Does anyone in 2011 really have enough peace (even if they have enough talent) to have the spirit to play something half as beautiful as the many beautiful pieces that this man played? (once upon a time, when there was more optimism & hope in this country). Thanks!
...if I could, I surely would. I'd rather be a hammer than a nail, yes I would... Wow, the things you learn about tunes that are changed around over time. Shades of "Edmund Fitzgerald" and such. Thanks, Daffydoug.
Chet always left you wanting more. It wasn't just what he played, but what he didn't play that made him great. He never added more than the song needed. Beautiful work!
Sagorevach has now been blocked. I put this channel here for people to enjoy Chet's music in peace. But there always has to be one ahole in every crowd to stir up a stink. Well Mr Sagorevach can now stir up his stink somewhere else,
It`s not spanish, indian, chinese... like dottyn said it`s andean folklore tunes, not indian (God I hate such ignorants), and I would add something, El condor pasa is quite well the oldest melody in the world because it was Maya`s traditional song in dances. So now you try to understand how old and how magnificent masterpiece is this song
@sagorevach no need to make yourself a fool by accusing others of ignorance. omnicience doesnt exist on this earth and daffy added a disclaimer. not only that, he was very gracious toward your unnecessary commentary. Sais much for him, very little for you. if you intend to fight thegreat fight against ignorance, best you find a means other than insult
Quechua is the language of the Andean people in Peru, as well as Ecuador. Spanish is their second language. I used to live in both countries at different times of course. The facts are correct that Danile Alomia Robles wrote this tune.
It's not a Spanish tune at all. It's an old Andean tune and is most popularly attributed to Peru although other nearby South American countries try to claim credit for it too.

Chet Atkins - played like a boss since 1950s

Chet is the greatest ever, there will never be another one like him. Unfortunately,
when Chet passed on, God broke the mold. He will truly be missed by all.

@tiger1vkulmala True! I have a picture of his mother, and she also has that appearance. Chet looks a LOT like his mom.

The melody has some interesting similarities to "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye" aka "The Ants Go Marching."

Chet recorded another version later; not nearly as nice as this one IMO.

I get so tired of it. (The attitudes, that is)

@sagorevach - odd that the Maya didn't live in the Andes, but in southern Mexico.
