  • Life is funny- when I was a jazz kid in the 60s I thought Hawaiian music was old men stuff- Now, that I'm an old Jazz Beatnik, I'd trade all those hot Bird licks for this blood- pressure- lowering bliss. Something very primal in this like the music of India... goes way deep into the psyche. Jerry is the living end. (rip) Band members are straight from Heaven....

  • What a treat! I've been a fan of Jerry's for years! I love it!

  • I would doubt that Tjoh would have agreed with you.

  • Hm...better listen to George de Fretes. This is rubbish!

  • Jerry Byrd's steel playing is (to me) the voice of Hawaiian music.

  • He is a heck of a steel-guitar player... Back in '53, when Pedal Steel really began coming into country ( & those like Drake began switching over), Jerry put his slant - bar technique to work even harder, and was able to somewhat imitate the pedal steel bends. Of course, there's nothing wrong with the Pedal Steel, but he thought it was more skillful to be able to get those sounds w/0 a Pedal system. He's still considered one of the best on the planet. That
