The challenger looked like he wanted to kick Morimoto's ass when he called him for the challenge. Then at 7:37 Morimoto had a look on his face like "Ah SHIT!! I got to go against this psycho!!?? Fuck!"

He only appears if the challenger requests. There were also some episodes where they mentioned Kobe after he had already been selected, but he hadn't undergone the minimum training to qualify as a proper chef despite his prodigal skills, and he had to spend a few seasons of Iron Chef in training until he came along later and could be requested by the challengers.

He only appears, alone, in his battles. He is never seen being "summoned" with the other three Iron Chefs except in the later specials.
