  • Jonny is going absolutely nutz! on the telecaster here. its just a riff frenzy all the way through. damn! Grab a good pair of headphones. holy moly.

  • thom looks so unhappy

  • Amazing. I listen to this daily. :0)

  • ooh yeah this ones a goodie

  • Amazing.

  • who dislike are blind and deaf

  • Amazing

  • I love this song and I hope my children will enjoy listening to music such as this as well.

  • have they all got THE BENDS?

  • Ed O´Brien is the best 3rd guitarrist ever!

  • Give Jonny more freedom = pure win

  • past pablo honey and just a couple part of hail to the theif........every single song they got is utter brilliance.

  • God damn ! They sound bigger than anyhting I've ever heard live !

  • Ecstatic but so raw....wow!

  • 3 people envy jonny´s hair!

  • @gabrielguzman22

    I wish I had Jonny's hair (and Thom's voice),

but I certainly didn't dislike this performance.

  • where is this from?

  • where is this?

  • High Quality audio ???

  • Is it just me or do thom and jonny have different guitars in every single live youtube video of them?

Well, ed always has the same pretty much. but that rickenbacker is just so nice

  • @squiresuzuki, no way; johnnys always using that beat up telecaster. Its got magic powers...

  • Greenwood was going apeshit in this performance. well done lads.

  • demasiaadoooo!!!

  • Phenomenal guitar work. Wish I could play the guitar.

  • @thedmf12345 anyone can play guitar. get it?

  • F**kin` great!

  • What the hell kind of distortion does jonny use to make those sound like a broken squeeking tape? I want one!

  • @RToffler Probably a custom distortion that he programmed himself. They don't use presets ;)

And Jonny is a musical genius.

  • @ffm1138 What? he uses a Marshall Shredmaster, a standard out of the box version.

  • RToffler- It's not just the distortion, probably bridge pickup, high treble, gain, and a bunch of pick scratches and sting bends while pumping a whammy pedal. Also, if you like that stuff, check out 'arto lindsay simply are part 1' He pioneered a lot sounds like that.

  • @RToffler LOL. He's hitting the Humbuckers on the guitar and pulling the string really quick ;) At least that's what I think.

  • @RToffler

    Marshall Shredmaster

  • I can hear Jonny freaking out on my right speaker! Amazing!!

  • the fact that you guys are arguing on this great video about a subject which is completely irrelevant shows how little musical intellect both of you have.

    ps.

  • Fucking geniuses.

  • i prefer radiohead over all the shitty bands you guys are listing......

  • Nirvana reinvented the verse-chorus-verse song structure and made it sound emotionally powerful.

Of course bands like Radiohead and countless others would appreciate it and turn it around into their own. But Radiohead have consistently evolved and mutated into something so much more than that simplicity.

  • does anyone think that if kurt cobain was still alive today, he would make another hit song or two? It's 2009 now, practicly 2010, and i doubt that kurt would even be able to make another smells like teen spirit in the "new era". Even if Nirvana was still a band today, the "grunge era" is over, and Nirvana would be too.

  • There was some famous quote with Kurt Cobain dismissing Radiohead. But that was 1993 or something... I myself probably would have dismissed Radiohead before the Bends came out (though I was ten at the time).

  • nirvana ant shit

  • fuck u

  • "The Bends" is one of the most solid records I've ever heard. An absolute favorite.

  • My god where is this?

check out jools holland version with even better guitar riffs

  • What the hell are you guys talkin about? Simmons?

  • Thanks Bill Simmons!

  • Thanks Simmons, Jonny Greenwood is amazing, no one plays guitar quite that violently!!

  • True that, he even hurt his arm for playing so fiercly.

  • @bloodygeoff - Arto Lindsay and Marc Ribot do. (And they were doing it about a decade before.) Still love the way Jonny does it though.

  • Simmons! Great stuff, favorite band of all time.

  • Thanks simmons.

  • I am personally not a Radiohead fan, Simmons. But I admit that this is their best album.

  • Radiohead is my favorite band. Their music is a thousand times more intersting then rap and other bands. Every radiohead song is different, compared to bands like ACDC, Chiago, and Earth Wind and Fire , and the majority of rap, wich all sounds the same. At least Nirvana, the Beatles, and Pink Floyd ( wich I am also fans of) all changed music. Rap has done nothing.

