  • I have this same car and I'm about to replace the water pump since it just went out, cars got 93K on it so I'm just going to throw a new timing belt, tensioner & idler pulley. I was wondering if the engine has 2 idler pulleys or just 1.... I know they made them both ways.

  • i have a 1999 mercury mystique. and i was going to replace the timing belt before this happens. its at 99k and i need some tips. you jack up the engine and pull off the top motor mount correct? and there is no special pattern to pull off the top cover is there? on my truck i know there was a specific pattern to pull off the intake to not crack it. and behind the passenger side wheel you pull off the splash guard and get at the timing covers right?

  • @thomasplusamber yes pull off the passenger front wheel and motor mount

  • i just changed a timing belt on the same motor man its all fucking retarted

  • you have to loosen the cam bolts to re leave pressure they have no key ways on them

  • lol. thats normal with FWD POS.

  • Hey man, I know you said that if the timing belt breaks, there will be no valve damage. I have a 98 ford contour 2.0L that needs the timing belt replaced and the mechanic told me that he will have to charge me, if there are any internal components such as valves broken. Do you know if this is true because i thought is was a non interference DOHC.

  • no it will not hurt the valves 1998 or older only 2.0 the v6 will hut the valves 2.5

  • @s30zman No not true on Fords only. The timing has to be a timimg Chan than you all done and the junk yard would be happy. The mech fix other cars so they think every car is the same i got a 1999 2,0 ford countor and the timing went and my car works after changing it.

  • As a matter of a fact this is the first timing belt change action video I see on Facebook!

  • face book?

  • @s30zman

    lol

  • You should try a 2 litre 2003+ ford focus then.

All the timing gears are loose, you need to trust on putting a steel bar like you did, and a screw into the block on the crankshaft.

Then you can put the belt on with the wheels in any way you want, and tighten them up again and loosen the tensioner retainer and unlock the cam and crankshaft, then its just a 50/50 chance of everything being correct and that engine is a critically interfering engine.

  • cool do you know of any vids i am always up for learning
