Were doing journey this year, and I'm taking on the Don't Stop Believing solo. On trumpet, meaning, I'm going to be the attention. This is great, though.
Ummmmm anybody that comes from ATL and says another band sucks has something coming for them... because all i hear from ATL is rap....... play some originals once in a while
Dude, come on. This obviously wasn't a competition, it say "halftime show" in the title. People don't stick around to watch fancy marching patterns, they stick around to get the hell blasted out of them
Shouldn't there be more marching in a marching band? But it was nice to hear a different take on the Journey show -- we did one last year and hearing Separate Ways brought back awesome memories!
serioulsy.they are called marching bands for a reason, they are supposed to march.this show would never cut it in our band,We have always made superior in everything.all you guys do is stand around and play.how do they judge you in comeptition? I can see if this is your very first show or soomething and you havent learned all of your drill, but you should though.we have to have everything memorized by the first game, thats music and marching..you dont really call yourselves a marching band do you?
for your info the Cal Aggie Marching Band-uh does not compete in any field show competition. This is merely entertainment for halftime at a football game. Unlike some bands who only practice one show for the whole season, the CAMB changes their show every time they perform a halftime show. Depending on the drill the drum major comes up with that week, there may be more marching involved than some other times. With integrating alumni band into the drill, sometimes less moves makes things easier.
don't judge a book by its cover. as an alumni member of the CAMB, I have had my fair share of shows where there was a lot of marching involved in the show. so yes we do march. we march high, we march loud and proud. we are bold blue and bitchin'
Okay, but in the end, no one is gonna give a crap about how stiff necked you were on a football field. This stuff is all about having fun, and being loud and obnoxious, and that is what the crowd, and the entire world, cares about. So go sloppy marching, and out of aligned columns and ranks, and files and whatnot. Judges can kiss booty, cus the Cal Aggie marching band-uh is enterntainment for real people!!!!
But do you go to a concert or buy a CD to listen to music played well, or played loudly? Yes, volume is nice, but skill and precision must play some part. That's why Journey is more popular than, say, The Locust. You can't say fun and noise is all that matters, because countless failed garage bands will tell you that even to these "real people" you speak of with such gushy affection do care about skill.
You have a good point. As more of a concert hall player myself, I agree with you that precision does matte,r so that it actually sounds like music. I was more rebuking the guy a few comments down that was acting like he was god of the field show or something, with his perfection and all. We don't need to be anal retentive about fun field shows.
No offense, but I was expecting a much angrier reply! That's true about fun shows, though that can go too far and be in bad taste, like, say, Jackson State.
That other guy's comment made me a little angry too, but more because he doesn't realize that college bands don't compete; that's what DCI is for, and there should be room for both. I enjoy a good corps performance (Coats 07), but they're usually too cerebral to gather casual appreciation (I'm looking at you, Spirit 2008).
I wasn't angry at all. My response to the other guy was a bit overboard, and your point was very good. We horn players have to worry about precision more than anyone, except maybe the double reeds.
Exactly. This being Youtube, disagreeing with a comment usually nets one an angry reply, so a calm and intelligent one surprised me a little. That's it, and... yeah.

What can i say if you want to see a REAL journey show type in RCHS Warrior Band "The Music of Journey" thats the band i play in nad our show is better. We played Seperate Ways, Any way you want it , Lights, Be Good to yourself and Dont stop believing. This band cant even compare to ours. We got superior ratings in competitions for this.
From a music majors standpoint I tink the show was about a 2 out of 10. Very bad visually. Low Brass too heavy, not a very good trumpet line. Man I so dislike it when bands get so big they cant move on the field.
Bremen Emerald alliance is doing journey :]
any way you Want it
Open arms
Separate ways (worlds apart) &

That said, the Aggie band has that skill, show bands have their place (gimmicks, not so much), and I like the high step better than the glide.
