Sorry that some people had such rude things to say. I haven't lived in Sarnia in 30 years but still visit at least once a year. There are some pretty wonderful things about Sarnia that some folks have already mentioned. The lake, the parks, fries under the bridge. Perhaps a new video shot in the summer is a good idea. Sarnia will always be my home town.
They should have included the chemical valley in this video. Its like a shadow of Sarnia made from oil refineries and chemical plants. It would look nice with that guitar riff at the start!?
mayor mike really is great though he should have something really good named after him he got us in movies like micheal moores sicko and bowling for columbine and he is very smart and he must be doing something right hes been mayor almost as long as i have been alive and im 23
In my opinion there isn't anything special about Sarnia. The only good part is the lake and Canatera park. The people are crass and the city lacks culture. we have torn down most of the architecturally interesting buildings and replaced them with crap. As well we chose to put the mall and hockey arena all the way out of town, causing neglect of our downtown district. we have a 30 million dollar group of 7 collection that nobody knows about, and are to cheap to build a real gallery for.
Crass and uncultured indeed, those are the very reasons i left that shit hole, and yes, canatera IS pretty awesome, living in the park was nice setting to grow up in. One thing you didn't mention though is that nasty chemical valley, any day with a northbound wind is lethal for 50% of the city's pop, (being geriatrics of course). Personally I think Sarnia is the herpes ridden crotch of the world.
Very happy to find this site. I was looking for something to send to friends etc. My only criticism is that it should have been taped in the summer. Everything looks dark and gloomy so I won't be referring anyone to view it. Sorry.
Very good video! I am a 'SarniaKid' born and bred, & there are no words to express how much I miss it! The sound of boats on the river, Canatara, skating on Lake Chipican, the rocky bottom beach!, the plants glinting in the distance from Centennial Park, fries under the bridge, etc. I was able to visit every month or so my Dad & Grandma's graves at Lakeview until RobertQ stopped their frequent London/Sarnia runs. Being a non-driver, the cuts completely stopped my much needed visits!
Now I am back in my own youtube account. My grandpa and grandma have lived in Sarnia for 30 years now. Before my grandpa retired, he was asked by other churches to please come to them but he would always purposely throw the interview so that the head one could not make him move because he and his family loved Sarnia so much.
My mom is a political scientist and she says we are very lucky to have such a caring and thoughful mayor, and that we ought to name something good after him.
A nice place? It is a TREMENDOUS, TERRIFIC, GREAT, OUTSTANDING, FABULOUS, UNIQUE, place to live. I never want to leave. After I graduate from high school in a few years, I will go to university, and when I graduate from university I am coming back to Sarnia. Life is the best here!
I have only been there once years ago in the early 90's but remember it as a very nice city. I'd come back anytime.

My mom has lived in Ottawa, London, Windsor, and some other places, and says Sarnia is the best place to live. I agree. :)
