  • If you listen to the base tune, it's the same as Master of the House from Les Miserables.

  • Damn Disney, they made us (arab) look ridiculous

  • Comment removed

  • It WILL NOT break! It-it broke.....

  • 8 ppl are the prime examples of the fools that fell and fell HARD on the dunes. Which is why in a dazed state they hit the dislike button

  • The Merchant is the Genie. Think about it: they both have 4 digits on their hands, same curly beard, they have the lamp, both are voiced by Robin Williams, and do very cartoony antics that (most) of the rest of the cast avoids, also note the Merchant's clothing looks like the Genie's skin and belt.

  • I think he means "Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face, it's barbaric, but hey it's home."

  • More often than not, are hotter than hot,

in a lot of good waaaaaaaaaaays!

    - Wait what?!

  • If this whole movie was being told in the past tense, being AFTER Aladdin's adventures, wouldn't that lamp be empty? I mean Alladdin freed Genie. So, actually, that weird, little guy is, in fact, trying to sell us an "ordianry lamp".

  • @NPC514 Ah, but Jafar is in the lamp.

  • @DrPuffbean No, when Jafar was turned into a genie he got his own lamp that was black. That was Genie's lamp he was holding.

  • he only has 4 fingers while everyone else has 5....

  • hmm..... I never noticed b4 that the guy actually said "SALAM"... Interesting..

  • Ohhh I love this guy, never gets old. Even if your 17 and trying to revise for exams.

  • 22, and still that intro makes me want to watch the film...some things never change! :P

  • xD i should play this while im playing assassins creed

  • Combination, Hookah and coffee maker lol lol lol

  • this is the famous dead sea tupperware, listen! "rasberry" ahh still good

  • the sad part about strereotypes, their based on something real. that merchant reminds me of the merchants i met on Turkish Bazaars. I remember one who sold carpets, his dead mother had made it, he could only sell it for double the normal price. I bargained it down to what i thought to be a fair price. that evening i met some guy whith exactly the same carpet who bought it for half the price. Actually quite amusing those bazaars, and you curse at the moment but now i laugh about it.

  • 0:20

LOL that's a completely different singer.

  • you could point out how the original version had "where they cut off your ears if they don't like your face"

  • This is the famous dead sea Tupperware....Listen! *Raspberry* Ahhh still good.

    XDD OH LOL

  • I'm 19 and this guy still craks me up.

  • I just realized he tries to sell you a hookah at 1:40 lol

  • @usrules84 yeah, it can't get any darker owo

  • Lick a shield Lick a sword!

Lick anything you can't afford! :D

  • Arabian Nights!! Like Arabian Days!! More often than not, but It's better when hot so you can see Gays!!

Arabian Nights!! when appears Arabian goons! when your caught off guard, you might get raped and then youll explode with Boooom!

  • I CUM from an island from a nearby place, where usually camels don't rome. where my mother tells me that my shoes smell like rats but Hey it's what life shows. When the sun & the wind just show up, I simply go blind! Come on down and do belive that you see a town to another Arabian Nights!!

  • First lyrics of song:

  • german is better maybe because it sounds more like arabic then english XD

  • great great song!!! i adore it!!!

  • i love it

  • german version is MUCH better !!

  • haha they took out the original version of this song

  • how is it a lamp? it's blatantly a golden teapot.

  • Comment removed

  • I liked the original version better: Oh I come from a land, from a faraway place Where the caravan camels roam Where they cut off your ear If they don't like your face It's barbaric, but hey, it's home

  • @Snurremegrundt FTW? dude hahahaha!

  • It's in mono...

  • the german version is much better

  • cannot break...it broke

  • Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii love that song!!!!

  • The sound sucks

  • @usrules84 xD naw..they thought if they said dark once we would be like, "where's the sun???"

  • Pity it isn't the original version. . .

  • I think that watching this as a child made me more aware of other cultures and their way of life. Underneath the complexities within a society are individuals with their own story. Now that I am older, part of my major involves middle eastern studies.

