  • whats up with his hair

  • I enjoy their singing more than Lady Gaga. Don't you?

  • Wish I could give ten positives votes, not one only.

  • Simplesmente belo....

  • Why does Sarah always look stoned, now?

  • She does better with bocelli. They look as if they were lovers. But this duet looks as if it were forced.

  • I love Josh Grobans voice at 1:50 it just gives me chills.

  • Every time Sarah Brightman opens her mouth, I just want her to shut up! If only Groban had done this solo...

  • Sarah Brightman is so incredibly, incredibly full of herself it can't help but ooze out of her mouth and cover the stage, and the audience, in an awkward, sticky goo.

  • @Leo3 I agree. I saw her in San Jose a few years ago, and i couldn't get past her self-focus and the 'look at me' outfits to enjoy her voice fully. Sad when you can't let the gift you've been given be the focus.. like sweet through and through Josh.

  • And i jizz in my pantss

  • Sarah Brightman's voice has gotten better with "age" - it takes talent to be able to adapt one's voice to work with another singer. I've heard this song song with Cliff Richard (my favorite), and various other singers, and Sarah always "makes it work". I love this sonq - thanks for posting it on YouTube!

  • Groban is amazing, but he has some songs that aren't so pleasant on the ears. Brightman is the original voice from PTO, the play was created just for her. And her voice has always sounded like that, she has a unique voice, a very operatic voice. This is actually the best version I have heard of this song. I loved Patrick Wilson, but JG would have done a fantastic job in PTO too. :D

  • I *beg* your pardon? You know nothing about me, so I'd rather you didn't attempt pretense when it comes to knowing what others may or may not know about a subject. Each of us have our own opinions - just because you deem yours to be right and mine wrong, that is no reason for you to be so entirely rude. Please take your obvious lack of knowledge and manners elsewhere.

    Regards.

  • Life can be so full of joy and love, if you let it. Everytime I listen to this video, I just find myself carried away from all my troubles. Never mind who sings it, and how good or bad they did it. Celebrate the good things in life!

  • I used to love Brightman's voice. But she's too full of herself, and tries to up her voice without just letting the lyrics of Andrew's song shine through. If only she'd go back to basics. Groban isn't fantastic here, but as a solo artist and with other singers he is amazing. Sarah is mediocre...

  • @Anuketra

Another expert... I know "a bit" about the music business 'A', and all I have to say to you is don't quit your day job at the lumber mill...

  • Josh is the perfect Raoul! PERFECT, I TELL YOU!!!!

  • I like it but she kinda sang soft

  • did she forget how to sing? sounds like she's got a cold

  • amazing

  • sarah voice too powerful for josh ... sarah and andrea are perfect match ....

  • Josh is great, But when it comes to broadway operatic singing he's actually average.

  • Hermoso concierto.

  • What a wonderful concert. I love you SB.

  • This is a tad irrelevant, but Josh Groban reminds me of Peregrin Took!

  • Expected more vocals from Josh Groban. No musical connection with Sarah Brightman. Still they are great singers.

  • Groban's voice is natural talent - Brightman's voice is warbly, overtrilled and reedy - too much coaching, not enough heart!

  • @bartacus1 I am pretty sure that anyone who has anything negative to say about Sarah Brightman's performances will surely burn in the depths of hell. Enjoy your time moron.

  • @bartacus1 Age is actutally what it taking its toll on Sarah, She used to be an amazing singer

  • @bartacus1 you mean too much vibrato? vocal technique that's very hard to master?

  • Beautiful!!

  • Lovely.

  • it would've sounded better in the original key... josh is a tenor who can sing fairly low... but not that low. it doesn't sound right... still good, just not right.

