They never did a live version of this. (Or none that was on any album they released). It is a cracking track. All the ones from Steeltown and The Seer are though.
"and suddenly I find the truth, and all it is is sighs and youth"
Now that I am 40-something, this line has become remarkably more clear to me than when I first heard it at age 17. As I get older, and wiser, I find my truth - my reality - my wisdom, does not compare to the spirit and energy (and stupidity) or my youth. I sigh. This line carries so much meaning for me now that I am astounded it struck me so hard when I was younger.
What happened to modern music? When I was growing up in the 80's there was such a mix of different sounds- something for everyone, every taste. Now it is all the same shit, different vocalist. Big Country SAID something with their music.
I've been a BC fan for almost 27 years, amazingly, and a day doesn't go by that I don't (a) miss Stuart, (b) marvel that I'm still here, thanks to BC - Stuart et al very much save me from self-destruction, (c) listen to BC, including very wonderful old beauties like this and Angle Park, Giant and All Fall Together. I'm always inspired by the global community that shares my belief that BC was a band apart and that Stuart was a poet and beautiful and tormented soul worthy of remembrance.
omg............. this song was my fave from the steel town album. the words and the music send me to a better place, if only until the song ends. awesome and so faved and saved to BC file,
Bruce Watson is a new band.."Four good men" with the vocalist from h20 derek forbes and mick mc niel ex simple minds, brilliant band check them out....
I remember reading years ago that this song was about the great divide between management and the workers in the industrial sector of Scotland and the Northern UK. I also read somewhere that this was never played live as it was 'too hard' although I could have this confused with "tall ships go" also from steeltown and to my very limited knowledge not played live either.
@isabellle87 was this song a single even? if not, it should've been it's right up there with 'in a big country' , imho...would like to see an official video or live footage if anyone has one too..
Tears in this old man's eyes. What a great track, album, band, time to be alive...

Woohoouuu, great song! I just love it!!
In my opinion never again a band like BC came up! With deep obvious and hidden emotions in music and lyrics... make the engine roar...
