Joystiq gave it a 4.5/5, Metacritic's current Aggregate score is 76 out of a 100 with mostly positive reviews by critics.

My loyalty is with Battlefield, which is far from the typical "shoot things and blow them up reeeaaal good" fps games.

I find excessive amounts of explosions to be unnecessary.

Making it realistic would be either good or frustrating. You'll get forced to retreat and refuel in the middle of a dogfight, forced to return and rearm after 2 missiles and 6 XMA6, Using full afterburner to reach an air strike point, you'll run out of fuel before even reaching the area. If Ace Combat Zero was realistic, you will take approximately 1 hour or more to finish Mayhem. And you'll never finish Zero mission in time since you'll have to keep refueling and rearming..

@HAWX2F86 Uh, Ive played plenty of ace combat and flight sims, and I can tell you this. Ace Combat is no more of a simulation than say Call of Duty is. Those games are arcadey as all hell. Regenrating life and missiles, come on, this isn't a sim. If you want realism then play Falcon 4.0, Lock On, Arma, Flight SImulator. Those games are sims! They actually require you to read the manual before you play! Not to sound harsh or anything, just wanted to point that out.

@HAWX2F86 Many PC simulators are done by specialized people, many of them tested by pilots. Believe me when I tell you that HAWX and ACE Combat have nothing to do with FSX, ARMA 2, IL2, IL2 Cliffs of Dover, Silent Hunter, Rise of Flight, DCS A-10, DCS BlackShark, Falcon BMS, Falcon AF....

All of them have a gameplay component by in the end these are way more realistic and ACCURATE than HAWX or Ace Combat will ever or dream to be.

I played this at Gamesfest last week for 30 min; i like the helicopter addition but i really didn't feel the close combat style, i just think the old formula was fine. I would have been happy with the game without that need to "zoom" in; it just didn't feel as fun to fly in the jets as the old games did. But i don't know maybe it will grow on me
