@BlueBajs, you can get really cheap puppies or dogs at shelters and pounds. It's a really good thing to do =D Knowing that you saved a dogs life.

Anyways, are golden labs and black labs are the same right? Are they just different colours, or do they have different temperaments?

Some people say big dogs like labs are okay with smaller spaces, like apartments... is this true??

Cus' my uncle just got one and he lives in a small-ish apartment.

This comment is a little late, but for anyone else reading this -- Please do not get your loved ones pets as gifts. Animals are a huge expense and responsibility, and should only be gotten if you have the time, money, energy, and dedication to care for one. Springing it on someone as a surprise is never a good thing to do. Too many animals are surrendered to shelters or put on the streets because of an impulse buy.

my parents are animal people so dogs have always kinda just been there ya know. but i would say, do tons tons of research about shelters, breeds, breeders, about the health problems with dogs, get a book about raising and behavior books. do tons of research to prove your committed. also do something extra to show your responsibility. like do the dishes more or dog sit a dog of a friend or something. ya know and just use the excuse that your "lonely" haha :)

haahaa, one day, my sister ran up to me at the playground and said mom and dad agreed to get a puppy. i didn't believe her. a week later, we go to see a little of golden retrievers and bring home our Koa.

then, one day, i convinced my mom to get another one, and we went out that very day and got Darla, my dad had no idea she agreed until he came home later that day, after she basically ran him over. :3

we didn't. we had recently lost our two older collies about a year or so before, and they finally decided that our family wasn't compelte without a dog, and then before we knew it, was got Koa.

With Darla, it was more of a therapy idea for my depression.

do TONS of research. about breeds, breeders, shelters, dog behavior issues, puppy mills and why they are bad, get dog raising/behavior books. dont nag but seem very committed. also, do things that seem very responsible. like doing homework, studying, doing dishes etc. my friend had to walk an "invisible dog" twice a day and spend 20 minutes in the yard training and playing with the "dog" for months. then she got her dog and they are so happy

They're bid dogs, but they stay a Medium size I guess. It's not like having a Great Dane they're a nice size dog.
