Rain delay or not, the Marlins have never sold out in a regular basis the 60.000 stadium they share with the Dolphins and now with the Hurricanes as well. It should surprise no one that their new stadium does not top 40,000 in capacity. Therefore even a low attendace of even 20,000 will look like at least half the capacity of the stadium. Ironically, the Dolphins, and Hurricanes regularly put more fans in the Orange Bowl once, and now at Joe Robbie Stadium that the Marlins will ever do.

"Worst Possible Place"? Miami Orange Bowl is a recognizable place in South Florida. The building of a new stadium in that area would spring up new stores and hotels, boosting the economy and living conditions in Little Havana.
On the misconception of the profit the marlins supposedly dont make: "This year Forbes puts the Marlins total value at $256 million, up 5 percent from last year but still the lowest in the game. Ah, but their bottom line (after EBITDA) showed a $35.6 million profit, second only to the Nationals."
Now my opinion on the orange bowl sight is that I simply do not agree with it. A question for you... how come the area around the orange bowl is still in such bad shape after 71 years?

It's also in New York City, which are not only huge baseball fans, but it's also in a fairly decent location. The stadium currently used by the Marlins has a horrible location in a state that isn't particularly known for its baseball. Good thing we are getting a new stadium, though.

this is just a coinsidence 1. there was a rain delay for 2 hours that day and like 5000 people left out of the 8000 people that were there.the reason there was only 8000 people there in a 70000 seat stadium is because the weather was forcasted to be bad that day and no ones going to go to an open air stadium when its raining. and lastly the nationals suck and no one cares to watch them! i know all this cuz i was there that day! Well, today, the Florida Marlins sank as low as their fans! Getting swept by the worst team in the league - losing 2 games in which they had leads of 4-0 and 6-0-- they are truly DONE for the year. They NEED to fire their manager! Freddie Gonzalez is AWFUL! Their pitching staff is horrendous. With the new stadium, I suppose we can look forward to 2012. Now that the new stadium at the Old Orange Bowl site have approved for construction, opening day in 2012 (and beyond) is going to show how bad the idea was. Lets see how many seats out of 37,000 seats they can fill for 80 home games. I do not believe that even 40% of the 400 million in public money can be recovered from their sales in the next 10 or so years. There goes the neighborhood because of "Urban Renewal", destruction more likely due to artificially inflated land values in the area.

Rain delay or not, the Marlins have never sold out in a regular basis the 60.000 stadium they share with the Dolphins and now with the Hurricanes as well. It should surprise no one that their new stadium does not top 40,000 in capacity. Therefore even a low attendace of even 20,000 will look like at least half the capacity of the stadium. Ironically, the Dolphins, and Hurricanes regularly put more fans in the Orange Bowl once, and now at Joe Robbie Stadium that the Marlins will ever do.

Low budget but we manage to get some wins in my opinnion it takes some serious coaching skills to get over .500 witha low budget rookie team instead of most of these other teams with over $70Million in budget and the marlins won those world series because they played with heart

The only Marlins player (in 97 and 03) that I know was on the Mitchell Report was Gary Sheffield, and he had a subpar year in 1997 (only .250, 21 HR and 71 RBI), so NOTHING is tainted.
We're low budget and we still get World Series championships. The Mets have a huge payroll and STILL miss the playoffs.
Oh and the low payroll is because the Marlins receive very little profits because of their stadium lease. Not their fault.

The problem is the stadium (if you've gone to a game, you'd understand) and the lack of committal from the front office to sign players to long term contracts. Once a new stadium is built the salary will go up, which will make attendance go up.

"Worst Possible Place"? Miami Orange Bowl is a recognizable place in South Florida. The building of a new stadium in that area would spring up new stores and hotels, boosting the economy and living conditions in Little Havana.

It's also in New York City, which are not only huge baseball fans, but it's also in a fairly decent location. The stadium currently used by the Marlins has a horrible location in a state that isn't particularly known for its baseball. Good thing we are getting a new stadium, though.
