18 years later, in 2010, Barbara Streisand actually awarded the best director award to a woman, achieving her hopes of "giving out awards without regards to gender". I can see how concerned she was about the Best Director award given to mostly men since the first awards in 1928.

sorry my bad. jane campion was nominated the year after this. tho she didn't win (Schindler is a great classic as well) the Piano is one of the best films ever made so kudos to her ! :)x
