There is only "purpose" within their realm of thought. From my perspective they are savages who worship false idols created by man. They do evil things such as eating people, self mutilation, and sacrifice animals and even people. If they are wrong and there is no God then their lives were meaningless and the "sacred" acts they commit were really just evil and pointless. Its all perspective, someone may find playing WoW a million times more enlightening than drinking pee from a human skull.

To be honest in India they are just regarded as Black Magicians into witchcraft. Skulls,blood ,worship at night , offering of wine etc are tantric rituals. they sometimes dress like other sadhus but are to be recognised by their work. Tho mostly wear bones, black color and shells. They are not Yaga and vedic practitioners but just spiritists. Sometimes they may do good but are mostly shunned by well meaning Hindus.its a sub culture of Tamas (darkness).

thats not true....many religions attempt to reach out to poverty stricken and miserable people.....god (i use that vaguely) is not the source of the problem. People are the source of their own misery. look at the aghori for example the guy eats shit and yet he still lives a somewhat happy life. I think you feel like you been hurt or abandoned by religion and therefore are so resentful. There is no reason why a person cannot make peace with their gods.

Different paths are appropriate for different people. When you have nothing to fear, only love is left; when you accept everything as an expression of Divine, you allow Divine to express more fully through you. As long as you perceive anything as separate from the Divine, you cut yourself from Divine. An Aghori practices being aware of Divinity in everything - he acknowledges God / Shiva in that which others find pleasing and in that which others may find disgusting. Om Namah Shivaya!