  • Even both morning bells are different.

  • popdog5 you have no idea how wrong or ignorant you are. Hip-hop has done nothing....listen to Kid A (an album you may have heard of) Hip-hop had a major influence on that. And I'd rather listen to some good Hip-hop than some of the shittier realms of rock music.

  • Hip hop wasn't the largest, Remain In Light by Talking Heads was huge on Kid A, as was Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew" I just don't think it's very just to say that it was mostly hip hop influenced. Out of all of them Colin is probably the biggest on Hip hop, and Jonny to a lesser extent.

  • I didn't say it was mostly influenced by hip-hop but you can see the influence. A lot of it was very jazz influenced on that record too.

  • ignorance kills

  • i disagree with respect

seems like you are just one sided with rock and nothing on hip hop or rap

  • You're pretty ignorant, there.

  • Its so Nineties.

  • where are you now, when I need you!!!

  • dont argue of what is the biggest or who was the greatest. i say that both bands are different but they have something in common. their music is good to listen to right? they feed my ears..

  • This must have been an awesome concert to go to. They are always great live. But Johnny was really amped here. Especially on Iron lung.

  • i can say that the last band that affected my life like radiohead Was nirvana.

  • They shared some influences with Nirvana e.g. Pixies, Queen but Radioheads creativity surpasses nirvana's 100fold

  • Uhh what the fuck are you talking about man? What correlation do you see with Nirvana and Radiohead? Radiohead has been around for so long now and if they would've turned into a band like nirvana it would've happened already. Besides, Radiohead is way more talented then Nirvana anyway. They have evolved.

  • Comment removed

  • Boganator4 - WTF - You never listen RAdiohead Song!!!!!

  • What are you talking about?

Everyday I listen to a Radiohead song, usually "my iron lung."

  • Then you should know very well that they aren't "the next Nirvana"

    They're much better and different.

  • I'm saying that Radiohead are changein' the course of music, such as Nirvana in did in the 90's.

Tom York is original such as Kurt Cobain. That's why they are the biggest band these days.

  • ok.....i dont think like you, but anyway why agree that they are one of the biggest band this day....you shoul explain better you comment.....greetings

  • Well, if you listen to their music and acually listen to what he says you will notice his music has meaning unlike most of that owerpop shit. If you don't believe that radiohead arn't the biggest band in the world then you're crazy. Awile ago radiohead was voted the best band in the world so thats why I say it. Lots believe that Radiohead are the next Kurt Cobain, but you don't have to agree with me. I don't give a flying fuck.

  • I love Radiohead

but there is no way I would compare them with Kurt Cobain

    he was a loser

  • But you can't deny the fact that Kurt Cobain changed the course of music.

I love Nirvana, Kurt Cobain was Murdered.

  • Oh, god. Another distraught Nirvana fan. He committed suicide. A man that famous, ...they would've found a killer if there was one. Fact is, he was depressed, high, blah blah so suicide is the only way it could've happened.

Cobain didn't do anything but kill grunge. Grunge was going strong with the likes of Mudhoney and Soundgarden before Kurt came along.

Then again, I'm not a fan of Nirvana. They are boring to me.

  • Uhm. Why do you even have to bring in the person behind kurts music? You dont have a clue if thom yorke or greenwood are losers either, they dont speak about themselves a lot in interviews. Just listen to the music darn it!

  • Comment removed

  • You do realize that they've been famous since '92/'93. And their peak was in the late nineties with OK Computer...

  • What? "The next Kurt Cobain"? That's preposterous. They sound nothing like Nirvana and his vocals sound nothing like Cobain's.

Honestly, this is why I can't stand Nirvana fans. They bring up Kurt in every video that has music and say "THAT'S GOOD BUT NIRVANA WAS BETTER" or something to that extent.

Kurt's dead. Nirvana is no more, and grunge is dead BECAUSE of Nirvana. Get the fuck over it.

  • I'm not saying they sound like Nirvana. I'm saying they are one out of a million bands who were different compared to all bands. Just as Nirvana, they brought a different sound which people liked.

  • Listen to Pablo Honey. It was nothing special. At all. They got famous from a pretty generic sound. I like Pablo Honey, but it obviously pales in comparison to the later albums.

