What would you suggest instead of cutting public sector pensions?
Public sector pensions in the UK are still (post cuts) significantly higher most private sector jobs, you call Clarkson a 'douchebag' but offer no credible alternative...
This has been taken completely out of context, Im fan of TYT, but im afraid you have got this one wrong. If you watch the whole clip, he firstly said the strikes had been "fantastic" etc... However, in Britain, the BBC has to be impartial (unlike america), and so he said that he had to be impartial and then said in the same satirical way about shooting the. Sorry TYT, you have got this one wrong.
Its so retarded that everyone missed the point of his comment, Clarkson belives in the strikes.. The joke was this is the bbc, so in balance.. then he made that 'outrageous' comment to make the balance joke. FFS idiots -- I don't balme you guys who only watched this as they took the whole thing out of context
THIS IS TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT!!!!!!!!! At first, Clarkson said, "I love the strikes. There is no traffic and I could easily go to a restaurant with my wife. But no. This is the BBC. We have to keep it impartial - I think they should be shit..." e.t.c. It wasn;t his opinion on the strikes; he was mocking the BBC's policy on impartiality.
And there were people who complained to the BBC 2 WEEKS after the broadcast.
You retards, stop your 'Americans not getting British humor' nonsense. Clarkson got a lot of flack here in the UK too. Weren't you watching the news, you fucking hypocrites?
I like how you've deliberately left out his comments which lead to the shooting comment. His full comment was "I actually agree with this. We have to balance it, though, because this is the BCC. Frankly, I'd have them all shot".
For those who do not know, the BBC has a policy in place which prevents any broadcasts or publications displaying political bias.
I must say, you've done a Fox news here. Very classy (by that I mean classless), theyoungturks. No political bias being displayed here.
OMG IT'S ONE JOKE. Don't shit yourself, bloody hell. If you don't like British humor then ignore it ffs. I hate how Americans almost seem to dictate what's a joke and what's not.
wow you Americans are retards.. learn to respect British humour, we don't get to choose to listen to your humour because its shoved down our throats on TV. but as soon as one man makes a joke which to some is offensive people call him a "douche bag" the man was joking... stop getting so butt hurt over nothing.
the young turks.. pfft... really get over yourselves he shouldn't apologise, people get butt hurt, deal with it.
This was taken way out of context..... he said it was alright because it reminded him about the 70s but he said because the bbc has to be neutral he also gave this "side" of the conflict
those american hosts just don't get it and they're the douchebags
I don't know how much more that I could hate that man. It doesn't matter if it was a joke, if he had said the same thing about an ethnic minority instead of millions of workers fighting for their rights, he would never work again. I know loads of people who went on strike, does he really think that they would lose a day's pay over nothing? And this isn't the first time he has got into trouble over something like this, the BBC should just get rid of this monstrosity of a man.
Clarkson's hilarious. I'm fully aware of his lack of sympathy and often times common sense. (Any one who's watched Top Gear would know) And that's just him, like Ana put it;"He's a douchebag". I wouldn't love Top Gear nearly as much as I do, if Jeremy was any other way.
Problem is that these comments were made on a show on basic tv right after school hours on thats usually just fluff. Not so much his view or what he says although id say in europe because of various wars we are more sensetive to this type of joke.
He was obviously being sarcastic, even when he said that he has to work for a living. He most likely said it because everyone that's making a lot money, thinks it's the end of the world and acts like they want to "execute" people. I understand how people might have been offended by this, but they most likely thought he was being serious or they can't take a joke directed sarcastically at them. After all he's a comedian and most of the funny ones are known to be extreme with their jokes.
Context is everything, you cut the bit before he said that which makes it obvious he was being ironic. A common stereotype the British have of Americans is that they don't understand irony.
Irony - A figure of speech in which the intended meaning is the opposite of that expressed by the words used;
this was taken out of context because before he said that i would have them all shot he said the protests are great since all the roads in london were open with no traffic but then he said we have to balance this since this is the bbc and then he said i would have them all shot
@BritishBlueSigma..I have seen it all and the comment about it being easier to drive around London hardly changes anything about his comment. It is seen in the context of him being a private school educated, millionaire buddy of David Cameron.
