Witches today follow a new interpretation of an ancient path. They worship the old ones--the wise ones--and they walk in the way of beauty. They honor the earth and respect the whole of the web of life. Plus, they're a hell of a lot more fun to hang out with than Calvinists or Jehovah's Witnesses. )O(
Yes, Hekate as understood by Wiccans is *close* to Hekate as understood in Ptolemaic Alexandria, except that "maiden-mother-crone" comes from Robert Graves, having no ancient equivalent ... and they don't pronounce Her name correctly: the Erasmian reconstruction of ancient Greek has been disproven for decades. The final e is like e in festival or French fête.
@drock272 I'm pretty sure that in greek mythology she is described to have three faces, and does not imply that all of her aspects are in in the form of Maiden Mother Crone. According to Hesiod's theogeny she is depicted as a virgin goddess. She has three forms but nothing that i have read so far claims her forms to be maiden mother and crone. However her forms associated with animals such as the dog, cow, and serpent.
@Mrklarns5266 Hecate is the goddess of wisdom and the goddess of darkness. She is, in the wiccan religion the third aspect of the triple Goddess. She is the wise healer. In Greek Paganism, she is the torch bairer, and in both forms she guards the crossroads. And Athena is the Goddess of War and Wisdom, dont forget that.
moving breath holds a special place in my heart, they were the first pagan musicians i ever heard of and they all have such lovely voices and know how to energize a song no matter how simple or full it is
i have a question. do "you" sing chants like this when you are summoning a God/Goddess to a circle? if not can some1 please explain to me when these chants would be used? thank you.
actually many people do sing these chants. Singing is a wonderful way to raise energy in a circle and if doing it with more then one person it is a great way to harmonize and unify those energies with one another. But they dont have to be used in practice i mean not every christian sings Christian rock when their in church. It sounds nice and it speaks to us. Final word everyone's tradition is different some might sing some might not its what they do if they can put it in great for them :)
@babyboigottaloveme Invocations can take the form of song or chants. Chants and music can also be given as offerings to the gods, can raise energy for magic, and can be performed during a ceremony or at the end of a ritual in celebration.
@babyboigottaloveme these chants are used to raise energy whilst in a Circle, and just to sing in everyday life, like you hum or sing Leona Lewis, JLS and Lily Allen
the names pronounced alot of different ways some say Hec-uh-tay others say hec-tay or hec-i-tay, i personaly say Hec-uh-tay but thats just me. and i think ether spelling is acceptable.
Merry Yule to all....All the videos ive been watching tonight, and not one person said it. So I thought I would. :).... I will use this time to draw close to family, and reflect on the past year, and what I can do to help me in the coming year.
@lencullen So how is Nyx to work with? I know nothing of Her except from someone who felt Her call but couldn't deal with it, so I don't think that's a fair portrayal, perhaps.
@lencullen I don't mean to be to forward but do you think you could message me sometime i would love to learn more about Nyx but haven't been able to find much if you could recommend a book or something that would be great Blessed Be )O(
"*holy* maiden huntress", not "honored maiden huntress"
and
"*ancient* queen of wisdom", not "honored queen of wisdom".
Now there's another reason for talking to the person who wrote a song before you decide to record it: you might be able to find out the correct lyrics. (And, of course, there's that whole disrespecting the composer, not to mention breaking the law thingy...)
In the Credit Where Due department, the band Moving Breath released their album "She Changes" as a cassette in 1991 and as CD in 1997. On the cassette they call this song "Honored Maiden Huntress", but change the title to "Triple Goddess" for the CD.
The actual title is "Silver Shining Wheel".
I know because I wrote it. Wish they had asked my permission before they recorded it. Tsk, tsk.
I never get tiered of hearing this song.:)

Their Goddess can take three forms: The Virgin, The Mother and The Old One
So when they say "New Moon come to us" ther refer to the virgin.

@drock272 actually im pretty sure in Greek mythology Hekate is a virgin goddess....so it doesn't make sense for her to appear as a Crone aspect.

@jerafro Actually she has 3 aspects each of a differnt age it is actually shown in many dipictions of Her. All I Know is that She rocks.

If Artemis is the Maiden, and Hecate is the Croan, who is the Mother? For some reason I thought it was Inanna.

In Chinese, Yin and Yang means Adam and Eve. Yin and Yang is a symbol of The God and Goddess (male and female)

I hear the name pronounced Hek-a-tate but spelled Hecate or Hekate. Why is this? Which one is correct.
TendancyToFloatAway 2 years ago
It's a very old European name spelled Hecate. It's spelled oddly due to age.
