  • My God, I think I love this woman.

  • WHAT A CLASSIC FROM LATE 80S , WHAT A RICH SOULFULL VOICE THATS BEYOND COMPARE .. TIME FOR RERELEASE AND RAISE THIS LADYS PROFILE AGAIN . A BREATH OF FRESH AIR COMPARED TO THE THRASH WE HAVE TO LISTEN TO THESE DAYS.

  • I heard this song once long ago and was unable to ever forget it. The voice and the lyrics are just too good to forget. The lack of commercial success just shows that many music buyers just don't get it.

  • its a shame what the usa and other countries did ti africa while the white winter city gets richer and richer off of their diamonds

  • one of the songs that defined the 80s for me. utterly beautiful.

  • its 3:17 am; a thought just came to me, my sister bought me the Julia Fordham L.P. with this which was the first track when it came out, she had never bought me anything b4 and it came right out of the blue. Till now I had completely forgotten about this song, I was into metal at the time but even a thrash metal man like myself had heard this song on the radio and was so impressed by her amazing that my sister rushed out and bought me a copy for my 18th

  • I so remember this song....bought the CD...I love her voice and the melody!!

Took me back to being around 17/18 :)

  • I was 4 yrs old when my mom played this song for me for the first time. Thank you mommy. It is truly timeless.

  • 雅子さんに教わりました。遠い遠い思い出の曲です。

  • catchy .. i like the rythmn of the song..

  • 理想の女性です。20数年前に出会ってから、その気持ちは変わりません。声のトーン、ルックス、もちろん楽曲、すべてが美しい・・・。

  • Sexxxxxyyyy song!!!!

  • i just love everything shes done - loved her for years

  • Wow a classic. This piece is timeless and always sounds great.

  • What the hell happened to her and Nicky Hollad?

  • *smacks chest to call song and lady retarded* if that even is a lady lololol

  • What a beautiful beautiful song, timeless.

  • What a beautiful beautiful song, timeless.

  • Ew---Now here's one I haven't seen or heard in an island minute. What, maybe summer or fall of '88?? All I know is I was like 16, and VH-1 used to play this every hour-lol. Still, the smooth, catchy, beat that I remember---And Julia's voice...timeless.

  • Never get tired listening to this song! She has the great voice ever!

  • She's a bass!

  • Love it soooo much!!!

  • I heard this song on an NPR station a few months ago and it was love at first sound!

  • i like it a lot! wow!

  • A beautiful lady with a voice to match. It is indeed a haunting song. A fantastic arrangement as well.

  • My favorite sog !

  • One of our best singers---she's just come out with a new album with Paul Reiser (Mad About You) on piano!

  • Beautiful song

  • Julia Fordham and Tracey Thorn are a couple of the most under-rated female singers out of the last three decades...

  • Awesome song. One of the most underated and underplayed songs of the 80's. This song got very limited play on VH1 and I never heard it on the radio or in a bar/restaurant or anywhere else for that matter, I know because I looked and listened for it. You have to be a hardcore 80's music fan to know it exists.I've always wondered if there was a dispute with a record/media exec and they had the song blocked/blacklisted.I'm not saying it should have been #1 but it should of been a bigger hit.

  • @garpant This was an AC hit peaking at #24

  • @PopCulture20 Thanks for the info. It should have went higher.I always felt it was a shame the way it seemed to just disappear into obscurity.

  • @garpant

I agree. This song is amazing. The Cd is incredible. It's funny how a song can take you back intime to a specific place inyour mind and heart. This is definitly one of those songs.

  • @garpant I agree 100%. Took the words out of my mouth.

  • Unique voice...heard it for the first time some years ago while in the car. Ever since have bought everything she has ever released.

  • the white sade...i always thought julia was underrated and never got the credit or the record sales she deserved

  • Yes about 9 or 10 years old just jamming to this video..love it just the same today.

  • BeeeeeeeaaaaaUtiful voice! Haunting! :)

  • Good memories.

