Here's the real story.....at the end of the school year in '69, Mr. John L. Hurt was in class with the jr. high band.....I was there. He was sitting behind his director's music stand. He had an epileptic seizure and fell to the floor. He was gone awhile then returned for summer band. The school did purchase the Masonic Lodge by the school. On the first day of school the next year, he died in his driveway. It was sad but there is no haunting I'm sorry to tell you. I WAS THERE.
@knobswilson Thank you for sharing all of you all 5kboonie,Sweetmusic5354 and yourself. It is an honor and a privilege to hear the actual true story it truly is sad our band teacher passed away as well He was a really decent man . Thank you all again for the truth Ole Jeff
The post by 5kboonie is the true story about Mr. John L. Hurt. He was one of my favorite directors when I wa sin Owasso high School. Cannot attest to the haunted part of this story, but I CAN tell you he did not die in the bandroom! I was standing outside the white band building across the street when we saw the ambulance pull up to his home (which was not far from the school). He died from a seizure. That building was named in honor of him...The John L. Hurt Memorial Band Building.
the band building is back behind the school where the busses come out you go behind there and the bnd room is right there there is a sign that says band room.
i went to that school last year i dont know anything about a haunted band room but i forgot some homework and i went to my locker i got my homework i shut my locker i heard it click then when i turned to leave i walked down the hall theres some stairs u have to walk down and when i turned to walk down the stairs MY LOCKER WAS OPEN i was so freaking scared
I went to that school last year!!!! I was there for a band performance and i had to go to the band room to get my instrument. as i went in there i heard a noise and music started playing out of no where. i screamed and ran out the door!!! IT SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME!!! IM NEVER GOING THERE AGAIN:)
"Thundercrest" March was one of the toe tapping songs Mr. Hurt taught and directed us at the time of his death. Do a You Tube google to take a listen to one of the bands play.
The band room was on the east end of this building. I was in band class the day Director John L. Hurt passed out while going over music with one of our sections. He passed away apparently from another epileptic seizure or heart attack a week later while leaving his apartment for work. Owasso schools bought the Masonic Lodge building located directly across the street on the east side from the what was then the high school bldg and named the building the 'John L Hurt Memorial Band Building'.
The story is that you can walk up to the old band room and hear the last march he conducted. The building is an annex building now, and you can see the building 0:23
I have been to school dances there at night and haven't heard anything but I do know they have built a new band room in a seperate building and they don't use the old one...Maybe that's why
