While I was working on my report on Women's Suffrage in Britain I really thought that these strong women were heroines. I was so impressed by their courage and strength.

I think women have done bloody well to become equel with men. The agresive femanism that excists today is meerly a backlash of thousands of years of surpression. I do so wish women would put the brakes on it all now. A vast majority of men do value, love and respect women.

A female friend of mine said she wouldnt vote in the next election. So i quoted this song. "Well done, the sister suffragettes!!".....she voted conserative.

My great-great aunt was rrested three times. Once for attatching a banner reading ' votes for women' to the mayor of Salisbury's house, once for chaining herself to the railings at Parliment and for not filling out the census as, in herwords 'if we do not count we shall not be counted'

Any woman (or minority) who neglects their right to vote should be ashamed. That right was not won easily.

It is forgotten that many men did not have the vote either. Some facts:-

Reform Act 1832:- Resulted in 15% of males having the vote.

Representation of the People Act 1884:- Increased suffrage but still 40% of males still could not vote.

Representation of the People Act 1918:- Universal suffrage for males over 21 females over 30.

Representation of the People Act 1928 - Universal suffrage all over 21.

In photos the policemen arresting the suffragettes did not have the vote either.

It took the 1918 Representation of the Peoples Act for all men to get the vote in the UK. You had to be a property owner to vote before this. This means that most of the guys in WW1 trenches didn't have a vote. Btw Suffragettes suspended their activities during that war to give out white feathers to males as well as printing pro war literature.

My husband and I have to rely off two incomes to sustain our being. As a qualifed professional, I have worked hard academically and practically for both of us to have a lifestyle we love. If I sill belong "in the kitchen", as you say then we as a couple would cease to have food and our gorgeous home. Women need to work, to live, to be stimulated intellectually and socially and to thrive as people and not as the subbordinates of so called "male superiors". EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL!

Marie Curie discovered Radium and won a Nobel prize and writers such as the Bronte sisters and Jane Austen have shaken the world! Within my family all the women from my mother downwards have a degee. I have a MASTERS degree and my sister- in- law has a PHD!
