And this video, which revolves around a project sponsored by international corporations, has really made me ponder. And I do not think that developing "cute" projects like this, would not suffice to whitewash the sins committed against the indigenous owners of Africa...
However, after Africans lost their lands as a result of the colonisation, they were forced to live in cities built by the colonisers very close the large water resources, and as a result they started to die of an illness of which they had been intact until that time: malaria. This problem is still there, obviously affecting the poor Africans only. --- pls read on..
Before the colonisation of Africa, the people there had known for generations how to avoid malaria by simply building their settlements away from the rivers. A large number of the first western colonisers has lost their lives, because they did not know this simple fact.
@badeschiff many thanks for your comments but i'm not sure of your exact point. Are you suggesting we should not do such projects and if so what would you suggest.?
@barrija2 dont have anything against such projects, but what i argue is that these wont be enough to reach the desired outcome.. larger scale action is required to mitigate, if not reverse, the capitalistic ill-development, more specifically the ill-urbanisation. for example, elaborating well informed plans and raising funds for balanced rural development can be a cure, rather than delivering assistance in individual cases. can you do that? then i will praise you...
we have different desired outcomes. Yours you have explained and hopefully are active in trying to achieve. My desired outcome is simple, to make sure every child who contracts malaria has fast and easy access to a cure and so reduce the unnecessary daily death toll of 2400 people, mostly children.
