  • I didn't know clams were so hyper lol

  • I can remember WWAAYY back, seeing this song on the Ed Sullivan Show, then Sesame Street, and then on the Muppet Show! - each version is a prize! Thanks for the posting!

  • The way that Octopus rose up in the back kinda gave me a jolt! It's legs were kinda creepish! LOL Love this though!

  • this is awesome!!

i love the song and sesame street

    is an EPIC WIN!!

  • Let's hear I Am The Walrus.

  • I swear there is another video of this...

  • Kermit and Robin did it on The Muppet Show.

  • i love this song!!

    i love ringo

  • haha, this is awsome!

  • HOLY FUCK!! Sesame Street meets The Beatles = WIN!! Getting our kiddies into some good tunes... KUDOS SESAME STREET

  • This must be one of the rare "cover versions" on Sesame Street that follows the actual tune of the original. The other ones tend to be parodies, based on the original (for example, Hey Food or Letter B).

  • Ringo would love this haha.

  • the clam was awesome

  • Ringo Starr's real name is Richard Starkey. This was sung by someone who sounds like Jerry Nelson (the green guy).

  • Octopus's garden gotta be the best song Ringo has ever written.

  • sesame street

x3 its soooo nice id love it!!

  • go ringo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love sesame street, back in the day

  • ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SONGS BY RINGO!!!! Aaaaah! I'm going crazy! XD

    Total Fave!!!

  • lol awesome!

  • This is so cute, I love it.

  • it's funny!

When I was 7 years old I watched this in German (I'm 14 now).

Something dies in you when you become responsible, it's sad !

  • haha i love this!

  • no wonder i thought this was sesame street

  • This is great lol

  • lovin' that crazy clam

  • Ringo would've love this cover.

  • ringo's still alive

  • that blue fish is awesome.

  • AWESOME!!

  • só para avisar n tem piada

  • Isn't it sad that people have sunk so low in their minds that they can no longer perceive the purity and genius of The Beatles.

That's what religion and right wing fear mongering has done to people.

  • I totally agree.

  • I don't care about what people say about Sesame Street today. Sesame Workshop is doing an outstanding job educating and enriching the lives of todays millions of children as well as the child in every adult, including myself.

  • Hi Blacula

  • okay so Ringo wrote it because he was on Peter Sellers' yacht and he turned down the offer of an octopus lunch so the captain started telling him all these stories about the lives of octopuses and how they created gardens. so Ringo thought it was amazing because he wanted to be under the sea and get away from it all for a while. THAT is why he wrote the song, no drugs involved.

  • this is one of the greatest songs ever by the beatles, but only because it's one of the only songs the drumer wrote

  • lol, blib blub blib blub blub

  • The song is purely innocent and writeen by Starr after being told about how octopus' collect items for a 'garden' whilst in holiday. No LSD or anything

  • This rules.

  • Actually, this wasnt a tripy song. Ringo said while on a cruise he was told about how some octopus create small gardens for themselves. And he felt that it was a very nice thought of chilling out under water in a garden.

  • It's so cute. I love it.

  • ಥ_ಥ

*sniff* OMG I am gonna cry! I used to watch this show so much when I was little! SO MANY AWSOME MEMORIES!

  • Same here. Not only did I watch Sesame Street religiously, but I WORSHIPPED Abbey Road. This brings back a million happy memories for me. :)

  • I don't remember this, but it's adorable!

  • he sings better than ringo!! Not really but lol

  • =^__^= .aww.

  • You can tell the octopus in the background is on an erotic journey.

  • muhaaaaa i'm a babelfish!!!

  • Jim Henson & Frank Oz were the best.

  • They were a comedy team made in heaven. RIP Jim Henson

  • lol cute xD

  • oh my i think this was before my time....i don't remember seeing this on SS.

  • did the fish just say "I'd like to pee in the garden?" lol

  • My great grandpa loved this,

    he passed away in '96.

    Brought back sweet memories

  • epic. The Beatles = best group that ever existed

  • I remember this.. always loved it! Thanks for this post.. brought back memories.

  • Im sorry but the beatles must of been high when making this song. it sounds awsome though, very relaxing.

  • First off, Ringo wrote thhis song, not the Beatles.

  • They were high for a lot of thier songs.

  • actually mr. starr was just writing a song for kids

  • corection, ringo star must have been high when he wrote this

  • actually you're wrong. he wrote it after he heard a story about how octopus's make gardens out of shiny objects and he thought it was the happiest thing he has ever heard.

  • Ringo didn't write this. He just sang it.

  • I take that back, he did write it.

  • Wrong! While he was on vacation to some island (forgot the name) the people there had a tale about some Octopus's Garden. When Ringo came back he wrote a song about it, with the help of George Harrison ^^ Read The Anthology, it really explains alot about their songs made in the studio's :)

  • that's the thing, they were on LSD the whole damned time they were making their "magic"

  • wow you are way off. please do your research before posting bullshit like this.

  • who kermit?

  • really? not in 1961! from 1967 and on were they into that stuff. but i do know they did smoke pot a bit early on. but not LSD.

  • i just have to smile watching this

  • Oh man, this rocks.

  • ahahaha the blue fish is ADORABLE

  • I like the Muppet Show version better...

but it's all muppet, so it works for me.

  • HERE'S A CLAM

  • I love the German Version of this.....