  • I used to love Josh but lately his vibrato is too intense. Still good though

  • @GrissomLovesSara

EXACTLY, Sara! That is precisely the reason that I can't stand him, that annoying vibrato. There are two types of people here, those who are fans and those who know the difference between pop singers and truly great voices. For example, Taylor Swift. She is a truly prodigious songwriter and fall down pretty. Her "adorableness" quotient is off the scale. But a "great voice"??

Please Google: "OPERA REVIEW; A Blind Pop Tenor Takes On the Operatic Stage."

    It's sobering.

  • This isn't the original note.

  • Wow!

  • I was wondering how long it would take for one of the brain dead to reply to my review. Anyone who disagrees with you "music lovers" isn't a human, they're a TARGET. Tell you what. If I'm wrong about Sarah Brightman's so-called singing skills, just try and find one professional singer who has anything even remotely positive to say about her voice. As far as Groban is concerned, once you tire of his warbly, Saccharin tones, they're always be powerhouse singers like Justin Bieber in your future.

  • I know I'm going to be hated for saying it, but I DETEST Josh Groban. He came from the same,

sickeningly sweet mold that created the horrendous Charlotte Church -- pure, unadulterated hype for two singers with all the depth of an after dinner mint. Add the terrifyingly awful Sarah Brightman, who only got the lead in "Phantom" because she was banging the writer, and you have the Holy Trinity of Poor Taste. And what about that "opera singing" fraud, Andrea Bocelli? Can Armageddon be far behind?

  • @tiffsaver Were you born as asshole or did you have to work at it?

If Armageddon comes, I suspect you will be shoveling coal in hell, along with the other trolls on YouTube.

  • @tiffsaver not her best performance but Brightman is the worlds biggest selling soprano of all time, Bocelli is the biggest-selling solo artist in the history of classical music, and groban has sold 21 million cds.

  • @Joshy51112

According to your rationale that just because Brightman and Bocelli have sold the most CDs they are somehow the greatest singers is like saying that Arnold Schwarzenegger is the best actor of all time because his movies made more money than anyone else! Have either of your vocal heroes ever succeeded at opera? Never. Why? Because they DO NOT HAVE LEGITIMATE CLASSICAL VOICES!! Just Google Bocelli's disastrous review with the Michigan Opera Company then tell me that I'm wrong.

  • LOVE IT.

  • Josh deserves better than Sarah. .. Sorry.

  • There are so FEW trained voices in entertainment now. Josh Groban has restored honor and talent to today's music!!

  • @trp3141592 some people think that these two are from another world.....i have no doubt in my mind that these two were sent by God.

  • @trp3141592 The dislikes are disillusioned idiots!

  • I wish they would record the phantom of the opera with Josh and Sarah!

  • Oh. My. God. That was amazing!!

  • Amazing!!

  • fucking stupid

  • happy holidays to you Mr 1984 Lee, as a rule I am not critical of an artist, and who am I to be judgemental, So from now on my lips are sealed. Ciao

  • Sarah sounds and looks fabulous..... What is everyone talking about????

  • Is she on medication or something?

  • Sarah is a goddess...

  • In response to Mr 1984Lee, I was having a very bad day, and I take what I said back, truly apologise for my comment, and answering you're question, " can I sing this song better" hmmmmmmm NO!!!!! i totally agree agree that she is a great singer, but this song really!!! she just didnt pull it off for me.

  • @ceileenchambers77 Hey that's cool, I understand : ) I think we all have singers we love, but sometimes the particular song he/she is singing just isn't your cup of tea.....I know : ) I guess I am biased (as a guy), because Sarah is just a beautiful woman with a truly gifted voice. I have seen her live here in Atlanta twice and omg, I've never heard a voice like hers! : ) Happy Holidays!

  • @Mr1984lee I love Sarah Brightman's voice as well. Have you listened to any performances by Sissel?

  • all your comments are absolute rubbish, voices like this and good looks ,you are just envious i just loved it. Thank you Sarah and Josh

  • She sounds like she was ill, if this was during her recooperation time from her nodicular surgery it might explain a lot. Because she was simply fantastic in 2009

  • Sarah's voice has really had a toll taken on it. It sounds much weaker than in years past.