And Nirvana didn't bring a different sound. Grunge was a sound almost 10 years beforehand.

  • Creep was he song that got them known in music, but the Bends got them big. Thom Yorke has a very unique voice compared to most musicians these days in m opinion.

Anyways though. Grunge was not a sound in the 80's. Kurt was know for bringing Grunge into this world same with Eddie Vedder. But people Consider Kurt Cobain the founder of Grunge. Which in my opinion he was.

  • So we can all pretty much confirm you know nothing about grunge? That bands like Green River, Mudhoney, Soundgarden (which was the first grunge band to be signed to a major label, btw), Screaming Trees, etc..didn't exist and didn't sound grunge before the "almighty" Cobain?

Plus, Vedder didn't form Pearl Jam. Green River split into two bands in the mid 80's...Pearl Jam and Mudhoney. Eddie Vedder was picked up. He wasn't a founder.

And Thom Yorke has even said he copies Jeff Buckley, vocally.

  • Pearl jam formed when Mother love bone's singer (Andrew Wood) died from a Heroin overdose, the band formed a tribute band for Andrew with Chris Cornell as the leading vocals. After Temple of the dog broke up the remaining members (Guitarist, Drummer, Bassist) formed Pearl Jam with Vedder which got them known in the music business. Eddie was considered one of the "founders" I didn't say "founder" In my opinion from all what I have heard Kurt was the founder. But in a way no one will ever know.

  • Mother Love Bone was formed from half the members of Green River. You're running in circles. It's not the fact "no one will ever know" ..because everyone that bothers to listen to something outside of Kurts incessant, boring droning...they'd realize Grunge has been around since about '82. Look up Green River.

I mean, shit..Mark Arm coined the term "grunge" to describe his music back in 1981.

  • A wile back I searched Green River, but instead got in the middle of watch a video about the Green River killer in Seattle Washington. I believe Green River go their name from the Green River killer. it's just what I think. That was about 8 months ago. I have listened to Mud Honey, and I never was a fan of them, and the guy's dumb loud voice. But I heard Nirvana were friends with them during the beginning of their success. Anyways, I find this virtual argument, pointless.

  • Nirvana only make it mainstream.

  • Noooooooo. Soundgarden made it mainstream. They were the first to sign to a major label.

  • Dave Grohl(drummer-nirvana, lead-foofighters) calls Radiohead the greatest thing to come out of England since the Beatles, and that their creativity surpasses everyone's, even his own.

  • Radiohead are the greatest thing that came out of england sice the beatles. They are orginal that what makes them greater than so many other bands. Thom York was blessed with a gift of haveing his own voice.

  • WHOAAA!!!...i LOVE Dave Grohl..i had no idea he said that....now i LOVE him even more....if thats possible...lol....and hes rights....theres no question that RADIOHEAD are so good its frikken scary!

  • So has Dave Grohl not heard of Led Zeppelin?

Don't get me wrong, Radiohead are the best band post 70s.

  • i can't tell whether youre aware that Zeppelin is Grohl's favorite band

  • @TPmem I would love to see a quote. That's badass!

  • @TPmem True Dat

  • @TPmem Man David Grohl is my inspiration. so is Radiohead.

    I love this Comment. <3

  • @TPmem do you have a link showing him saying this?

  • @TPmem i know this is an old comment but, when/where did he say this? i fucking love that man aswell as i love radiohead

  • @TPmem would have to agree with Dave. Foo Fighters are one of the greatest grunge bands ever and still surviving in this highly coorperate music industry that it has become to be. So being so great im sure he knows what he is talking about. MUSIC SUCKS NOW DAYS!!! Radiohead Rocks!!!

  • they r sooo fucking good

  • fan fucking tastic

  • absolutly! radiohead is the best band ever!!

  • I havent seen them live but ill take your word for it.

  • Radiohead is great on CD, but OUTSTANDING live

  • man, johnny is going crazy here. great performance

But from what I hear, I guess Thom doesn't like singing this song.

  • bonnaroo?

  • no it was in new york 1997 i believe. An MTV special @ the ten spot

  • all radioheads albums are awsome, but i think the bends is my favorite

  • oldie but a goodie!!!
