybe you know something about music, and i know this is your opinion, but please next time try to listen with your heart. Its just pretentious and ugly to analyze a song like this with your fancy words and compare it with its other versions. When it comes to soulful and beautiful music all the words should fade away, especially when they question the fascination of the song.
