  • volkan konak degil mi la bu!

  • gentle and great

  • I stumbled on this video by accident about a month ago. I've been listening to frame drum music ever since, and I am starting to learn how to play as well. Thank you for the upload!

  • This is neat-o playing, it would be excellent for some kind of ethereal soundtrack.

  • il ne suffit pas d'avoir le tambour ad hoc!

    quel talent!!

  • He made a couple mistakes.

  • @PorroFirst In which moments?

  • That "woooooooo" sound he make son there blows my mind!! At first I was a skeptic thinking that there wasn't much you could do on a frame drum. You have proved me wrong and I thank you! Amazing!!

  • Amazing!!!

  • Internal Combustion

  • The end was TOO Good!

I have to make my frame drum playing skill better now.

  • The end was TOO Good!

I have to make my frame drum playing skill better now.

  • The Singing sound he also makes is very very nice. Damn Good!!!

  • Remarkable

  • Glen Velez is the master. Thanks for posting this, I've never seen him perform "in person" before, only via CD or Radio.

    this is sooooooooooooo good

  • The waves are the sounds that travels him to meditate and to be him self,as a great percussionist.Drum, the oldest sound on Earth

  • bravo

  • In his piece "Dawn" (glenvelez com), what is the instrument that makes that sound as though one were swinging it in a high wind?

  • Nice.....

How different Glen looks now. More relaxed and refined movements, IMHO.

    Search 'Glen Velez Solo Performance'.

Thank you so much for sharing it.

  • Amazing drumming and amazing sound.

  • hört euch misirli ahmet an...listen to misirli ahmet...i think much more better...if not the greatest in this genre...

  • fantastisch und meisterhaft - absolut faszinierend !

  • How many inches is the diameter of this drum?

    Is it tunable?

  • yeah, was thinking it would be a sweet duo

  • I'm thinking it would sound like two pachyderms farting...

  • Does anyone know specifically what kind of remo frame drum this is? After watching this and some other videos, I'm quite interested in learning to play the frame drum. I've played rock and jazz drums as well as some other instruments. Does anyone who plays have any opinions on whether this is the type of instrument one can learn without a live teacher? Thanks in advance.

  • I believe this is a bodhran.

There are many types of frame drums and many different ways to play them.

Look into: daf, doira/dayereh, bodhran, mazhar, riq, tamburello, pandeiro, and bendir

With a lot of practice and the help of the internet, you should be able to learn a good amount on your own.

  • @glorplaxy missed tombak!

  • @mabz9 but tombak would be considered a goblet drum, not a frame drum

  • @glorplaxy bodhran is played with a stick

  • @nimajnebenneb: Not in this case. And some Irish bodhran players don't use tippers (i.e., sticks); just their hands.

  • @nimajnebenneb modern bodhrans are not played with sticks. this is a modern bodhran. look at the bodhrans made by companies like david roman drums and cooperman. glen velez actually uses bodhrans for finger-style playing very often.

  • @glorplaxy I play like this style with bodhran.

  • @glorplaxyI don't think it's a bodhran. A frame drum - more Mid-Eastern than Irish although Remo might of made it into a hybrid of the two drums.

  • @mrpokeymcpoke this is a 22 inch synthetic head frame drum, i've been playing for years and i teach in NYC. you can teach a lot on your own but its always better to have someone guide you. hope this helps you

  • Glen is the absolute top on framedrums...saw him do things never saw before...just amazing...love tha guy`s talent

  • Fantastic!

  • amazing. Was lucky enough to take a class with him yesterday. He is an marvelous teacher.

  • brilliant stuff!

  • the master

  • Incredible...

  • what is the "skin" madterial on these frame drums?

  • Remo drums are usually synthetic. I have not seen one that is not.

  • I have just arrived from a master class on frame drums he gave in Casa da Música do Porto, Portugal. I must say he is a really great teacher and a fabulous musician. We learned bohdran techniques, tar and shakers. He also taught us how to do overtone singing. I enjoyed it a lot and I recomend the attendance to other events by him.

