If I were in their position, I probably would have shortened it also. I personally think it's too laid back and slightly repetitive to play the entire thing through and keep an audience on their toes. Don't get me wrong, I love the song, it just isn't meant to be a big feature in a live setting.

The whole song is 3:05 seconds and is one of their biggest early hits. How can a song that lasts 3 minutes be too long and repetitive to be played live. Personally I can listen to Close to the Edge, Supper's Ready, and Thick As A Brick live every day. But that's just me.

I don't say that all of his stuff is complex, I mean, just look at "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". It's only 3 chords in the whole song. However, if you listen to the harmonies in the background of Bohemian Rhapsody, it's mind blowing to know that someone was able to come up with that all on their own, especially considering he's a rock musician, and not a an opera singer or anything like that.