So, did everyone just watch a different video than I watched? Cenk talks about context and while the joke probably wasn't Ana's taste they both agree that there wasn't really anything wrong with what Clarkson said. No one implied anything about him being an idiot, just that's known for off-color humor.
@MsPhox Because they talked about context while completely cutting out the first part of his comment that proves he was definitely not serious. Had they shown the earlier segment, it would have strengthened their position.
Context does matter. So why have you missed out the entire segment BEFORE where Clarkson praised the protesters, and then said 'Oh, but this is the BBC so we have to be unbiased', and then made the joke about the workers being shot?
Cenk, how on earth you are comparing demanding executions of people who are legally striking to suggestions of poor people getting a job to increase their income?
Secondly, are you saying that Clarkson gets an immunity for saying the most horrible things just because he's a known idiot? Knowing Clarkson's opinions on other matters, what he said was not a pure joke. He really is against the public sector.
guys at tyt Jeremy Clarkson is awesome and he makes jokes and people in britain go haha that was funny but in america where you are you somehow find away to make everything so serious i love you cenk but this time you were dead wrong
Cenk, you should do a story on this video. College Humor has nailed the attitude of the wealthy with this one ~_~ (youtube address+)watch?v=hrGdEwV-efs
The irony is that Clarkson is himself a HUGELY priveleged public sector worker with a gilt edged pension that is guaranteed while the rest of the country WORKS for a living while he drives and talks about fancy cars for a living - "working" as he does for the BBC. His comments could not be more hypocritical even if he tried his damnedest to make them so. People shouldn't be under any illusions - Jeremy Clarkson is a prick, who is easily replaceable with someone a lot funnier on Top Gear.
Most people won't know that Jeremy Clarkson is also one of the major movers behind the charity Help For Heroes, which is a charity aimed at helping present and ex members of the armed forces, once you get past the crusty outer shell Clarkson projects you'll find a good guy at heart.
since when has the Young Turks turned into Fox news?
they only showed half the interviwe..was it mayhap to run a "story" which really had no legs to begine with? or are they now working for the likes of Fox news?
if this lot had shown the WHOLE interviwe, you might have learned that Clarkson had endorsed the public sector workers strike but before sprouting off with his "they should all be taken out and shot" said clearly he had to show BBC was even handed..
@bababooeymagooey well no, I do, as a matter of fact, I live in the UK, and I'm a bit of a lefty and don't agree with Clarkson 99.9% of the time, including this instance, but you need to take in to consideration that is Jeremy Clarkson, and he is likely to say offensive things. Cba with another hyped up Brand & Ross hysteria again. If you don't like it, don't watch it!
Ana, if you know and like the show, why would you complain about it?
You know what Clarkson is like.
Second, nobody has their livelihoods at risk except the public sector which is good. Our public sector makes up well over half of employment. Tony B.Liar, Gormless Brown & the rest of Lie-bore grew the public sector twice as fast as they shrank the private sector hen e the reason Britain has so much debt.
The only other people with livelihoods at risk are the ignorant. Also good.
@andstrel11 why shame on TYT??? They've acknowledged that it wasn't serious and don't think he should face any consequences! Did you stop the video after 3 seconds or something?
i am one of the strikers,i wasnt offended in the least
it was a joke made at the expense of the bbc having to be balanced ,just like the way cenk has a go at cnbc ,the shoot them quote was taken out of context ,because it took the main focus of the reason for the strike, why talk about that ,when they can manufacture some false drama to report on
The clip has been taken out of context. In the previous section he was defending the very same people. It was a joke, maybe in poor taste but a joke, all the same.
Pity that TYT didn't get the entire clip here. The entire joke is much funnier, and much longer - roughly it goes that He likes the strikes because there is no traffic, but as he's from the BBC and always has to be balanced, he thinks they should be shot infront of their families.
It's a good joke, a funny joke, and frankly those who are complaining simply have no sense of humour.
@Domzdream This got 31,000 complaints and the guy who laughed at a dead child on channel 5 got several hundred... we need to sort our priorities out...
That is completely out of context, If you see the whole clip he supports it and says it is great because no one is at work, then he says that because he is on the BBC, he has to support both sides or neither, so then he goes against it. It was obviously a joke because the BBC aren't allowed to promote one thing and not the other.