  • Happy Ever After--esta canción cuando la escuche me gusto y casi me hace llorar y asta que la encontre pence que era un hombre de color quien la cantaba y valla sorpresa guapa mujer y blanca bonita canción

  • My fantasy girl of the eighties

  • I spent three years in military service overseas, and came back to the U.S. in 1988. This was the first radio song I had heard back in the the states, and I was hooked. Its the Vocal that haunts, and still does. I've never heard anything quite like it since.

  • Such a good song. Never heard before. Who produced this?

  • love it........

  • wow am I the only one who always thought she was black? She's got a very powerful voice.

  • @AurynThePaladin Black ?!! I thought she was a bloke ! I hear this frequently in my local supermarket and it has bugged me for ages as to who the singer was. For some reason I thought it was Terence Trent D'Arby. At least he is black.

Of course, none of the foregoing distracts me from considering it a great record.

  • This song is almost tropical in feeling. In the spring of 1989, as my father lay dieing of cancer, I used this song and played it over and over as a mantra. I just kept visioning myself driving along the Florida Keys as this song played and my father layed dieing.

  • pertama kali dengar lagu ini waktu gue sma kelas 1

  • So don't ask me why I am running out of laughter.....etc. I used these lyrics on a Names Project Quilt panel for my partner who died of AIDS twenty one years ago this week. I still miss him and think of Michael every time I hear this beautiful song.Thank you Julia for this song and all the others that I have fallen in love with since.

  • @NewHopeRichieRich i am so sorry for you loss x

  • @NewHopeRichieRich i am so sorry for your loss x

  • she is incredible

  • Simply beautiful.

  • Just beautiful... I've loved this song forever; I will never grow tired of it! :)

  • I didn't discover this song until 97 and still find it a beautiful song in 2010. It's also a happy song.

  • She's magic

  • Been hooked since I saw her at the Astoria in London in 87 What a voice xx

  • Sweet.

  • moo... ( a sad cow kicking the dirt )

  • I love this song, it brings back memories in the 90s.

When I was in Secondary school, quite a few school concerts featured this song as the soundtrack for dance performances. Good days :)

  • This brings back memories :) Seemed that everyone had a dance performance to this song in my Secondary school back in the 90s.

  • Lovely song, takes me back, should i say us. Wonderful, soulful and modern music. A one off!

  • Always, always have loved Julia!

  • Ethereal quality makes her seem angelic...and hot!

  • This song is the first Julia Fordham song I ever heard. I have since had a love affair with her voice and her music. It still gives me chills.

  • Don't ask me why i'm running out of Laughter

theres tears in these eyes, not happy ever after

and I thought it was plain to see

and I thought the whole world could be

and I thought we be happy ever after

You could say that I'm living in a pipe dream

it's just looking back, things are never what they seem

and I hope I can safely say

and I hope most things go my way

and I hope they'll be happy ever after

  • @perpetual61 thanks for the lyrics!!

  • I really like 2:45 and onward to the end of the song. I've always loved African-esque music and vocals.

  • woo! Shiver down my back... For me this is Proust's cup of coffee and cake..x

  • class act

  • this song is great. does makes me think of africa and being in masai mara in kenya...would ave been nice if they included some shots of the parks and the animals..maybe an african sunset which are spectacular

  • I saw Julia Fordham at Bimbo's 365 in San Francisco about ten years ago; she gives a great show and has an easy, casual humorous rapport with her audience. Phenomenal range, strong at both ends.

  • Believe it or not she was challenged about the cum by ye refrains the studios thinking it would be too 'ethnic'.

  • Thanks

    永遠の名曲ですね どうもありがとう

  • What an unique voice...

really brings back a lot of memories for all of us....

She does look like Linda Hamilton, the actress of Sarah Connor of the movie Terminator 1 and 2...

and she is hot and sweet !!!

  • Julia's CD was one of the first ones I bought oh so many years ago.

