These two demo lads really aren't the most musical. :/ I'd love to see what someone like Squarepusher, or Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater could do with such creative scope.
@MrDaraghkinch if you search on YouTube for other Eigenharp videos, you'll find a large collection of demos made by other musicians, thanks for watching!
Calling this an expressive instrument doesn't even nick the surface. Absolute ultimate for the serious musician. Geat basic and actually followable demo
@AverySparkx The instruments you mentioned can produce sound alone. All Eigenharps are MIDI controllers, meaning they'll cost more one the long run as you need something attached to it to make sounds.Even the cheaper Pico will cost more than a full fledged 88 key midi controller.
This is a wonderful instrument that for how much it cost at the moment is super cheap but not a lot of people dont kow about it because the people who where dooin the marketing for this messed up and couldent recover.
Is it theoretically possible to use this to control any software that can take midi input? Say like Tracktor and Serrato (for DJing) and say something like Ableton or Reason? I would love the possibility of being able to switch between the DJ software and a program like Ableton... without changing controllers.
@3mptyLab I started whit the piano, and dude... In a piano, u dont have to struggle to get the sound, Did I explain? U just play and even a 5 year old can play a nice melody, whitouth any knowledge of music. Not the same in a guitar... and of course with time u become better, but the sound is just way easier to get in a piano. Sorry for my excentric Inglish LOL xD
Eigenharp is an advanced controller (like mouse, touchpad, keyboard, joystick, MIDI controllers, others ...) which controls the software and sound system of a computer.
This computer/audio system processes the events which arrive from the Eigenharp controller and modulates and enriches them with real time effects.
So the eigenharp does not produce a single tone by itself (like a "harp" does), you always need a good (specific) computer/software/audio system to play it.
Not impressed at all : / Seems pointless really, stuck all those ideas in one instrument, that doesn't sound amazing, or look amazing, or look enjoyable to play : /
@robosmcpherson No... tron didnt have music like that. Not even Legacy. The whole song I'm thinking of was 8bit and that wouldn't really fit into a film.
The shape & appearance of the larger "Alpha" instrument looks like it was inspired by the renaissance and early baroque predecessor to the bassoon, the dulcian/curtal - its amazing as to how similar the shapes are. Clearly the designers saw some early bassoons and were inspired???
The samples are amazing on this. On other electornic synth and such, they sound really cheap and not able to be useable, but here they sound like the real thing, and you can be really creative and expressive with it.
Check out Eigenlabs website for more info. It takes a month of daily practice to be able to play it on stage. You get what you put in. It will be difficult to play if you spend 5 minutes a month practicing.
I'm gonna download this video and keep an mp3 copy of the song they do at the end. Many of you are not skilled enough to do such things. Such people should kill themselves now to avoid embarrassment and a life of unending misery.
@yutsis I was thinking about this too, but i have found out through experience that bluetooth isn't always stable, and you can loose connection, i was thinking maybe thats why then did it.
Slick, but it has some weaknesses. Rather than doing one thing well it tries to do everything imaginable. All that customizability means that no one will ever master it, because its interface is a moving target. Much of the learning to play it involves understanding its myriad of control parameters. There's nothing singularly unique about it, in that any sound you make on it can be created by other controllers. And lastly, it will always sound like a synthesizer through speaker cones.
BTW - it will only work on a MAC. It's not Windows compatible and you still need to hook it up to your stereo or guitar amp to get any kind of decent sound. The drums sound cheesy. $5600 for the Alpha is way too expensive for this toy. I wouldn't call it portable either. You need a computer at all times to hear anything. Does it have a spit valve? Where does the condensed breath water accumulate?? Horn players will know what I'm talking about.
@guitgeo Good point about the condensation in the breath tube....but bassoonists like myself will know what you mean even more than horn players (I played horn too as a child)....the Alpha model looks a lot like a renaissance dulcian/early bassoon! ;)
I don't really like making musik with the normal instrument but those look so freaking cool and fun, i wanna try them...
