True. It was a poor analogy drawn from his personal experience.
Nevertheless there is sufficient difference between Episcopalian and Baptist for John McCain not to be confused between them. The point is well made, here and elsewhere, that John McCain lied during the campaign.

Okay I didnt even bother to listen to this, the title shows how dumb this guy really is. How can someone be a religion? Does he mean "John McCain confused about what his religion is." ?
I highly doubt Cenk himself names the titles of the TYT Youtube videos. Even if he does, it prob. was a typo. And so what? The spelling has nothing to do with the video itself.
That is the whole point for Mcain. He was so desperated that he changed his religion to gain the baptist vote. Religion might matter in terms of views that might influence state views. Many hols extreme religious views and try to smack into the state. Either way you are also right. Why does it matter if his episcopelation? Because many Babtist dislike catholics and episcopalians. To the point the are not considered Christians by them. Crazy.

Your missing the point. McCain doesn't know what his religion is? Come on, you don't believe that do you? He knows his religion, he just said he was a different religion for political gain. If he's willing to lie about his religion, what else is he willing to lie about? That's the point they're making and that's why its so important. Can you trust McCain or not. Looks like people got smart and said no.
Those commentators don't like McCain. Well, they're entitled, probably following American politics more closely than I do. But Obama doesn't strike me as 'a straight talker' either. He wants to get out of Iraq because it's a mess and they shdn't have got in anyway. Fair enough. BUT IN THE SAME BREATH he says he will then set things straight in Afghanistan, get Bin Ladin out of Pakistan, if necessary against the wishes of the Paki government - sounds like we're heading for an even bigger mess!!!

Obama's not talking about taking out leadership in Afghanistan and turning it into a democratic nation, he talking about going after the guy who was behind 9/11. That was the reasoning for going into Iraq in the first place. I know its hard to remember b/c they keep changing their reasons for why we went into Iraq but that was the primary reason.
why should i not consider the fact that one of the candidates talks to an imaginary friend in the sky and believes that if he dies he will still have another life waiting for him...
Why did the stock market crash and the economy is in ruins? Because the world woke up and realized that the next president will either be Barack Hussein Obama or John McCain. I refuse to participate and vote for either. Ralph Nader at least is a vote for change, competence, credibility, and character.
Are you fuckin kidding me dude? He's the biggest tool in the entire election. A bigger tool then Palin & I've gotta tell you, that's no small task. If you're going to vote, fucking vote for RON PAUL. Just vote for Ron Paul if you hope to have any rights, and/or want to be alive (and/or want any friends or family members to be alive) in a decades time... I know I want to be alive, so...
Holy shit, that must have been the dumbest statement I have ever seen posted on a website loaded with dumb statements. I honestly don't know how to respond to such a retarded comment. Grow up, in years and reasoning. You're a dumb person.
That is fine if you want to, but a vote for Nader is a vote for McCain. It just pulls Obama voters to Nader, lowering Obama's numbers, and getting McCain into office. Its what happened in the last election. But, I'm guessing that that was your point, and you are actualy a McCain voter.
Let's hope McCain doesn't get elected, and Obama for that matter. Vote Ron Paul or Ralph Nader. Wouldn't it be great to have a president that doesn't lie?