  • She Looks Like Actress Helen Slater in her 1985 Role Of "The Legend Of Billie Jean.

  • i 've always loved this song....

  • When i first got cable back in the late '80s and turned on vh-1, this is the song that was playing. I was mesmerized and have loved it ever since. Of course that was back when vh-1 played videos, not the unadulterated crap they peddle these days.

  • @sowhatelse: I have to agree.

  • @sowhatelse what a lovely little story

  • Please, can somobody download the Julia Fordham's song "Italy" ? It's a real masterpice.

  • Talk about the little things you miss in life! I heard this song playing outside of Starbucks earlier today on the way in to grab a Frappucino! I hadn't heard this song in about 18 years, and had forgotten all about it! It's amazing how you won't see a video or hear a song in so long, then in one unexpected moment, it all comes back to you, thanks to a cup of coffee.....

  • one of the best songs and one of the best singers there is...

Julia fordham was my late fiance's favorite artist!

  • she was a BG vocalist for mari wilson in 83 -- wow. but her intelligence, strength, and insight was waiting for this song. she is a gifted artist. thx julia for all that u do.

  • Or maybe someone who defends people against moronic fuckwit comments like yours

  • I remember years ago,.....my mom and dad were fighting and I took refuge in this song. It was the first time that I realized my parents were human. So I walked off. I miss the time before........

  • By the way: Julia is NOT a lesbian, I just read on internet. She's straight, but she is a kind of icon for lesbians. And she don't mind.

  • I could't care less if she's a dyke. This a beautiful song!

  • you are right i love this song

  • This song as so much meaning so so good, very nice song should have had more fame in her native england.

  • Loved this video the moment I saw it played on tv. Julia is a talented singer and the song is a song for our times. Poignant and powerful message. Too bad she did not get more recognition when this first came out many years ago.

  • julia's first starting track, asian chorographed, Music compostion a miracle.

  • Timeless song! Who wouldn't want to sing like that??

  • what meaning of "um by yay"?

  • Regardless what you think of her voice (which I think is beautiful), the song itself is a landmark for human rights. In fact, she did a redo on Happy Ever After, changing the lyrics that South Africa is now happy ever after. Julia is a great talent...wish she had better airplay in the US.

  • i agree with you about this song. it is a landmark.

  • julias best song ever ! period

  • Since I heard the original version in the 80's, I became a great fan of this delightful singer ! This song is magic like Miriam Makeba song's.

  • fantastic!!

  • Someone below mentions this sounds like Annie Lennox. Well, while I am a fan of Annie Lennox, Julia Fordham's voice (and material) is much better. I've never understood how Julia isn't better known than she is. When I see people fawning over the likes of Duffy, Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen etc, I just wish they'd check out the incredible Julia Fordham.

  • Totally agree. My favourite female voice from the last 20 years. fantastic range. Julia, your voice is an amazing instrument!

  • It feels good.

  • its sounds like its being sung by annie lennox great song

  • Excellent ! Fantastic and unique sound !

  • this is a beutiful song. I thought a guy was singing this when I first heard it while taking yoga. I search for this song and here it is. I was suprise at this woman's deep singing voice. Absolutely stunning!

  • Love this song, remember it well!

  • 20 years and this has not dated at all.

  • Fantastic song..very haunting melody..for some reason when listening to this song it helps me to relax myself.

  • I was in Germany and it played on MTV Euro all of the time. I've seen the video and heard the song a handful of times and since its been the song that I still feel when a moment of beauty entagles me.

  • Great Song

  • the melody reminds me of African Safari or African jungle. cool

  • Still one of my favorite songs ever. Back when VH-1 still played videos, I turned it on and this was playing and I've never been able to forget it. Thanks for posting it on youtube.

  • If you can't tell that she's a beautiful woman you need to get your eyes checked or see a shrink..OR BOTH..

  • Love this song, kind of haunting melody.

She reminds me of the girl from the Thompson Twins....
