I am very impressed--terrific phrasing, great lines--and bebop on guitar is HARD! I'd like to think that you're working steady and making good money, cause I've paid to see guitarists who couldn't come close to what you've done here. Post some more!
Could you tell me is this solo improvised or was it worked out before hand? I've been trying to do this sort of thing for years. Sadly a lack of talent is holding me back :)
Bravo sir, beautiful playing, this is the style I love, whether it sounds dated to some ears or not. People still like Mozart and his music is from 1757!!!!
The good news is that it sounds like 1957, but the bad news is also that it sounds like 1957. Find some Pat Martino, Joe Diorio, Pat Metheny, Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale, Scott Henderson etc.
watch out for Modes9 he's a member of the much feared Jazz Police. Everybody run, it's a raid, it's the fuzz, flush your be-bop stash, burn your 335's and be seen with a solid body or else face certain arrest!
thats because you only hear 1 song.. or at least 1 cd.. he has 51 cds in leader form check them out... then come back talking shit about the top of the list players in the world
@Modes9 A fair remark, even if put rather ... ineloquently and disrespectfully. Frankly, if you're going to drop names like those, you'd better upload some of your own demonstrations to back it up. Better yet - video reply with a performance of theirs and explain why THEY do it so much better. : )
Really solid. There's definitely a great eight note flow (feel), which is arguably the MOST important thing any jazz musician can possess. As George Garzone put it, "Your time feel determines 85 to 90 percent of your career." You've obviously paid some dues...well done.
Great sound and playing. What have you practiced in the past and what are you still practicing? I'm sure a ton of stuff...but what gave you your bebop language?
Hey man, that was great. I've just started to learn to play over the changes of this song. I was wondering-- where did you get that play-along track you're using?
hey man tim told me about this video. you sound great man really tasty stuff. you should do a live version of this song with some of the cats from the con and record it.
Positives: Nice sound, nice feel, great sense of direction
Negatives: Everything sounded like something from another era. Check out: Larry Young, Joe Henderson, Joe Farrell, Woody Shaw, Freddie Hubbard, Michael Brecker, Dave Liebman, Ritchie Beirach etc. If you don't own the Nicolas Slonimsky Thesaurus of Scales and Melodic Patterns, you may want to look for it.
brilliant!! I'm trying to play that piece, but somehow I'm missing something.. Have you got any tips? how about posting a instructional-video on bebop-guitar!? would be great!!
@smartwood11 Pick a standard and slowly arpeggiate ONLY chord tones for that entire piece. Do this in as many ways as you can, all over the neck .. Cover your ground, and find which movements work best. Transcribe the licks of your favourite players by ear, using slow-down software if you require it.
Remember, part of the reason the speed of bebop was sought is because guys like Parker could destroy tunes at SLOW tempos. You need to be able to do the same.
whoa awesome man I know a few of those kinds of lines but don't pull them off like you. hopefully with practice I will be able to execute how I'd like to one day!
Great stuff! I need to work on my chops methinks!

Well Done. Lol, Mozart would have only been a 1 year old in 1757. But for a prodigy like him, he could've came up with anything at that age.

jail, ain't a "bad place to be" if you can't choose... depend what you've done, and from where you come from... anyway home it's better :)
p.s. what's wrong with 1957? ... :)

What a good vid, man. I'm feelin' the bob lines, very smooth.
I have a vid of this song, it'd be sweet if you checked it out! It's not bad..though I'll probably never stack up to the likes of Hank Garland.