  • Why did Disney edit the lyrics?! Did a bunch of fundamentalists threaten jihad unless the words were changed or something, because if so that's going overboard (oh wait EVERYTHING Islamic fundamentalists do is "going overboard" by sane standards)

  • "It will not break!" *taps device on desk* "It will not.........It broke."

  • How is this stereotyping exactly? Its a fictional story in a fictional world full of thieves and magic. Get over your PC bullshit and learn to enjoy things for what they are: CHILDRENS MOVIES

  • It's racist. But hey, it's Disney :D

  • They changed the lyric.

  • Dude. Really? It's a movie. Get over your need to make something out of nothing.

  • Dude. It's a movie. Get over yourself.

  • the real second line is supposed to be "where they cut off your ears if they don't like your face"

  • @mskenef95

When did the change occur? For a new release?

  • I love the tune of this even though i myself am partiall arabic as where my grandma came form the old country itself

  • watch?v=mZADONbXfro&feature=re%C2%ADlated%EF%BB%BF

  • Is there anywhere on Youtube that has the original "cut off your ear" lyrics?! I don't like the new ones!

  • @RPtheTruth, you can watch the original on YT here...

    watch?v=hPUAhSGZtvU&feature=related

  • Ugh those aren't the real lyrics (this is the DVD version isn't it?) cause remember hearing where they cut of your ear if they don't like your face, it's barbaric but hey, it's home.

  • @XxAngiexXRPI, yeah, those were the original lyrics, but Disney is a company...

    ...

Where they censor the song when angry Muslims say it's wrong, it's barbaric, but hey, it's home. :)

  • @Dauntless07 LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL epicness!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • It may be stereotyping, but it's damned funny.

  • I just relized, thats robin williams speaking.

  • This scene is a lot funnier if you've ever been in a Middle Eastern market

  • Stereotypical and Westerner are synonyms.

  • does anybody know where I can find the "policticaly incrorect" version

  • you can tell where they edited it from 0:20 to 0:24

  • Combination hookah and coffee maker also makes chili and fries!

  • This izn't the original version. In the original he says "where they cut off you ear, if they don't like your face" instead of "where it's flat and immense and the heat is intense".

  • ah this was the great thing about Aladdin. It's a great kiddy disney film; love, comedy, EVIL and triumph

But enough adult jokes to keep us amused :)

  • @Molatok unlike current Disney Films these days.

  • i dunno. i actually came back from egypt and even though i went to some strange places there always seemed to be someone selling something. like even at the very top of sinai.

have you ever been there? cause it may be harder to say what is and is not a sterotype if youve never been there.

thats not to say at all that this film doesnt have sterotypes

  • hehe we're dancing to a longer version of this song in my pointe class, and when we first heard the original line "where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face" we all laughed hysterically....I mean violence in a dance?! Oh well, this song sounded alot better with the original line in there, but I still love it!

  • @usrules84

    lmao

  • I like this guy :)

  • the line "where its flat and immense and the heat is intense" used to be "where they cut off your ears if they dont like your face, its barbaric but hey its home"

  • and the new line was very badly inserted, i must say.

    :-P

  • A bit racist, stereotypical and glamorized, but still a better source than say, FOX news.

  • @PresidentOfJelybeans ur not being serious?

  • @PresidentOfJelybeans "a good source" now that I'm older i can appreciate this movie????? this movie is full of racist stereotypes the middle east for the most part is nothing like this. this is highly racist.

  • @dp9eagle13 Hum, I think you're missing the fact that the story isn't supposed to take place in modern-day Middle East, but in the ancient and fabled (embellished) Arabia. There wasn't this strong climate of "OMG the Arabs are evil" back when the movie was made, so you don't have to see parody and criticism in everything. Of course Disney used stereotypes, otherwise how do you want children to see the difference in era and cultures when they've barely heard about them (if at all)?

  • @PresidentOfJelybeans erm im not sure if it is considered a good source to pull information from because it is a media movie to raise money. you might be interested in the intro or maybe the entire article written by Laura Fokkena who mentions some of the issues of the movie Aladdin and how it has been changed since 1,001 Nights. I can't seem to send the link but it is titled "Are you a terrorist, or do you play one on tv?"

