My absolute favorite out of the Monitors wonder if they are for sale out here in the States in California? gonna go to at my local reptile store to soon to see but probably not :p I really want one of these.
@Emoneyo2 no, you're not going to be able to find one in a pet store in California. Don't fret about it, because unless you either live in southern California and can build a large outdoor enclosure, or have a huge spare room to sacrifice, you wouldn't be able to house one as an adult, anyway.
@crocdoc2 I actually am from Southern California btw and space isn't really a problem either just wanted to if they were legal out here but thanks for the info anyway I do my research and read a lot about monitors so yeah I might just stick to a Savannah, Nile, or Water Monitor since those are a bit more cheaper but thanks again:)
Do you cut little slits in the egg to help them out? If you do how do you when their ready? On average how long does it take for a monitor be ready to hatch?
@L3PR3CHAUN97 it's never a good idea to cut monitor eggs. They pip when they're ready. It takes the small monitor species around 90-120 days to hatch, larger species much longer. Average for lace monitors and perenties is around 225-250 days.
@Buckmeister24 I just think lace monitors are a better proportioned monitor and I also prefer the black and yellow colouration over the browns of the perentie. It's a personal thing. Not sure if you'd call it personality, but lace monitors have a bit more of a 'take no prisoners' attitude than perenties. They're both nice monitors, though.
the 1 in with the lace montiors will all the cliffs and that . i have a 10fL 5FD ,5fH tnk sitting empty and i want to get a monitor 4 it so i what the tabk to fell more homey for it
You'll want to use a less time consuming method than this one. I made a model by carving up blocks of high density polyurethane foam, made a mould by covering it with latex backed up with cloth and then made a multi-piece support mould (aka mother mould) out of fibreglass. After the fibreglass cured I removed it and the latex, reassembled them then cast the mock rock cliffs (there were two pulled from the same mould) out of pigmented polyurethane elastomers with sand and crushed rock thrown in.
Do you mean the backdrop in this enclosure or in the larger enclosure with the lace monitors? This one was bought at Universal Rocks. The big mock rock cliff in the lace monitor enclosure in my other videos was the one I made myself.
Sort of like niles and water monitors and maybe more? Always better to see them in their natural environment, but not always possible. Still nice to see them looking so healthy.

why do you like lace monitors so much? is it there general personality or just looks? how would you compare a lace monitor to a parentie?

Amazing lizards! Maybe the most beautiful varanid that exists in the world today. And excellent video also, though it's silent ;-)
How is their temper?
Viperalus 3 years ago
If the video had sound, all you'd hear is squelching sounds anyway.
Temper?
crocdoc2 3 years ago
Sorry, I wanted to write temperament.
Viperalus 3 years ago
their temperament is like that of every other monitor I've dealt with. Calm if you interact with them the right way.
