A woman who has postpartum depression is not likely to develop postpartum psychosis, they are two separate disorders, not disorders on a spectrum of mild ---> severe.
It is important to note that Andrea Yates had postpartum psychosis, not postpartum depression. Women with postpartum depression do not usually kill their children. They sometimes harm/kill themselves, but harming a child is indicative of psychosis, not depression. Please help to dispel the myth that postpartum depression is the same thing!
This was beautifully put together and I pray that you received an A for all of your hard work. It pointed out that women need help after giving birth. We may not want to ask or say that we do but it is a hard job being a full time mother. A job that little credit is given.
PPP requires anit-psychotic medication which, although Andrea was seeing a psychiatrist, she was not prescribed. The doctor should be held accountable for his neglect in this and every case where there is a death due to his neglect.
ppd should never be used as a defense in court. Just imagine if every depressed person who commits murder got off with a couple weeks in a minimum security mental ward and then released.
Yeah, well, obviously if one knows they may have some sort of mental issue, they should seek help as soon as possible. Only an intelligent person would do this.
Whether it's a mental disorder or not, I STILL feel no sympathy toward mothers who kill or harm their children on purpose.
thanks for this video it helped me after i had my baby son jan 1 I became verry sad and alone because I was 23 when i had him and the father of the baby did not stay in the picture. Not only did that happen but I gave my son to an adoptive family so this video helped me
@friends222 I'm sorry you gave your son up for adoption. I am an adoption survivor and I am sorry to tell you but your son will be suffering with trauma due to being separated from you. He needs to regain contact with you asap.
Postpartum Depression and Anxiety is much much more frequent than Psychosis. 1 in 10 women have Postpartum Depression!
Psychosis is very rare as you mentioned.
But all what you wrote is right for Depression as well, so great video. Just wanted to mention this as it might be a bit confusing. Women might think: Wait a minute, I don't hear voices, so I might not have Postpartum... Depression can be very severe too.
this video is so amazing, so relaxing.. i had a p.p.p. there is still siptoms , bur every time i watch this video make me feel so good holding my son in my arms..
If doctors did their job they would do a hormone test for new mothers, and prescribe hormones rather than antidepressants which are extremely hazardous. Low dose of progesterone and estrogen is what is needed. It is a proven fact that our hormone levels drop drastically after birth. It is also proven that if these hormones are off it will cause depression, moodiness, etc. True Postpartum Psychosis is extremely rare. Don't be a victim of Big Pharma.
unfortunately, yes their are some bad side effects to antidepressants, but it is a physiological chemical imbalance in the brain which causes the changes in mentation. Hormones are also known to be harmful and can in fact cause cancer even at low doses, and unfortunately they don't change the chemical imbalance
They don't usually up and decide that they're going to hurt their children. I realize that this may be hard for you to understand, as it is for most of us. The reason that these women, and sometimes men, hurt their children is due to a chemical imbalance in the brain. They aren't thinking properly.
Its not BULLSHIT you ass. I had ppd and I didn't want to kill my kids! Thats a whole different thing that is called postpartum psychosis. So shut the fuck up. You have no idea what you are talking about.
wow,I have no idea what to say! this is my senior year in collage and I had to make this year work and it's about prepartum depression, postpartum depression, postpartum psychosis and postpartum manic. this movie is wonderful and it
made my heart stop for a second! beautiful really good! there is more than just being a mother! help everybody who needs to be helped! their lives just started!
This video was such a great eye opener!!! I am going to use this for a class presentation in OB for nursing school!!! I totally loved this video...I had PPD and it lingered over me for a while due to my baby also being stillborn!!! It is a serious issue!
Yeah, 1%. Postpartum Psychosis is very very rare but the chance of getting it increases if you have bipolar disorder but really any type of mentall illness but espcially BPD. RIP Noah, John, Paul, Luke and Mary, and all the kids who died as a result of PPP.
Yes, but also all the moms who were the victims of this PPP/PPD. It's horrible, but it is absolutely curable. Don't be ashamed, speak out and get help. Hugs from one who survived this...
Andrea Yates was just a heartless cold blooded killer!!!

I dont understand why people try to understand something that is completely insane/illogical from a sane/logical standpoint. It will never work.