  • @PresidentOfJelybeans I pray to god you're kidding. XD

  • XD i love when he says 'this is no ordinary lamp!"

  • the only thing i like about disney is this song. thats pretty much it.

  • I agree that the line "Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face" is actually pretty racist (saying that people from the Middle East are violent,) but the edited line sounds really kruddy, just listen to it

  • Arabiaaan Niiiiiiiights

    like Arabian Daaaayyyyyyysss

  • A fool off his guard

    Could fall and fall hard

    Out there on the dunes

    Epic much? ♥

  • who knew that a disney could evoke such conflict?

  • It's just a fairytale. Everything is possible there.

    Aladdin has a flying carpet!

  • 1:50 - 2:00

that was no stereotype; it is true, 450%

Arab merchants really are like that; they will invent stories, just to sell you garbage.

  • 9) ... the lyrics read, "Arabian nights, like Arabian days, more often than not are hotter than hot"... Arabian days are often extremely hot. The comparison between night and day was probably intended as a form of symbolism, and not strictly an expression of temperature.

    4) The expression and motion of the camel is crafted in an unrealistic fashion like a typical Disney animal. Its hardly a stereotype. Its a style of drawing.

  • @pillsburydoughboy47

    «Hotter than hot»

If you knew the books of 1001 nights, you would know those lyrics symbolise SEX.

  • 8) (continued); people with large apetites, did not live long enough to pass on their genes in the near east, hence the reason why most Arabs do not grow too large, or any semite for that matter. Semitic bodies are decidedly "food efficient;" most of us do not have large apetites. A smaller body eats less food, consequently, that is why a lot of Arabs are short, however not all.

  • I don't understand the points you are making in 8), 7) and your second 8), are you saying that in general the characters portrayed in the urban streets of this film were roughly similar to what one would have actually seen (with some rarities like the fire display) at the time period in which Aladdin is set? If so, is that not an accurate portrayal of past civilian appearance (in general) as opposed to a stereotype?

I think 5), 6) and 3) are overly specific criticisms as regards stereotyping.

  • 7) the dude breathing fire? According to Islamic hadith law, that counts as a "shameful public display," which in a Sharia run Caliphate, would have been strictly prohibited. Fakirs and street performers were an Indian pehonomenon, but under Islamic rule, such displays were forbidden.

    8) Not all Arabs are so diminiutive; King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia is 6'3 for example. Admitedly, the Arabian peninsula has never been a major food producing area, so people that ate a lot, simply died.

  • 4) Camels don't just plop down from exhaustion; when a camel is tired, it just says "screw you, I'm resting" and it stops moving, and NOTHING, can make a camel wishing to relax, start moving again, people need to wait. A real camel would not plop down like that.

    5) that looks more like the Sahara, than a desert from the Arabian peninsula and yes, there IS a difference.

    6) The headache that Arab would get from wearing a turban in the middle of the desert, would likely fry his brain.

  • Because I'm bored out of my skull, I'll list the stereotypes anyway;

    1) Not all of the middle east is desert, first of all, northern Iraq, Lebanon, much of Syria, and in fact western Saudi Arabia are all quite green.

    2) That whole "red smoke" thing at the begining points to eroticism, when most of the middle east is extremely conservative about such issues.

    3) Arab merchants did not ride camels that were also carrying their merchandise, they either walked, or rode another one.

  • @pillsburydoughboy47

THIS STORY IS FROM THE 1001 NIGHTS and this Story IS About Eroticism all way trhough !!!

  • 1001 nights has two versions;

the uncensored Persian original, and then the Censored Muslim one; the one originally translated by that British guy was the Muslims Censored one, only in recent years I think, was the west able to acquire the pornographic version.

  • @pillsburydoughboy47 dude, it 's jsust a movie :p damn all you're doing is just boring the hell out of everyone, go find a better hobby

  • This video is 2 years old; why do you still have it up if its a school project?