Yeah, you could tell he was being sarcastic and showing the exaggerated style of those opposed to the strikers. He's a bit of a snob in some sense, and he IS a douchebag despite some people here saying otherwise, but I'd just give this the "oh Jeremy" disapproving look and move on. It certainly doesn't warrant international attention. Most Brits know that outside of a discussion about cars, Clarkson isn't worth listening to.
I thought this was a TopGear channel upload until I saw it was TYT... LOL. I agree with shumble32 though on this one.... it was out of context. There a lot of other "bad" Clarkson comments you could have pulled.
Adam Carolla is racist and uneducated; only idoits care about his opinions. Jeremy Clarkson, Adam Carolla and Anthony Cummia are just three racist greedy Italian millionaire who refuse to pay a penny for tax.
@oarih94 No. He pretends to be a comedian. But he's nothing more than another right-winger. He doesn't believe global warming is human-caused, he loves cars and loves to bash public transit although the ones in the UK are great. Last but not least he loves to bash non-British car companies. The bias is obvious. He's the perfect douchebag.
@TrickyEmu Public transport in the UK *is* crap. He's entitled to believe global warming isn't a big problem if he so wishes, and he doesn't bash non-British cars - you're talking out of your arse. They constantly rave about Ferraris, the Veyron, and so on. Have you ever watched the show?
I wasn't aware that being right-wing prevents him from being a comedian, either.
21,000 complants? must be from Morris Marina owners....
but sadly the young turks did NOT show the whole interviwe..
Clarkson said before he made this statement "in the traditions of the BBC's even handed policy i have to say" and then said the "they should all be taken out and shot!"
Oh, and you misreported that the pensions reforms had anything to do with austerity measures. They do not. They are the result of the Hutton Report into the sustainability of public sector pensions, which are currently being subsidised by the private sector through higher general taxation.
Nothing to do with austerity, good reporting there. There's a reason I stopped watching this show.
Clarkson's whole persona is based on exaggeration; that's where he gets his comic effect. It's a joke. You don't have to find it funny, you don't have to like it. You just need to stop whining at every little thing you don't personally appreciate.
@PotatoHandle I disagree. It's not about hardening up, it's about smartening up. We don't need to just be insensitive and accepting of all the cruel shit in the world... but we DO need to care more about the things that are genuinely evil and corrupted, instead of some satirical comment by a hilarious comedian. We have the right reaction, we're just reacting to the wrong things.
If TYT watched the full clip and did their job right they would of seen that he said that he thought they were doing a great job standing up for their careers. And then he said ohhh but we can't be biased on the BBC and he made that joke.
Thumbs up so people know the reality of this and don't follow this half reported BS
jeremy clarkson is an incredibly sarcastic and funny man. but he's also very intelligent and was most definitely joking and should not apologize if he doesn't want to.
wonder if this show called for an apology from Sandra Bernhard when she said Sarah Palin should be gang raped? and second of all anyone who takes this moron host seriously is an idiot. He has the most slanted views. What do you mean it depends on which side he is on if that joke is ok or not. Don't worry though soon the Gov't will tell you what jokes are ok and when it is ok to laugh at them.
There was a bit he talked about before that so it's a little out of context. Second, he's a public sector worker as teh BBC is paid for by the public.
@Fifty1stState That doesn't actually make him a public sector worker, any more than being an external contractor does - and there's a shedload of firms like that providing public services.
He's also employed to write for a number of newspapers, which are not public sector. I think it's a bit of a stretch to say he's one.
@Marcus21999 I grant he's not a typical PSW but he works for a 'public corporation' which is funded by public license and he is employed by the BBC who have a specific mission which they expect all employees to contribute too. He's benefiting from the publics direct funding, more than the odd contractor who pops in and out. He's a public employee in the spirit of the meaning, just as someone on a private corporation network is a vampire sucking the life blood out of the people :o)
While I find Clarkson's remark over the line, I forgive him a lot more then when we had a US Assistant Attorney General say we do the same thing to peaceful protesters...
(Indiana's with regards to the protesters against Walker earlier this year.)
if you want an apology from Clarkson, get in line. Clarkson has got a history of cracking jokes without boundaries. He's a comedian, lighten up, get back in your morris marina, and go home.
