guys!!! october sales = marvel 40%, dc 37%!!!! were winning!!!
oh and top six books of the month, all blackest night. the only reason why marvel is up there is cuz of all the bullshit, overpriced dark reign garbage. but still.. YAY!
Yes, when Doom found a woman he was once in love with and killed her so that he could turn her flesh into armor. Pretty despicable and went relatively unremarked on in the comics community.
Had Jose and I this show when it occurred, we would have taken Mark Waid to task as much as we do Bendis.
I have to admit though I actually liked that story because to me, it took Doom from being a head villian to THE head villian in comics. I mean, you can't get any worst than sending your enemy's child to hell.
The fact that that little ramification has never been touched on again, Frank should be in therapy for years, bugs me.
And don't get me started on Baby girl Val now only growing faster than Frank but also being smarter. What the heck is that all about?
I don't think it was that unremarked by fans, Elliott. I was reading Waid's run then and he got some Nasty letters from pissed off long-time FF/Doom fans.
I thought it was awesome, though. He gave Doom some balls and actually made him live up to his moinker of DOOM.
It might be too soon to tell but, from what you guys have heard about Siege, does it seem that it might change your opinions about Marvel in the future?
I'd liked to ask, and I'm looking for any response. What do you guys think of the new JLA lineup as of Next Year? Green Lantern(hal), Green Arrow(oliver), the Atom(Ray), Batman(dick), Mon-El, Donna Troy, Cyborg, Doctor Light, Starfire, Congorilla, and the Guardian.
I am not personally buying Cap Reborn, but I am nary surprised when Marvel ups the ante on its fans. It's par for the course at this point. It can't last forever...
I stopped buying Reborn at #2... just not worth my money. For those who bought GLC#42 what did you guys think about the ending??? Isn't Dr. Doom gonna betray / fight Norman in Seige: The Cabal? Maybe the ace-in-the-hole will be revealed then? Dark Avengers, in my opinion, the worst ongoing out there right now. J, do u actually get asked if DA is any good and say, "Fuck hell no!"??? Just curious...
Elliott's stealin' my ideas! I coined the title Captain America: Afterbirth!! It's on your boards somewhere. Oh well, you can have it... just don't turn a 5 issue mini into 7. And don't charge fucking 3.99 for it!
I wouldn't be surprised if E was stealing your ideas. Now you know how I feel. He probably deleted your comment to cover his ass when the series comes out.
So that's where all my comments have been going... let me guess, in the next arc of AOD, Ash is going to fight some demonic entity called "Pobra"... actually that would be pretty awesome. Do it Elliott!
How is the Hood a rapist?!?!?! I have read most of the books the Hood has been in. I don't read all the Avengers initiative books, but in the rest he is okay.
The Hood is more of a street thug who becomes darker and darker. He is the supervillain kingpin, officially (not counting Osborn)
While he may not have assaulted her sexually, he did violate her. Imagine being assaulted by a group of men in your own bedroom, all the while someone is recording it. That's a violation of one's self. I can't Bendis expects me to give 2 s**ts about The Hood and his 'quest for power' knowing what a despicable character he is.
It's true, I can't think of another DC book in recent memory that has had more delay, except possibly Legion of the Three worlds. I heard that this is because Geoff Johns tends to only write an issue a week as he absorbs himself in the mythology of the book that he is working on for that week.
Still, that books delay makes some of his involvement in Blackest Night seem a bit odd, since the whole idea of his rebirth hasn't been finished yet. I think it will all come out in the wash though.
I really wish Marvel would take a break from their year long/summer events, and just get back into character stories. Becuse those ones are the best, and writers like Fraction, Slott, Hickman, all dive into character development, and that helps makes the story enjoyable.
i saw a interview of BMB and he said that he does write alot of good stories but marvel wants him to decompress it all into something smaller so i think that MABY thats why he is forced to have them all talk and not fight because he has to get the plot to be reckonized and move on. maby if marvel wasnt being a dick to him he might be better....IMO great segment!!!
I think you are talking about me. Personally I don't read Dark Avengers, I mean I've read Some issues but it's not a book I would buy, nor do I think it is a good book. The whole thing seems kind of crazy to me. But I'm sure there are some people who like. Basically my problem with it is, Spider-Man's arch-nemesis is leading the team and, from what I know, no mention of Spider-Man has been said. If you ask me the Siege should be about Spider-Man taking down the Green Goblin. Thats just me.
It is rather galling that Spiderman has been 'bumped down' as Osborne's main rival. One of the things that has annoyed me the most about New Avengers is that Peter Parker is a wallflower when it comes to dealing with super-villains. He rarely contributes anything to the cause except for a joke here and there. And that surprises me considering BMBs affinity for the character.
It is a strange thing in regards to what Marvel is doing with AoA. It appears as though they are trying to have a AoA book without actually printing one by having them appear in several other titles. And not just one shots, but a continuing overall AoA storyline that just happens to bounce from one book to the next. I wonder how much this attempt to keep the Agents going is Marvel's idea or Parkers, the man appears to really love his AoA, but I will give Marvel the benefit of the doubt.
Sorry to keep harping on this but I really find this situation with AoA fascinating. Maybe someone can help me out with this, but can anyone remember a time when a group or hero got his book canceled(or in AoA case sent into hiatus) and got more exposure and ink then when the book was running? I sure would like know the back-story on this, I suppose I should just shut up and be happy Marvel is keeping them around. They have become one of my favorite super teams, I like the quirky stuff =)
I think some of this might have to do with Marvel wanting to keep Parker a happy camper. They are giving him real some shit books to write like Fall of the Hulks and the Red Hulk miniseries.
Imagine if AoA was outright canceled and Parker had to go from that to writing mostly Red Hulk stories (with some T-Bolts on the side).
Thanks guys for adding that bit about Flash Rebirth. Flash Rebirth #4 was ranked 14th in August top 300 rankings. The only BMB books I am reading are USM HCs of vol. 1 & Powers tpbs & look forward to a new "Powers" #1. Avoiding the Siege from the start. Finishing up Cap Reborn & that is it.

You are obviously not aware of the retconning skills of one Brian Michael Bendis.

i think marvel did it before this year as well, with the x-men mini worlds apart.
the first issue said 1 of 4 and suddenly switched to 1 of 5.
could have been a misprint but i'm not sure.
