People, stop write about Sindbad. This movie - I know it absolutely exactly - have original title "Sadko", and based on old Russian legend. So, he was named Sadko - but not Sindbad. And this city is Novgorod - but not Baghdad.

It's more than just a retranslation, unfortunately. It was a repackaging of Sadko to try to sell it to audiences who were unfamiliar with the original story. Sinbad was much more well-known so Roger Corman changed the facts and got rid of the singing. I imagine it's disappointing, but I'm sure you could find the original Russian version in this age of DVDs. I would rather see the Russian original myself, since I'm disappointed that it's not really a Sinbad tale.

Re-titling Sadko to market it to morons is one thing, but putting the director Alexander Ptusko's name as "Alfred Posco" (and changing a lot of other names too) should have landed the distributor in court. I see Jack Woods name there as associate producer, so I suspect he's responsible.

Ptushko's films, drawn from Russian history and folktales, are available on DVD in the US from Rusico (or via Amazon), complete with English subtitles. I like this one and "Ruslan and Ludmilla" the best.

Man, this is just too crazy. They keep on calling him Sinbad, but he's obviously a blond Russian guy in a vaguely Russian setting. They should have called it "The Magical Voyage of Alexander Nevsky."

This reminds me of how they'd rewrite a lot of Italian Maciste movies in the sixties so they're about the more famous name of "Hercules."

For my non-Russian friends, this movie is actually about Sadko, a popular Russian fairytale. Sadko was turned into a great opera by Rimsky-Korsakoff.

LOL It's the Russian movie 'Sadko'. Sadko the Merchant goes from Novgorod (in the North of Russia) to India, so that's why he first meets with vikings.

The same trick was made with the Soviet space fiction 'The Tempest Planet'.