  • As wonderful as I find her voice, I must admit that Sarah's face is awkward to look at.

  • was this in a lower key than usual....???? so Josh could sing in his range? Sarah's voice sounds weak trying to keep it way "low"

  • the only thing better than just listening to this, is to grin while reading the comments. lol!!! one of my favorite electives in college was music appreciation and it was taught by an internationally known floutist. we started with music's early beginnings and came through Duke Ellington Then in my major I learned to place livestock in order of quality and to give reasons for the placings while never being critical of any individual, only praiseing the merits and stregths of each. Show class!

  • I can't sit back and nik pick....I just simply enjoy it. They are great in their own right.

  • she suks singing this, she actually sounds like my nana

  • @ceileenchambers77 What an intelligent comment. I'm guessing you could sing it better???

  • Ugh....I'm torn. I LOVE the way Josh sings this...but the girl makes this painful >.<

  • Played this with my granduaghter who is studying voice. She sighed as she saw the couple in the audience clapping. Hope she finds herself singing like Sarah on stage. Her name is Sarah too. Thanks

  • @GuitarPlayerGeo This is from a musical, not an opera. For real opera, I recommend Mozart, Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, Wagner, and Puccini. I further recommend starting with Verdi's La Traviata, and then his Rigoletto.

  • @Jitpring Oh, sorry...'I thought opera was musical as well. :)

  • @GuitarPlayerGeo Well said! LOL!

  • @GuitarPlayerGeo Yes, operas are musical, but musicals aren't operas. As I just informed someone else here, operas are characterized by far greater musical complexity than musicals. Andrew Lloyed Webber himself would be the first to support this truth, which all genuine musicians know.

  • @Jitpring 'Real' opera? Like this is 'fake' opera? It might be a musical ya dummy, but it's style is most definetely opera! Guess you're one of those snobs who must be right even when you're wrong? Get a life pal!

  • @FSofty When I distinguished this from real opera, I didn't mean that this is a fake opera. I meant that this isn't an opera at all. This is a musical, not an opera. Andrew Lloyed Webber would be the first to support what I'm saying, as he's well aware that operas are far more musically complex than musicals. Musicals are so much more popular in this dumbed down age precisely because of their lower musical sophistication. If knowing these truths makes me a snob, so be it.

  • @FSofty In addition to what Jitpring said, the style of singing is different. Operas are performed without amplification and opera singers are trained to project the sound so that it is heard over orchestra and chorus in a 2000-4000 seat theater. Not only Webber will be the first to tell you Phantom is a musical, but both Sarah Brightman and Josh Groban have told many times they aren't opera singers. Personally I think operatic voices will sound strange in Phantom.

  • I want to make love to his voice!!!!!

  • I have seen the phantom twice at her majesty's theatre and this was a pale weak rendition of a beautiful moment!!! Jesus, they wanted to be anywhere but where the were!!!

  • Zero chemistry between them!!! ZERO!!!

  • Ugghhh....that was almost painful to watch. Kind of like being around spouses who are spatting. Totally agree with byzintek. Give Josh credit for trying. But find us another Christine, please,

  • i think sarah brightman was good as always nothings changed.

  • He great.... for Raoul.

  • i just died a little from the epic awesomeness. his voice is so powerful and hers goes good with his :P i love it <3

  • I think he should have sung with Emmy Rossum. It might have turned out better, and I actually appreciate Sarah Brightman. :X

  • @ElfenLied8389 I was actually looking for a performance with him and Emmy before I found this video! But sadly, I don't think they have sung together..

I think their voices will sound nice together. Just thinking about them singing this song gives me chills!

  • This video makes me want to vomit. Sarah Brightman has completely lost her charm. Josh Groban deserves a more competent partner for this song.

