Buying unlocked is the best. i mean you only buy network if you cant afford outright.. why u ask..

1. unlike what you say companies release software updates a heck of a lot faster then networks, cuz networks need to add/delete shit from the software to make it compatable to ur locked phone

2. as above network phones are crippled, most features disabled and adding random shit makes them slower...

No way man the HTC touch still got that small ass touchscreen shit and a fake ass virtual keyboard. The HTC is slow as hell too, you gotta wait for the animation to end in the menu before you can get to the program. Had the Touch hated it, bought it returned it the next morning. worst of all if your drunk and you need to call a cab how the fuck you gonna call a cab with a stylus punchin those tiny ass buttons. Go with the Palm man, that the best.

It does look like network phones have some nice options over unlocked phones, but can you run the GPS off applications; Garmin, etc. on Windows Mobile? Or does the the greedy ass network disable so they can charge a monthly service charge to access whta is free?

It's got its own GPS antenna built in, so the network can't charge you for using it. It's the same as having an in-car one on your dashboard. Garmin & TomTom have WM6.1 compatible versions that you can load straight in. And yes, the network locked phones are slower, due to their individual software installations.

the touch HD is GSM/HSDPA so either AT&T or t-mo is where it will go..

That's not necessarily true because only the European versions are GSM, which doesn't equate to making them GSM for their American counterparts. Just look at the Diamond and Pro, both are GSM in foreign markets but are only available for American CDMA carriers Sprint and Verizon. I seriously doubt that this phone will be on any other carrier besides Sprint (maybe Verizon).

Unlocked phones being shittier than the carrier version is not always the case hench the tytn 2 and at&t's tilt I got a chance to play with both and liked the tytn 2 better even though all you really needed to make the tilt like the tytn is a rom flash minus the front camera but that HTC HD sounds interesting I saw the prototype pics you posted before somewhere else and hopefully it'll be impressive and don't want to say it'll be an iphone killer because functionality wise I've had better phones