This brings back so many childhood memories for me. C:

  • OMG this is soo cute

  • So I liked the Beatles before I even knew them ;D

I watched It when I was younger in German.

    <3

  • lol... I think i just figured out where Gonzo got his yodeling clam from.

  • How could I have missed this growing up? This is the first ever Beatles song I remember hearing!

  • Our elementary school music teacher (an aging "hippy") used to play his acoustic and teach us all of these, and this is also the first I remember hearing/learning of the Beatles :)

  • yes

  • This is awesome.

    AN OCTOPUS HAS EIGHT ARMS.

    LET'S COUNT THEM!

  • hahaha but i thought this song was originally written about weed!!! what is this doing on sesame street....?!?

    sweet!

  • You've never seen the "Letter B" skit?

  • i <3 this song!!!!!!

  • man, I listened to this song on their love album, and I swore I heard it somewhere. Its awesome that the muppets did this song. I just hope the Jonas Brothers dont screw it up.up.

  • Like they did to Stevie Wonder. The Beatles could be next.

  • They all ready screwed up HelloGoodbye. Let's just say it sounds exactley the same as all their other songs...

  • and I'd also like to add that this a beautiful song written by ringo, and johns guitar in the original version is absolutely mystifying

  • actually, its harrison playing that great lead. unless of course you were talking about the finger-style guitar lennon played.

  • yes, the lead guitar was pleasant but that finger style rhythm was simply beautiful.

  • <3..

  • I love this ringo song and I love this Album (Abbye Road)At first I thought It was wierd but Now I love it!This guy sings Beautifully!lol Let's count them!8

  • OME the clam si sooo lovely!!!

  • the song is from the beatles, isn't it?!

  • YUP

  • Yep

  • Ringo starr made alot of great and amazing songs that almost seemd like they were meant to be for children, including "Yellow submarine" and "With a little help from my friends" which were remade for kids just like in this video. Great work!

  • well to be honest with you beatlesfan6048, and no disrespect to you, octopus's garden was all him and don't pass me by as well from the white album, but with a little help from my friends was written by john and paul and ringo only sang it, same goes for yellow submarine

  • Thanks for posting. It's really fun!!

  • I am glad I grew up with this stuff :)

Sesame Street had great random silliness.

  • !! When did this air? When I was little, I was a huge fan of Sesame Street, and I'm gonna kick myself if I never saw THIS!

  • Ringo Starr sang this. It's a really great song!

  • And he wrote this one.

I heard this the first time 11 years ago in German, called Im Garten eines Kraken. It's one of my favorite Beatles-songs

  • The clam is the best part. He YODELS. Although he spooked me out a bit.

  • The singing clam is the best part!

  • 1969 Octopuses garden-that garden probably looks diffrent now.

  • I USED TO WATCH THIS WHEN I WAS LITTLE! ahhhh!

  • I have been singing this with my little girl while she takes her bath and plays with her mermaid doll....:)

  • omg i love this song loaddss.

I never knew it was in Sesame Street.

    This is adorable!

    "hit it fishy"

    :D

  • OMG, I love this! The clam was always my favorite part, because he looked so silly to me yodeling.

  • I remember this!! I sang this song for weeks! Only later on in life I would find out it's a Beatles song. fun fun

  • This is very cute but It doesn't remind me

    of the Beatles.

  • Cute, tho the Clam always spooked me out for some reason. But he did have a lot of enthusiasm, gotta admit!

  • This is so cute!

  • Sesame Street meets the Beatles...ah, how fun. :D

  • 2 of the best things ever hahaha

  • Are the muppet characters behind a real aquarium?

  • That clam is so. CUTE.

  • ha! muppets are actually reallly cool for some reason

  • Classic

Brings a tear to ones eye..... 'sniff'

  • This song does kinda fit in with Muppets and Sesame Street for some reason....

  • this is adorable!

  • This is not as good as the Muppet one with Kermit, Robin and Miss Piggy...and I can't forget Animal!!!

  • ANIMAL! ANIMAL! ANIMAL!

  • Thats alot of octopus lol

  • I have this song in my iPOD.XD

  • lol

  • I would also like to be in an Octupus 1969 garden myself.

  • Don't know if you're interested, but Ringo wrote this because when he was a little kid on a fishing trip, the boat captain told him about the octopus's penchant for building gardens out of brightly colored stones, just outside his/her cave.

Ringo never forgot the story and the rest is history....

  • i read that he was on a boat tour with his wife and kids. the rest is right but he was an adult.

  • I always remembered this song as an adult, but didn't know where it came from. I love you tube!!!!

  • its also a beatles song, reheadedviking.

  • it came from the murky depths of ringo starr's mind

  • I remember from when I was young in the early 90's.

  • And in the 60s!!

  • i see in 70`s in Mexico City

  • this is ausome!

  • You know what's not awesome? Your spelling.

  • JAJAJAJAJAJAJA, don´t worry, nobody has a sense of humor!

  • I remember these, I lived off beatles, and this was the first song I heard of them because I watched this when I was little. XD

  • if you listen carefully, that is not kermit's voice. It may look like Kermie, but its not.

  • I think it IS Jim Henson, is it not? (Did you ever notice how similar Kermit and Ernie sounded?) And he was voicing Kermit l---o---n---g before Sesame Street.

  • haha i remember seeing this segment wen i was little hehe

  • lol, that's kermit?

  • No it's not Kermit. Kermit doesn't have a pointed head.