@BigusGeekus Would you like some cheese with that whine?
He wasn't serious; it was exaggeration for effect. The audience clearly had a sense of humour. You do not. Wind the neck back in, and go back to your rock, where no one confuses your overactive sensibilities by saying words - get this - that aren't meant to be taken literally!
I really hope you're not around if anyone says, "the wife is gonna kill me!". You'd be on the phone to the police, wasting their time, you humourless cunt.
@Marcus21999 I doubt that. This guy is known for being a right-wing douche. And if I should go "back to my rock", then you should crawl back under your fucking bridge. The bit about "the wife is gonna kill me"? Known humor. The bit about murdering protesters in front of their families? Known atrocity, actively promoted by other right wingers. Don't expect me to take it as a joke when its usually deadly serious.
when a liberal makes a joke about killing there boss everyone laughs when a conservative makes a joke about killing employees everyone is up and arms.
Its a fucking joke...not a very good one...but its jeremy fucking clatkson...people in the UK shoukd expect to finf dthat he has that sense of humour, people from other countries that do not get the humour, well i guess you dont get sarcasm.
Jeremy Clarkson will face no consequences. And he shouldn't. He made a joke, thats his job, and if you listen carefully, people laughed. Where was the outrage then? The hosts didn't laugh because they knew they'd get in trouble. Otherwise it was genuinely funny.
The BBC shouldn't sack him. They should send him to Colombia to make a documentary on the Colombian trade-unionists who were taken and executed in front of their families.
Maybe then he'd appreciate why "jokes" like that shouldn't be made
Didn't TYT listen to the whole of Clarkson's reply?
First he said that the strike was fantastic as all the roads in London were clear - and then said that, because being the BBC there had to be balance - they should be shot etc.
Taken out of context, Clarkson not a 'douche bag'
TYT make a bad call on this one (rare, but it does happen)
@TrickyEmu - he's a comedian, and if you take a comedian seriously then that's your problem not his. And please protect us from a world where only 'responsible comedians' are allowed.
But I guess we all draw the line somewhere - recently a favourite comedian of mine did a video where he simulated sex with his cat. I didn't find it funny and he's gone down a peg in my estimation. But I wasn't offended
Why don't people understand that a pension IS something you worked for? If you've got one, it was something that you negotiated for and was granted as part of your working agreement, same as your wage. Taking it away or reducing it constitutes your employer not holding up their end of the contract, and stealing from you.
@avatarmn Not when 1) circumstances have changed, ie. that people are living considerably longer, and 2) when the state is involved. The last government introduced a tax on pensions that wasn't there before, and basically screwed the private sector. The public sector doesn't want to make sacrifices - tough, because the private sector can't afford to subsidise it.
They did not work for this part of the pension. The argument is about the subsidy on top, which they did not work for at all.
@mi777ke777 JC is a douchebag period. Anyone who supports a douchebag is just as much a douchebag. He wasn't joking and it was clear from the interview he wasn't joking. And even if he was, it still makes him a douchebag. He deserves to get black listed into oblivion along with every other douchebag out there including Gingrich.
Yeah, sad and pathetic that douchebag Conservatards fap off to poor children cleaning toilets for the rich children, or the blow their loads off when they agree that society should allow a person to die.
Top Gear isBest show on TV. Including TYT. I dont even like car shows but I enjoy Top Gear. Yes Clarkson is an ass, hes is! He always has been, but hes my kind of ass. This is NOT news worthy. You discredit yourself by posting this.
He was just joking and I agree to let him go. However, I couldnt agree with him more on the issue. As a Private Sector worker, I do not get anywhere near the same privledges as those in the public sector. Are the bankers to blame for Britain's imminent austerity measures? Of course they are, and yes.. we need regulations to prevent this from happening again, but if Britain are to lift themselves out of deficit, then I'm afraid the public sector are just going to havw to take one for the team. U
If you watch the full interview clip he says because its the bbc we have to balance it then he says his "they have to be all shot" clearly a joke. people are way over-reacting to his comment.

Also good.

