Mic Check: Microphone Shootout Shure SM58 vs AKG D 870

What is the microphone that you're using in the INTRO?

I just did a test of all the hand-held dynamic mics that Guitar Center in New York carries. The AKG D5 won. That being said, my AKG D790 blew away the entire range of mics in the category--including the D5--except for the the Neumann KMS 105 (which costs $700!).

I have personally tried both the SM58 and the D870 and hands down favor the D870 for live vocals. We used to use SM58's for live vocals until I saw this shootout and bought a D870 and did my own A/B test. After the other lead vocalist in my band tried it out too, I purchased another and we've been very happy vocally. the AKG D870 sounds clearer and makes it easier to understand spoken word (SM58 sounds too muddy) and we have had less problem with monitor feedback as well. Still want a D5 too!

Thanks for this video, I was about to buy a sm58, but after checking this out I decided to but the AKG D780 for 48 dollars in amazon

Is that the correct model number for the AKG? On their website I can only find a D770.