  • 1:41.... is that a bong?

  • Best opening... EVER.

  • where can i download this song

  • he said arabian nights like arabian days ? how is that ? its completely the oposite , its burning intence hot in day and freezing with beautiful moon at night ? i didnt like this part but everything else is cool

  • i doubt hes talking about the weather. maybe talking about killings going on in the dark, people robbing at night, brothels i dunno.

  • how is he?

  • they are saying that they are the same in there savagery and danger.

  • The uncensored version was way better.

  • why do some call this racist i dont get it

  • I love this scene. did you know that this wasnt scripted. robin williams was given a table full of odds and ends an he came up wit it all on his own wen de wer recordin

  • This makes me want to watch the movies again xD

  • Do you know that this music is taken from another music , specially the first part? If anybody knows the original music or from where they get the first part of this music?

  • Your so right I hate that sterotype were salemen are all smooth and comical most of the time they are just simple mellow people who don't break the fourth wall.

  • I hate it to, but I think it was just to be silly. I mean, how else would you get the target audience (little kids) to sit and watch.

  • Thanks for posting the whole intro, I`ve been looking for it.

  • it make me want to sing with it it very good

  • old school disney movies FTW!!! takes me back in time, love lovelove it ^_^

  • im doing this play and im a narrator in it and i get to sing this!

  • And it turned out your the Genie

  • This song freaked me friend's little sister out and she started crying! It was HILARIOUS!

  • I love this song

  • that's interesting, the german version of this song does not have that kind of content...

  • were they cut of your ear if they dont like your face.

  • So, this is what Sut Jhally calls 'Orientalism'.... Well, Disney's productions are full of sterotypes anyway. Still, I love to watch them! my guilty pleasure...

  • really everything is a stereotype in shows...not just racially .... like the characters are so cliche sometimes its stereotypical

  • well, a lot of times the reasons disney characters seem sterotypical is b/c disney did it first, and everyone copied off disney, so now its a cliche. not all the time, but sometimes

  • i like

    1001 arabian nights wayyy better!

  • so wait who supposedly wrote the real song disney or someone from the middle east?

  • someone from disney did

  • Gah, I've had dreams about this shit. That's how much this bloody idea has affected me!

And THEN I had to go and read all those books about the Sultans, the Moroccan slave trade and 1001 others...it won't leave me alone!

Meh, the song is still legendary. And about sex. But that was obvious even then, right?

  • wat do you mean bout "And about sex"?

  • I think that's a reference to the line:

    "More often than not

    are hotter than hot

in a lot of good ways!"

  • if u see the Alladin tv series..when they say that part Jasmine dances ..so ya im pretty sure ur right

  • Aw, crap, I was getting into it, and then it ended.

Completely forgot this was a youtube video, this movie able to immerse people so well (like a lot of the older Disney Films, you know, before they made sequels that are not needed or suck).

  • Disney's movies NEED an charming main character or the movie.

Doesn't matter if it's an stereotype or not. As long as it's a great movie it shouldn't matter that much.

But if we go back several hundreds of years you'll see that THAT land and many others where quite violent.

  • and the fact that in disnet films, they get an AMERICAN actor to voice the HERO (aladdin)

and BRITISH actors for the villains (jafar)

  • where the actors came from doesnt matter, its the actors themselves thats in mind, plus jafar is supposed to be the type of character who works in the royal palace so of course he is going to be proper and well spoken (like an englishmen) and the british look down on the americans (kinda like how jafar did to aladdin) so...its not like they always pick brits to be the bad guys...

  • yh

i wrote that comment then watched hercules, where hades sounds like, las-vegasy?

  • Pft, it bugs me the way people try to pick appart movies and cartoons instead of sitting down with thier friends, kids, siblings etc and simply enjoying it for what it is, a damn good movie. Most kids won't pay much attention to the finer aspects of the dialogue in the songs, and it's not untill they are older and understand such things do they notice them anyway.

  • its a way of exposing them to these topics, the parent then does the explaning. They are going to learn it either way. Would you like to be the one to teach them, or would you trust a stranger to do it for you?