  • his voice wud be perfect for joesph and the technicolor dreamcoat. just saying....

  • Appreciate how you fans feel. Christinewas created for her by now former husband Andrew Lloyd Webber. She sang fantastically. But that doesn't mean she was the best that could be found then, or that she should continue covering her own signature piece at an older age following surgery. That's not mean, that's realistic, empathetic. The current wide vibrato is something all older singers need to be aware of, remedy, and manage in the works and gigs we choose to take on. Poor choice this time.

  • Love it

  • It was hard to find the replay button through my tears.

  • this performance was absolutely breathtaking

i dont know what all of you are on they did an amazing job with this song

  • 3:38 HAHAHAHHA!

  • It's too bad that older comments are pages away. This video is from after her vocal cord surgery. Most wouldn't choose to -- or be able to -- sing at this point. Check out some of her earlier videos to hear her fantastic, powerful voice.

  • @DCIDenver I agree with you. I had the privilege to see and hear Sarah Brightman sing this song in the original production of Phantom of the Opera when it was in Los Angeles....an experience I will always treasure! I still listen to the soundtrack and it still gives me chills.

  • @DCIDenver

I took your advice and visited a clip from Phantom of Sarah singing. I retract my former statement I made concerning Ms Brightman. The lady has a wonderful voice. I truly hope she makes a complete recovery.

  • She sings like my granny at church. Bad match for Groban.

  • I would like to shampoo Josh Groban's hair whilst he sings this song to me.

  • geez stop criticizing. close your eyes and listen to the beauty. thats all i ask of you.

  • yes indeed! wow the critics in this world. It amazes me there are so many critical people maybe we could change that. Wonderful music the orchestra the singers and the audience obviously enchanted. Get a life criticizers.

  • @marty6947 some of us criticizers have much experience with music, perhaps not "professionally" as brightman, but are aware of technique and underlying aspects of what makes a truly great singer. brightman missed the mark big time.

  • Lovely

  • I love both. In defense of Sarah, she had to sing this song every day and twice on Saturday and Sunday for MANY YEARS!!! Then she had to tour with it. Every performance she makes, she has to sing it. She probably hates it now. She has released several cd's since Phantom, each one different from the last and very cutting edge. She probably has to muster every ounce of strength to sing All I Ask Of You without throwing up. Don't forget it was over 20 years ago that she played Christine.

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This... is a shame. Poor Josh!!! She is an opera singer, he is not. Who chose for them to sing this together? It DOES NOT WORK. Please, please don't do this to Josh. I don't know who she is, but her performance wasn't very good. At all. Josh was looking at her the whole time while she played the audience. Sorry, but I love Josh's voice too much to let this slide.

But fantastic job by Josh ;) POTO is my favorite musical, he would've been good in it.

  • It seems like she's not even singing!! He is totally putting in so much effort while she it seems like she's YAWNING!!!!! I love Josh Groban and it kills me to see him waste such a beautiful song with her... His performance was flawless nonetheless

  • Josh needs to sing this with Emma from the movie. Sarah used to me magnificent, but I'm sad to say she has lost her touch and Emma was almost a better Christine. Josh would no doubt play a kick ass Raul. Or hell, even Erik for that matter. With his deeper voice it can have one hell of an impact.

  • @PubjunkMcKunkin Emmy was a MUCH better Christine! I'm also waiting for that DUET!!! :D

  • Everytime I hear Sarah Brightma's name I cant help but think of Repo! The Genetic Opera >_<

  • I wish my name was Christine...;)

  • If it were possible, I think the best combo of singers and actors for the love triangle of Phantom of the Opera might be as Michael Crawford as the Phantom (how the hell can you top off the original actor to play Christine's seducer for crying out loud), Josh Groban as Raoul (just to make it tough for even the fans to choose between these two men) then Emma Rossum from the movie as Christine. Just if it were possible though but I know it isn't.

