  • Can we have Zebra in a similar GUI to DIVA one day? To me Diva feels like I'm moving knobs on a hardware synth it looks like it's really there. I need a new graphics card but after that I 'm getting Diva so exited about it. Nice one Urs.

  • @FunnyVideoCollector Yep, next year we'll redesign Zebra. I hope.

  • That does it! I'm getting this beast next week!

  • Das mit der Aufnahme von Stimme und Synth üben wir aber noch mal...Empfehlung: Mixer mit Talkover. Kann Zebra als Sampler fungieren?

  • Great tutorial for for the most amazing synth in the world! thumbs up!.

  • You're not only a genius when it comes to making synths .. but also a great programmer of sounds! So many things i want to learn, but time and energy wont permit it.. Good thing there's synths like ace (and the upcoming Diva! hypehypehype)

  • Zebra and zebralette are veer powerful , I luv them and if your serious about custom sounds you should buy them

  • where u get it?

  • Awesome. This is probably the most authentic sounding VA soft synth ever made, and I've owned and tried dozens and dozens. Unlike so many other soft synths that use various tricks of doubling, chorusing, delay and reverb to fatten up the sound, this synth just sounds fantastic on it's own without any of that trickery or FX.

  • omg... vst synth with mini modular system and 4 osc 'ograsm' ..i have to test this

  • Oh I thought this was a stand along, no wonder I cant find it after installing the demo 3 times

  • The patching system on this synth is probably the best ever. You have that patch panel that shows the signal path without the spaghetti of traditional modular synths, plus a matrix section just in case you need that sort of thing.

  • "Vintage Modular Blubbery Thing" - gets me every time :)

  • Who's to say he doesn't have a job? I'm pretty sure it's not you.

  • You're right. My apologies to

    UberTroll13

  • UberTroll13, I hope you really are a troll, because if not you are fucking retarded, you realize the developer of Zebra2 posted this video..

  • crack is virid w32/backdoor.drluxe.??&

  • I LUV IT its the best

  • UrsHeckmann,

This tutorial effort really encourages me towards buying this.

    Thanks, Jim

  • wow man, you're a genius! I'm going to be getting my copy of this right away. i just watched a video on youtube on Computer Music's top 10 soft synths and this came number one. as a producer and a soft synth maniac collector i'm amazed i haven't heard of this until now, utterly flabbergasted.

    GENIUS!

  • There is a free copy, but it sometimes plays some wrong notes after a while...

  • No, it doesn't - It rather ensures that this thing keeps on being developed. One simply can't create such a thing over the course of 8 years without getting any money for it. And it's still priced less than half of what some other companies would take for it.

  • Ah, to be 16 and completely oblivious.

If you bothered to read anything about Zebra 2 (or even just this user account) you would have realized that Urs is the developer.

  • this is one of the best sounding if not THE best sounding software synth but it's so hard to program. Where can i change the filter env after adding an filter, where this where that...it's just hard to figure out basic stuff, which is self explainable on most other software synths.

However, Great Instrument, hopefully some tutorials will help.

  • If you right click on the rotary knob for the envelope assigned to the filter you can select a different filter (ie, filter 1, filter 2, filter 3, etc...). If it doesn't already exist it will create a new one.

  • Great Tutorial. THANKS!!!

  • I love Zebra, thanks for this tutorial!!

  • which daw do you prefer ?

  • Well, I started to make music on Logic so many years ago (it was actually called Supertrack on the C64 in the 1980ies, then Creator on Atari), hence I stick to it.

On the other hand side I mainly build musical plugins, I do not produce much music. So I can't really say which DAW I would favourite if I did a lot of production work.

  • wow, never knew logic went back to the 64. how did making music on an old machine like that in the 80s work?

  • I fell in love when I saw you put a phaser only on the reverb, hoooooly hell! (Anyone wondering: Somewhere after 09:00).

  • How do you open Zebra?! I can't find any executables or applications anywhere!

  • Zebra is a VST plug-in. You need a host software such as Cubase, Fruity Loops or Logic to run it.

  • Thank you for that. Any particular one you would recommend?

  • Well, a nice free one would be SaviHost by Herrmann Seib. I use that a lot on my PC. On a Mac you can use GarageBand.

  • How can you be such a nice person sir?

you made it and then you spend your time explaining to others how to use it.... EVEN THE fact that this is a VST not a standalone program.

At first you got me thinking that you do this because of Marketing reasons...but then again the numbers on this video are really small, so as The Creator there is no need to bother.

    I am surprised, good sir!

  • This is great! The zebra demo was mystifying to me but now it makes sense. Thanks!

  • I keep hearing awesome things about this synth but its looks exceptionally complex to programme, when most producers want to just plug and play without taking a weeks holiday off to programme a new vst.

  • Check out the demo version - you'll see that most patches work with 2-4 modules. The thing about Zebra is, it gives you the freedom to choose these modules. You can combine additive synthesis, subtractive synthesis, wavetable, FM and physical modeling with only 2 or 3 modules.

It may seem complex, but actually most times it's as simple as any synth.

  • What Urs says, Zebra sounds pretty quickly good. The thing is once you have this 'pretty quickly good', you can take it a lot of steps further.

Also it seems very, very stable and CPU-friendly!

  • very nice Urs! I appreciate the fact that the guy who makes this synth takes the time to make sure people learn it properly

  • i have no idea what you are doing at all

  • neither do i

  • Try to read the manual, it helped me great in the learning of synthesis

  • Hi Urs,

good video for Zebra interested and starters. And as a long time Zebra user I definitely can recommend this virtual synth. Also the new Arksun sound bank is very cool..ok, i'm off to the Zebra OscPart1 vid ;)

  • 5!!!!!¤¤¤¤¤

  • good tutorial, thanks!

  • great! thank you!

  • Thanks mate, good tutorial for an amazing synth!

  • Thanks for taking the time to do this. It's very much appreciated by the audio community. I recently started using Zebra, and I must say it's pretty confusing coming from a Reason and Logic softsynth background! Thanks again!

  • Tiptop Urs. Mehr mehr mehr :)

  • Nice one Urs. Keep them coming