  • i had never imagined that this many sounds could come out of a single, simple drum...

    i give him respect.

  • can i have this in mp3 please

  • CLAP CLAP CLAP! excellent! BRAVO!

  • This guy does magic!

  • whoever decieded to take the beads out of an ocean drum, i thank you.

  • Ha! That is hilarious!!! Good one!

  • Magnificent. Thank you so much.

  • Friendship and music....LIVE IT.

  • he's slightly pressing his finger down while sliding directly after the hit at the top. the slide motion allows him to create some sort of length of the note, and the change in pitch comes from him pressing inward and letting off.

  • Great instrumental performance. Thanx for posting!

  • wow.

First time seeing both a frame drum played, and Velez.

    Thanks! Now I want one!

  • What size is he using there? I'm looking to buy a remo drum myself and was wondering if 16" is enough. Thanks for all the help :)

  • I've just purchased a Remo 22" Frame Drum like this one although the Rim on his looks slighly deeper than mine. I don't know how he gets that sound when he slides his fingers across the drum.

  • You just push down on the head and move your finger across it

  • make your fingers wet and sweaty, it helps ;)

  • It's not unlike making a wine glass ring. Your "skidding" finger makes resonance.

  • MotherFucker!!

  • The Deff drum is a circular frame drum. The frame is often decorated. Frame drums are among the oldest and most versatile of drums. Many cultures have frame drums: the Egyptian rik, the Brazilian pandeiro, the middle eastern tar and bendir, and native American versions.

  • Is that a teaditional Irish Bohdran? What is the name of that drum?

  • ^ there

  • perfect music!

  • geometric music

  • waa??

Is that ghostlike sound really coming out of the drum?

  • Yeah. It's insane, right?

  • crAzy!!

What its industry name? Is it in the market?

  • It looks to me like remo...

  • now this is what I call music

  • gives me chills. . .

  • libbs, beleive me. i've passed up tons of those and my mom is as healthy as an ox.

  • Very Kool

  • yea!!!!!!

  • me encanta ese sonido......

  • bloody brilliant!

  • ALIII

  • that is just great!

  • how does he do the wooshing slides without licking his finger 1st? i thought your finger has to be wet to do so

  • he puts violin resin on his drum which makes it sticky.

  • not true. hes just that good

  • amazingly tastfull performance.Thats a really deep shell compared to the ones remo sell these days. does anyone know what diffrence if any there is between deep and shallow frame drums? is that 18" or 16"?

  • actually i think it's either a 20'' or maybe a 22''. The deep frame gives your left hand better support when playing this style.

  • @codgerfiasco Deep shells have much more 'dum'.

  • @codgerfiasco Deep shells have much more 'Dum". That one's much bigger than 18", probably closer to 28".

  • @codgerfiasco Looks like 22''

  • @codgerfiasco The deeper frame drums are called Buffalo Drums. I have a Remo 14" with a graphic on it. The graphic also ads a bit more deeper sound because it is an additional layer on the skin.

  • fenaamış

  • I heard this guy once in Madrid, I think ten years ago, in the Circulo de Bellas Artes, and he sent my mind on a journey so far away that I still find it amazing when I think of it.

  • Very surprised to discover that ; the sound is really ... weird, but I love it and must admire the real skill of this man ; feel like a beginner once again ; that's the way to improve ! So good to share that...

  • With all due respect there are drummer's drummers out there with kits that take a full day to set up...dozens of cymbals and toms and so forth. In contrast there is Glen. Glen, to me, is substantially more valid and intense. It's been said, "If you are a true musician you reduce what you do to nothing." More of that, please. And Glen.

  • Thanks for posting this. I'd read Layne Redmond's book and wanted to hear Glen Velez play.

  • Awesome!

  • süperrrr

    hocammm

  • wonderful, as good as it gets

  • soooooo good!

  • best framedrummer ever...

  • this is amazing!

  • My gob is suitably smacked.

  • WOW i can't believe he was playing a remo!

  • you are the best, where are you?

  • yup

  • That's damn good!!!

  • yeah Glen! btw its Brenda and Dylan.