  • Josh is great, as usual. Sarah's vibrato is wobbly.

  • @5brosn1chick Thoroughly enjoyed the concept of wobbly vibrato. I admire them both for their talent and their willingness to share it. :)

  • @ Youknowiloveyou.... Just stating the FACTS, Just like the fact that most of the population CAN"T handle the truth :-)

  • HMMM it amazing that all you can do is bitch about Sarah Brightman and how she sang this song... I don't see you in any Broadway Musicals...guess that's because you sound like SHIT :-)

  • @TheVegas6969 Does it make you any better to bitch about someone bitching?

  • Oh My Gosh! This Is why I don't like Sarah Brightman! Yes, She used to be reasonably good but Now she's Not! If I was singing this with Josh I would at least try to make it look natural between us and I'd control My voice! lol On the Other hand, Josh is Wonderful!!! I'll duet with him anyday! x

  • wonderful.....both of them....I play it almost daily...what a lift from today. Especially music today. Thanks Grandma for taking me to the Opera. And the couple in the audience well it don't get much happier than that Thanks

  • Far too much warbling from the lady, for me.

  • I was a 17 year old dresser at Her Majesty's when this show opened. I was in a break in the corridor and Sarah used to stop on her way to the stage and give me a lovely smile. She never said a word, but I would get that smile. Language is a poor approximation of the things we are really saying.

  • I'm a grobanite. But I like the "Sarah Brightman & Michael Ball"'s rendition best.

  • Didn't mean to sound THAT grouchy, but listen again and then go right over to a Groban-Dion duet of "The Prayer" and compare the contrasting stage personna. I think Ms. Brightman used to be a dancer and for me, the stylist movements and facial masks hinder rather than nurture intimacy with both her duet partner and the audience. Know what made Sinatra great? You thought he was singing just to you. Brightman sings as if she is auditioning to be one of the titans. INo fun for Josh being a prop.

  • She used to be so much better. Sad.

  • Shit, for being old, she's still hot.

  • Vibrato a bit much.

  • @Jazztomorrow Patrick did a good job in the movie with this!

  • wow!!!

  • Groban connects with his audience -- he has to because Ms. Brightman is having one of her private moments as Diva Barbie. When she has her eyes open, interactions with him (this IS a duet) are so choreographed as to be nearly "anime". Her pitch is saggy, sometimes flat, and she has lost control of her vibrato. I normally do not deign to criticize other singers, especially famous ones, but having sung All I Ask with sopranos who are WITH me and one who was just NEXT to me, I pity Josh.

  • @byzintek you just had bad day? I don't see that at all..

  • @byzintek Her uncontrollable vibrato ruins the WHOLE beauty of the duet.

  • @byzintek yeah its pretty gross her singing is.....

  • @byzintek Agreed! I read your comment and was skeptical, because I loved her in the cast recording, but then she starts singing, and God, Buddha, Allah, what is she doing?! Her face is almost comical and her 'embellishing trills' are ridiculous! Groban is wonderful, but he shouldn't have to put up with her theatrics. I also thought the harmony before the orchestral break/"kiss" was wonky, but that's just me.

  • @byzintek great observations. never been a big fan of brightman's and josh does deserve better. i can't figure out why brightman gets under my skin but she does.

  • @byzintek

Have to agree with you wholeheartedly on this one. Ms Brightman added absolutely nothing but only took away the enjoyment of this beautiful song.

  • @byzintek She is Christine, he is not the phantom, she may as well sing solo.

