I want this car so bad!! I'm gonna get it once I graduate college. Does anyone know how much the charging increases your electric bill? Less than one stop at a gas station probably lol. Stop buying gas guzzlers!!!
Ok, just test drove it today and I gotta say, what an awsome car! Never much cared for the body style but it dosen't look quite as bad in person. It's a screamin little car with very sporty handling. Not all that "little" inside though, lots of room to stretch out. I brought my pro-oil anti-ev co-worker and he drove it too, he is now a fan. What more can you say. I will however wait and test the Ford Focus EV next year before picking between the two.
@dorkestranerd Well then you stop.Plain and simple. What happens if you run out of fuel with a gas powered car on the freeway? Oh you stop. Haha not much different.
@dorkestranerd You get 100 mile range with this, and if you use your onboard charge monitoring, and remember to charge your car overnight, you will not run out of charge. BUT, now that gas is nearing $5 a gallon, more and more people are being stranded on the freeway, and going broke trying to pay for petrol! Use the wonderful mind that God gave you- The ELECTRIC CAR is a no brainer! PLUS, less oil will be burned, and less dependence on foreign oil, less need for oil, no more oil spills, etc.
I enjoyed the trailer and it looked pretty cool. Now i want to watch the whole movie. Everybody say I can watch it on this site: quickfre+emov+ie + . + com ( Remove the+ + + )

All Electric or Fuck off in my opinion. Electricity is way more efficient than petrol/gasoline. And you can make your own electricity with solar or wind. You can't make your own gasoline.
I wonder how this does in a head on crash test. No big engine to for a barrier. just a frame. It also looks kind of gay. I wish they would make something sporty.
dunno. what happens when the battery runs out. You need a tow truck. Still think a hybrid is a better idea until at least 10% of gas stations have electric charging as well.

I saw Richard Branson on UK Breakfast News when GM we're getting bail out money, and he also said the money should have been given either on the proviso that GM invested radically in Electric or Hybrid vehicles, or given to companies who could produce viable eco vehicles.
Yeah, I agree veganpuddings. The affordability (really low right now for the poor) of alternative energies & going completely green is an issue seldom really focused on by "going green" articles/sites/people that give "tips," and has not yet been solved by any of the "geniuses" today. "Green" IS new, but like you, I hope it'll be more affordable for everyone soon. How can we save the environment when many can't afford to? We can't until then!
(CONT.) We need TRULY affordable electric cars for EVERYONE--SOON. I realize this is relatively new on the market (minus the last time car companies put out these cars, recalled and trashed them) so it will be expensive at first; but I hope they won't always be the type of car only richer citizens can afford. I mean, come on, someone just out of college (with student loan debt) isn't going to want to finance a 25,000 dollar car. No wonder we are in a recession and so many are bankrupt!
In order to save the environment and prevent disaster(s) we HAVE to include the nation's poor in bigger solutions, or they WILL bring the upper class (which is smaller and, thus, will have less impact) down with them. Who can afford a 25,000 dollar car in this recession/depression when millions of Americans are either unemployed, without medical, in debt, homeless, starving, or all of the above (when Nissan estimates the battery will only last about 5 years)? And: how much will a new battery be?
chevy volt is a real piece of shit...they should have harnessed the power of thunderstorms to fuel that piece of shit...because the 230 mpg in the volt is very misleading...

@lavakava Yeah, even if the Chevy volt should be getting FAR MORE miles on that electric motor., it's not a bad looking car. However, GM deserves to be fucked by everyone for killing the EV1 back in the late 90's EV1 was able to make over 100 miles on a charge without gasoline backup WITH NI-CD batteries. And with new lithium batteries, they can't make more than 40? What a scam. FUCK GM.
@lavakava I AGREE............Besides, GM always fought alternative fuel cars, especially when I was a twelve year-old LAD growing up in Los Angeles, California in 1965.....Back then you would CHOKE from the air pollution......LITERALLY choke ! ! !..........I was there, I know.....And did GM give a shit ????
Screw GM..........Buy from Nissan and Honda and still support American jobs.....American car makers have done nothing but to fight laws good for our health......Boycott them...
why are companies still working on battery powered cars when honda has already developed a hydrogen cell vehicle... it is like trying to perfect vhs when you already have dvd..
Because they plan on selling these cars, not leasing them to those who live in a certain area of California. Both cars run off of electricity and use batteries. The only difference in the hydrogen add on, once the battery tech gets better, we wont need that add on anymore.

