Correct me if I'm wrong, Saving throws pre-4th ed meant you were going to die if you failed [vorpal-, petrify, falling off cliffs, etc. meant you're dead]. The song is all about getting the girl, taking the chance, asking the question, getting lucky, and praying that [and fighting for] all your +1s lead to higher rolls. I hardly see this lyric as fail, unless you got all the nice DMs or play 4th. I think it should be filed under WIN.

As a dungeon master, you'd only ever have to "save or die" is against extreme conditions, such as vorpal, petrification, massive damage (depending on which game you're playing), and certain poisons. Oh, and vorpal, despite everybody's popular belief, isn't "your head pops off". It actually is merely a limb, and it's at either DM's discretion, or randomly rolled. Either way, DM's discretion, technically.