why the F#¤k should religion play a part in Politics. Its so much crap. These presidential candidates are only saying they are religious so that they can collect the christian votes.
@kimjongil: Religious organizations are exempt from having to pay federal taxes. If they can't stay out of politics, then they should be taxed like everyone else.
"And I'm in favor of offensive, aggressive wars that get our kids killed for no reason."
Remember back in the 1980s, when McCain opposed fighting in Lebanon? "I say that war is the ultimate option and we should only send out soldiers when absolutely necessary, I learned that from Vietnam." (paraphrased) Well, WHAT THE HELL IS IRAQ THEN?
Hassidic or Reform? This jerk is obviously an atheist who cares nothing about the Jewish people in Israel. If his man Obama is elected, that's it for Israel. Bye Bye. Lights out. Then after the destruction, Obama will fly over to Tehran and sternly warn his Persian friends not to ever do that again.
What is Obama's religion? First it was Muslim, then he became an athiest, then went over to "Christian" for political reasons, then admitted he didn't go to church that often, though he was a member of Rev.Wright's radical black power church for 20 years. What a joke!!!
Anyone with the delusion that there is a personal "god", ominipotent, omnipresent, omniscient and a purveyor of fantastical, contradictory and derivative literature is nuts. What about Santa, the Tooth Fairy, and those friggin' garden elves? Don't they deserve some press time from the wingnuts, too?
Christian denominations are, the most part, it's gray. I grew up in a non-denominational church, then started going to a Baptist church, and was involved in an Assembly of God group in college. When asked what I am, I say Christian and I don't say Baptist or whatever. Denominations are not Biblical and are man-made things, so it really shouldn't be an issue. The man's a Christian, and at least he's not saying that and then mocking Christianity like Obama does. Obama's the liar in this area.
I agree a Christian should just be a christian, however you should also endorse your faith he could have said non-denominational but Obama has at least stuck to his faith and was willing to debate his faith with Clinton unlike Mccain who will not talk about his faith.
"Mocking Christianity" means pointing out what the Bible actually says, such as Leviticus 11:10-12 that calls eating shellfish an ABOMINATION — FOUR TIMES in only THREE VERSES, or Deuteronomy 21:18-21 that says that stubborn children must be retroactively aborted by stoning.
Listen up: if you don't like what the Bible plainly says, DON'T blame OBAMA (or ME)! WE didn't WRITE it!
@sdpadresfan Good for you, sir. You're a good American to me. Frankly, I don't give two shits whether your a rep voting for a dem or a dem voting for a rep. You are one of the few people who aren't afraid to put the country before the parties. Sorry, I know it's been awhile, but you have my thanks.
Why are republicans doing this..........they brought Bush and he was and still a shame and now they've brought a man straight from the nursing home to lead their party, damn.
I agree 100%. I read McCain's medical reports. He is a sick, sick man and basically a cancer farm. Without a doubt he will get some sort of tumor in the next four years. The Republican party should just change its name to the Evil Occupier party. This would be a more accurate name.
I'm as left as they get but I'd take McCain over Giuliani or Thompson ANY DAY. the latter two men are utterly evil and corrupt to the very core. At least McCain knows what sacrifice is
You should learn to breath your brain needs oxygen. It's not what his religion is that is so appaling, is that he is lying and he doesn't even realize it is so obviously transparent.
@barbtennent: Is it difficult to watch and listen to their lies? It's all on YouTube whether Obama, Hillery or McCain. Why do we vote for mediocrity year after year? Are voters that dumbed-down? When psychotics end up in the White House, what can one expect? Uneducated voters will be the demise of our country. There are too many going to school just to find a job that makes a lot of money. What happened to the students that enjoy going to school because they want to expand their horizons?
Wait, there's room for Mitt Romney and Guiliani and the reanimated corpse of Fred Thompson, but McCain's the one who's imploding? Man, the GOP is messed up.
The difference between a Baptist and an Episcopalian is pretty extreme. Episcopalian are the ones in the US who don't hate gay people. That's why he says he's a Baptist. The two churches have the same roots in the English Reformation, but the Baptists were a dissenting church that came over to the New World. The Episcopalians are the Church of England! The Baptists (some of them) have gone insane.
Can I ask why this is so important?

I'm as left as they get but I'd take McCain over Giuliani or Thompson ANY DAY. the latter two men are utterly evil and corrupt to the very core. At least McCain knows what sacrifice is
qwerty4197 4 years ago 3
True - he sacrificed everything he used to stand for and sucked up to the far right in order to get votes.

I so very much agree!

Is fascism a religion?
bigsid920 4 years ago
lots of Episcopalians have left the church, it's McCain's right to switch....what is YOUR problem?
barbtennent 4 years ago

You shuold whine more, with a really high, nasal
complaining voice, kind of like a teenager
making fun of somebody. That would add to your
credibility. It would make you more impressive.

He's a truely sad little man.
DblOSmith 4 years ago 3
He was raised Episcopalian; he has, for a long time, been a practicing baptist. Let's play fair. He wasn't lying.
alteredlame666 4 years ago
And yet he registered as the former?
Dogmeat5000 4 years ago
Good Point. They're all politicians.

He's old and confused

And the genuinely sad part about McCain is that he used to be a caring individual. Somewhere back up the road, he just sold out.