I think it looks kinda cute, though I'm not a fan of leasing the battery out like Nissan has mentioned. It would be nice, though, to not worry about importing fuel any longer, or seeping oil into ground water while I'm parked. I would love to see Saudi go broke :)
Another hybrid / electric eyesore! Why do all the fuel economy cars look so stupid? The car companies preach it's for aero reasons but last checked the average mile per hour the american goes is like 30 - 35 once you calculate in stop lights, stop signs, drive up windows, etc, etc. I'm all for fuel economy and not shitting on the planet but I'm thinking Hybrid / Electric Camaro, Hybrid / Electric Challenger and so on? WTF? Stop making these pissy looking cars. The designs are horrible!
Electric cars just shift the emissions from your tailpipe to the electric plants. That is true, BUT
Most of those giant electric generators actually work out to be more efficient than the thousands of individual gasoline engines they would replace. (they run full bore at peak efficiency) Plus, if all cars were electric we could focus out efforts on making power plants even more efficient.
Coal and uranium are also domestic products. We need not import them from countries that hate us for it.
You're right. If these cars get more common than there will be a boost in producing electricity around the country more efficiently in order satisfy consumer needs. I am very impressed with this car, it's sleek looking and inexpensive. Just imagine how the world will be in the next 50 years.
it IS a frog! the french own at least part of nissan. if it's under 15 grand I could see this being a success. I would rather see a 2 seat hatch-coupe or roadster. I hope it does well, but I don't see american families buying it. Young hipsters is the market, so this design is probably a bad choice.
Oh and for you idiots who keep marking my comments down, that's fine because you obviously can't think, thats ok I will sit and spell it out for you. First answer me this one question. Where and HOW is the electricity made to charge the batteries on this car. I don't care what you say about coal burning, thats pollutes worse than any gas car on the road, so brew that for a while and then come talk to me. THINK first before you come at with that stupid zero emissions crap.
Ok, somebody please explain to me how this car is better for the environment than my 1988 Chevrolet Caprice with a V8 no Cats or emissions crap hooked up. Think about that for second then respond to me please. I need to know how this vehicle get it's power and how much it takes to charge the batteries. I want somebody to please prove me wrong. Thanks! -Paul
Nissan prevé comecializar el modelo a partir de fines de 2010. Ya firmó 27 acuerdos de cooperación con países (entre ellos Israel y Dinamarca) o colectividades locales, a fin de crear una red de estaciones de carga de baterías.
Technology used is BLDC electric motors. Go google.
Taken from the Nissan press release:
"To yield a full charge, a 200-volt, single-phase AC charger takes less than eight hours, and topping off the battery from a 100 volt single-phase standard home wall outlet will take somewhere around twice that time"

Its supposed to be aimed at a mid/high end family saloon/sedan price range, so here in the UK thats about £20,000.
Now that is expensive for alot of people but people who buy Audis, BMW's and high specced family cars or 4x4's WILL be able to afford them.
Once they start selling, prices will probably drop, and then we'll have 2nd hand electric cars which will be affordable to the rest of the people.

Think about that for second then respond to me please. I need to know how this vehicle get it's power and how much it takes to charge the batteries. I want somebody to please prove me wrong. Thanks! -Paul

What does ZERO emission mean to you?
Your 1988 Caprice on average emits 10.2 tons of CO2 into the air each year.

OK and the power plants that supply the power to charge the batteries?

Nissan prevé comecializar el modelo a partir de fines de 2010. Ya firmó 27 acuerdos de cooperación con países (entre ellos Israel y Dinamarca) o colectividades locales, a fin de crear una red de estaciones de carga de baterías.

seriously, where have you been?
Technology used is BLDC electric motors. Go google.
Taken from the Nissan press release:
"To yield a full charge, a 200-volt, single-phase AC charger takes less than eight hours, and topping off the battery from a 100 volt single-phase standard home wall outlet will take somewhere around twice that time"