  • Man, we here in Brazil also have two versions for this songs. Miss the "Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face", such as ours "Vão cortar sua orelha pra mostrar pra você, como é barbaro o nosso lar". Oh, man... ):

  • god damn they didnt even try to make it match the original version. the guy singing sounds horrible when he says its flat and intense and the heat is imense. geeze disney, if your going to change a movie, at least dont make it so obvious

  • GO CARMEL COUGARS!!!!!

  • Lame "politically-correct" edited version...

  • Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face

what happened to the good old lyrics? D:

  • haha i felt like on an arabian market while watching this haha

  • Salaam :D:D:D:D

    soooo :D

  • PLEASE!!! If you listen to the big edited line, you can hear a MAJOR voice change! Why not just redo the whole song, so it doesn't sound cut and pasted?! I'll stick with the REAL version thank you...

  • AMEN! ^_^

  • That one is much better than the original controversial version, because of the line "Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face" was originally heard on the CD soundtrack, but they changed the lyrics because it was too violent. This was from the "Aladdin" DVD with different clean lyrics rather than violent lyrics and it was too racy for this song.

  • I have the CD soundtrack that I got at a yard sale a couple of years ago, but it does have the original version of "Arabian Nights" with stereotypical lyrics, but the words "Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face" was too violent. On the "Aladdin" DVD, they changed the words into "Where it's flat and immense and the heat is intense" instead of "Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face". It can be found on a reissue CD soundtrack.

  • Fantastic song! Thanks!

  • I love you for putting this up. I'm reading Arabian Nights with my ESL students right now. They love watching movie clips in class.

  • who sang the good version of "arabian nights"? ...there are 2 actors... I don't like this one, who's the other actor who sang this song?

  • i do not know this is the song from the movie, so i dont know im sorry but thanks for the comment. Have a good memorial day weekend everybody!

  • "...it broke." My favorite line! Made me lol.

    What a competent salesman xD

  • thanks for the comment im fav too, its really cheesy but it still makes me laugh at 16. haha have a good day guys!

  • why do you point out your age in many of your comments? There's no shame in liking a Disney movie or even a cartoon at an older age. I'm 20 and I watched this last week. I love this movie and anyone who still enjoys these classic Disney movies should be proud to say so. I'm sorry, it just sounds like you feel there's something wrong with still enjoying these films.

  • Ironically, you pointed out your age in your comment as well.

In other news, your comment is six months old. Why I reply it? Why not?

  • I think I was talking about how he feels it's embarrassing at 16 when I'm watching the same thing at 20, now 21 actually. That was all. I wasn't talking about stating the age as much as how young of an age he was stating.

  • omg, brings back early childhood memories... i have this on video and ive seen it about a MILLION times when i was little. thanks for uploading it!

  • thanks for the comment,to tell the truth when my teacher showed this too us, after school i went home and watched this movie...lame i know but really good movie! thanks again for the comment!

  • did u know that the merchant and the genie were originally planned to be the same person note the same facial hair and the fact that robin williams does both voices

  • i didn't know that was the original plan but i knew robin played both voices, i love him so much he's hilarious, if you love him i strongly suggest "Drunk Scottsman Invents Golf" It's so funny, even if you dont play golf its still really funny. And if you dont mind the f word, he uses it very frequently, haha, thanks for the comment

  • love this

  • me too love it, it one of my favorite movies!

  • aren't some of the words changed from the original?? in the other it says something like "where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face, it's barbaric but hey it's home"...

i dunno... in any case i love the bit afterwards with robin williams... "come closer! mmhf! too close! a little too close!"

  • yes thats true, my teacher told us they had to change it after it came out like that, but yeah those were the words, so they ha to change it, but yeah thatsa funny part

    thanks 4 commenting!

  • haha it will not break, it broke

    i love that line hahha

  • the whole class laughed at that even thou were in 9th grade, the face he made just made us laugh, when he should it to us, i hadnt seen that movie in such a long time! :} thanks for commenting!!! more comments the better
