IMO this doesn't follow the book closely enough, and seems overall silly. First off, Sauron didn't lose simply because Isildur cut off the ring. Elendil and Gil-galad fought him and sort of defeated, or at least greatly fatigued him (and perished in the process), and Isildur just finished the job.

It also bothers me that Elendil, Numenorean king, who supposedly was a lot more powerful than Aragorn looks like a hobo, and on top of that gets one shot by Sauro?. And what happened to Gil-galad?

@lundhal I completely agree, it sucks that this intro is such a tease. The Silmarillion indeed has the most epic battles, but putting it on the big screen requires movie studios getting the rights to it. The book has so many stories though, almost too many, and I don't think Christopher Tolkien will ever agree to letting someone try to adapt it to film.

1) they should have shown gil gilad leading the charge of elves in a charge (slighty seen in the backgroud on 0:25-0:26.

2) they should have shown gil gilad fighting sauron, eventually loosing, and where sauron lifts up gil gilads body and sets it on fire.

i think adding those would have made it way awesome!