i am one of the strikers,i wasnt offended in the least
it was a joke made at the expense of the bbc having to be balanced ,just like the way cenk has a go at cnbc ,the shoot them quote was taken out of context ,because it took the main focus of the reason for the strike, why talk about that ,when they can manufacture some false drama to report on

The clip has been taken out of context. In the previous section he was defending the very same people. It was a joke, maybe in poor taste but a joke, all the same.
versanil 2 months ago
Pity that TYT didn't get the entire clip here. The entire joke is much funnier, and much longer - roughly it goes that He likes the strikes because there is no traffic, but as he's from the BBC and always has to be balanced, he thinks they should be shot infront of their families.
It's a good joke, a funny joke, and frankly those who are complaining simply have no sense of humour.
TiedLaces 2 months ago
Yea. I agree with Cenk. I'm in the UK, London.
People here flinch and get butthurt over the smallest things. It's like people here LOOK for drama and keep a lookout for something to moan about.
It's even become a bit of a joke among the British- 'we tend to moan about everything'.
So true.
To quote Chopper impersonator- Britain, Harden the fuck up!

Clarkson is a clown and should be reminded of that. Don't fire him, just give him his red nose and laugh.
daguzify 2 months ago
That is completely out of context, If you see the whole clip he supports it and says it is great because no one is at work, then he says that because he is on the BBC, he has to support both sides or neither, so then he goes against it. It was obviously a joke because the BBC aren't allowed to promote one thing and not the other.
Anyway, Jeremy is hilarious Trololol
SuperLamarrio64DS 2 months ago

You can't believe half of the things Clarkson says -- he's a comedian for crying out loud.
oarih94 2 months ago
@oarih94 No. He pretends to be a comedian. But he's nothing more than another right-winger. He doesn't believe global warming is human-caused, he loves cars and loves to bash public transit although the ones in the UK are great. Last but not least he loves to bash non-British car companies. The bias is obvious. He's the perfect douchebag.
TrickyEmu 2 months ago
@TrickyEmu Public transport in the UK *is* crap. He's entitled to believe global warming isn't a big problem if he so wishes, and he doesn't bash non-British cars - you're talking out of your arse. They constantly rave about Ferraris, the Veyron, and so on. Have you ever watched the show?
I wasn't aware that being right-wing prevents him from being a comedian, either.

Marcus21999 2 months ago
Clarkson's whole persona is based on exaggeration; that's where he gets his comic effect. It's a joke. You don't have to find it funny, you don't have to like it. You just need to stop whining at every little thing you don't personally appreciate.
Marcus21999 2 months ago
@PotatoHandle I disagree. It's not about hardening up, it's about smartening up. We don't need to just be insensitive and accepting of all the cruel shit in the world... but we DO need to care more about the things that are genuinely evil and corrupted, instead of some satirical comment by a hilarious comedian. We have the right reaction, we're just reacting to the wrong things.

There was a bit he talked about before that so it's a little out of context. Second, he's a public sector worker as teh BBC is paid for by the public.
Fifty1stState 2 months ago
@Fifty1stState That doesn't actually make him a public sector worker, any more than being an external contractor does - and there's a shedload of firms like that providing public services.
He's also employed to write for a number of newspapers, which are not public sector. I think it's a bit of a stretch to say he's one.
Marcus21999 2 months ago
@Marcus21999 I grant he's not a typical PSW but he works for a 'public corporation' which is funded by public license and he is employed by the BBC who have a specific mission which they expect all employees to contribute too. He's benefiting from the publics direct funding, more than the odd contractor who pops in and out. He's a public employee in the spirit of the meaning, just as someone on a private corporation network is a vampire sucking the life blood out of the people :o)

Why don't people understand that a pension IS something you worked for? If you've got one, it was something that you negotiated for and was granted as part of your working agreement, same as your wage. Taking it away or reducing it constitutes your employer not holding up their end of the contract, and stealing from you.
avatarmn 2 months ago in playlist Stories about the UK
@avatarmn Not when 1) circumstances have changed, ie. that people are living considerably longer, and 2) when the state is involved. The last government introduced a tax on pensions that wasn't there before, and basically screwed the private sector. The public sector doesn't want to make sacrifices - tough, because the private sector can't afford to subsidise it.
They did not work for this part of the pension. The argument is about the subsidy on top, which they did not work for at all.