  • @byzintek That may be true with this rendition of the pair. But, when she sang with Andrea Botecceli ( I think I spelled that wrong), and they did Time To Say Goodbye, I thought she was with him all the way. Did you ever hear Andrea sing with Elmo Time To Say Goodnight? You should look it up, it is fabulous. Anne

  • @byzintek i agree 100% i have heard many people sing this song and in 1988 she was amazing at it but now emmy (POTO 2004 movie) has taken it over with a greater voice in every way

no offense to anyone who admires brightman

  • @EdwardThomas0607 Rossum is a complete fake and entirely sythesized throughout the entire sad-excuse for a movie. To call her voice greater, you are greatly mistaken. Real talent is Miss Brightman, or some of her betters such as Barbara Bonney who toured with the original Phantom Michael Crawford, and so many stage names it'd take an eon to type up. However I disagree entirely with calling Rossum a good voice. The same goes with Butler, the only real singer in the entire movie was Carlotta Opera

  • @byzintek Blame the music teacher who taught her to sing each song as if it were sex and to imagine having an orgasm each time.

  • Sorry...this is NOT working for me, mainly because of her. I don't care if she was the original Christine; I am NOT big on her voice at all.

  • He so would make a perfect Raoul!

  • She is starting so sound her age. Josh sounds great, but she is starting to lose her richness. Her voice was much better 20 years ago.

  • not to fond of how she sings.......

  • You don;t have to know music to love this.

  • @alitosbigears i believe you're referring to polygamists.

  • Wonderful stuff as ever from Sarah Brightman. She has the voice.

  • This is so beautiful!

  • wonderful

  • OMG this is bringing tears to my eyes................OMG OMG so beautiful

  • i would so ditch Phantom for Groban<333

  • Goosebumps...just....covered....in....goosebumps

  • Sarah Brightman ... totally awesome. Voice of an angel.

  • here here! too wonderful thanks

  • It's sad how jealous people can be towards amazing singers.

  • It's mind boggling, that in a time when people are able to be all they can be, whenever they dream it, with and without technology ... there are still sooo many people limited in their thinking / perception of the outer image of the body rather than the beauty and quality of the spirit ! Sarah is timeless and her performing a short time after surgery proves she and we are timeless ... the spirit lives on forever !!! A wonderfully touching performance by both- LOVE JOSH and LOVE SARAH !!!

  • There is another kind of vibrato-linked fault that can afflict the voices of operatic artists, especially aging ones—namely the slow, often irregular wobble produced when the singer's vibrato has loosened from the effects of forcing, over-parting, or the sheer wear and tear on the body caused by the stresses of a long stage career.

  • Both Sarah and Josh performed beautifully. If she is beyond her "prime" is absolute bs. ( Considering she had surgery shortly before, just shows how truly professional and dedicated she is. And did you notice how Josh kept his voice lower so she could perform to the best of her ability? Now, that's class.) Brave Sarah and Josh! Great and entertaining job.

  • What's ridiculous is if anyone criticizes her singing in this song, they need to realize that this song/this part was written for her.

  • I LOVE the both of them.

  • For those critical of Sarah here I say "huh?" If only I could sing on my best day the way she sings on her worst [which is NOT here], I'd be a happy, happy woman. If ppl can't hear the voice of two angels here, sad for them.

  • I SO wish I was there!

  • :)

  • i just want to steal Josh away... pfft, i wish he'd show up at my window right now, rofl.

  • I wish I could like Sarah's voice, it's very pretty, but she annoys me SO bad! I have no idea what it is but there's something unflattering about the way she sings.

  • sarah is absolutally brill..

  • I love this song. Too bad Sarah can't sing it the way she use to. I would love to hear this song with Josh and Sarah in "her" prime. Now that would have been magical. Check out her singing this song when she did it years ago. Just wow!! Thank goodness for youtube.

And she always did slope the notes, it is just more pronounced now.

  • JESUS ALWAYS FORGIVES. AMEN

  • Comment removed

  • Two of the best voices on earth!

  • Sarah's voice is now and always has been perfect. She is an amazing woman; talent and incredible beauty.

  • Sarah Brightman is always amazing. except in this performance she was pushing it too hard. not my favorite.

  • She can't nail her notes. Scoops into it. Past her prime.

  • Magnificent! Thank you.
