I have the same exact knock off short throw shifter and I believe it is installed correctly as well, but I have one question. status of fc3s: cold engine, cold transmission/drive-train, engine is off and the car is in the garage...is it difficult for you to shift through all the gears? EX: shifting from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd...etc takes more effort than its oem shifter. I noticed that my current shifter (knock off short throw shifter) isn't as smooth as the stock shifter.
ummm just so everyone knows we already installed the shifter a looong time ago as u can see the video is like 9 months old..... but hey thanks anyways for the rude BS comments im glad you took the time
@NoobProjectCar first off your swearing at your own car original parts, second what did you expect from a unknown brandless part. and no point yelling at ebay.. yell at the guy who sold you the part and should have returned it... next time spend some money and dont be so cheap and then tell the world how cheap you are by posting a vid. if you wanted to help us all put up a video of how you fixed the problem.. and what does a NOOB like you need a short shifter for any ways!!!!!!!!!!!
@roctuning well hello, first off thanks for actually watching the video, second you should of read the info to know that this was for my cousin's rx7 third if u read past comments you would of probably seen that i said we installed it and it works fine, fourth yea i scream cuss and whatever, dont take it seriously its only a joke and if your offended then once again, if you read the info i already warned u about the language. also yes i buy cheap parts because im broke. but ill accept donations
dudes....u both r a bunch of idiots...that ebay shit will fit....u just have to know how to install it... i have the exact same shifter from ebay...and it works. U just don't know how to put it in..it took me a while to figure out but it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so don't throw it away.. shoot me an email and ill tell u how to do it...peace
8) just remove your old one and have a machine shop cut the top end off and re-thread it..best bang for buck....well peace and have fun ive talked to much lol..... Oh yeah "Rotary4Life"
7) as you may have noticed the ebay shifter is extended on the bottom where the oem is short, the more its extended the more stress it puts on the linkage box and the trans, so for anyone thinking of buying one i dont suggest it unless you plan on replacing transmissions out the wahzoo and ripping linkage boxes in half on the rear of the trans, there just head aches. If you want a short throw but with out all the dramatic pocket squezzing...
6) Install the new shifter and all the loose parts in backwards sequence meaning in the order you took them off and once all done then drive it like you stole it.... P.S. Im now on my 9th 2nd Gen and I can tell you from experience, just stick with the oem shifter and next time go to Mazda its about $48 and some change to replace the bushings and new top plate it takes about 3 to 4 days to come in but its well worth it in the long run
5) diffrent sizes s4's i believe are smaller. Now ive found the soft bushing works best on the bottom and the hard fabricated aluminum one on top in the housing. I know you said the fitment was tight on the shifter now with a flat head you should be able to pry that piece out, it may not be easy but itll give eventually lol or just do what i did and file it out with a pocket knife be sure to wear gloves . . . once this is all done add some 70-90w in the linkage box but not all the way to the top
4)it should in turn remove most of fluid out of the box so you can see in. As you look in you can see that the placement for the bottom of the shifter has a spring type coil thing going over it, you want to inspect it to make sure it is clear of old bushing parts or trash then take a two flat heads one to hold the box still and one to move the spring so you can get the bottom bushing in the box, note on s4(86-88) and s5 (89-91) the placement hole for the bottom of the shifter are....
3) hints the reason for the black puddle insde your linkage box for it has 90w gear oil in it mixed with mushed up bushing which sucks cause the damn 70-90 oil eats away at the bushing tearing them apart over time. bs if you ask me. Now locate a can/coke bottle or something that can be thrown away later and a vacuum line, put one end of the line the linkage box and the container or can on the floor, simply suck on the other end of the tube to cause flow and let gravity do the rest
the center console seats behing the shifter surround so it pretty much defeats no purpose. Now once inside remove the three ten mill located on the top shifter boot, then remove the shifter by pulling up as you have done. Next step would be to look for any bushings inside that might be good but normally thats a rarity unless someone has replaced them within the cars history,
1)k Bruh Bruh chill for a minute cause you got me laughin my ass off, now i'm not here to point fingers just giving info, hopefully you didn't throw the ebay shifter away for it does work. The process being to remove the top shifter cover as you have done, now the shifter boot plate is bolted down with four ten mills in each corner, remember all you have to do is carefully manoeuvre it out from the center console section and just for info in an FC you cannot remove the section around the shifter
first u gotta remove the bottom ball bushing then u remove the big ball bushiing the one thats in between the crak
in3.02 u see the metal plate under the big ball? yeah its in he wrong place.... that one goes on top to lock the shifter in side the tranny.. but the rest u had correct...
try it if u need a video 2 show u on my rx7 let me know n ill post it for u
yeah we pretty much tried different varieties that wasn't on camera and editing the video cut alot of things to. that thing wasnt sitting right at all. if you can post a video bro im right behind you
oh even that wouldn't work because the ball of the shifter was still to big to sit in the hole so we wouldn't even be able to bolt in the extra extended metal block that eBay has supplied us with.
