this is awesome if this version does not move you you vertainly were not moved by andy taylor's version of this song and his own new touches he was not quite as spanish flamenco guitarist love this was great love, william "the joker" the sing blue silver version eliminates some of the sound that makes this great rock n roll nice love, william "the joker"
so glad this on here. I remember listening to this on the original vinyl and thinking just how seminal and emotive track it is. a true testament to their musical and lyrical skill. This was circa 1978 when the track first saw its roots....v avant garde. Cant say I'm really bothered by any disparaging comments, if this doesnt move you somewhere within, I suggest you listen harder.

this is my favourite song ever,as i just told a friend,i used to open my bedroom window, and look outside into the distance, i was meloncoly but loving the track too, sad? well i had a lot to be sad about, but its just a beautiful meloncolic dreamy song, thanks for posting
This is the demo before the album version was done. Le Bon did this song entirly on his own - bass line added afterwards. Splendid this song can be reduced to this and still be incredible.
This when i heard for the first time instantly impacted my senses like a speeding train and what i would say is a beautiful, melancholic, spirtiual, harmonic, raw, classy piece of real music. i think that duran were a money macking machine but underneath the hoorah and bandanas was and still is a truley special band with highly creditable and outstanding creative talent. this is what duran are before the videos and polished looks of their videos. wonderful and always will be one of my favourites

this was the b-side to rio. i must have been maybe 14 when i heard this and id say that its probably the most memorable or one the most memorable tracks i ever heard. goosebumps and hair on neck stand up. DD one the classic artists in decades.
OMG!! I remembered it too from the b side of Rio. I thought I was the only on in the world that knew about this version of the song. I have been trying to get this song on my ipod but it aint listed! I did find it on napster but I am too tight to join!
actually now on itunes they put the Rio albulm the Collectors Edition on their and this version of The Chauffer is on their, I just bought it and can't stop listening to it.

ASTOUNDING demonstration of Simon LeBon's talent as a lyricist. And to think, the commercial version has ZERO guitar. Hmmm.

Don't forget, "swim seagull in the sky" and
"deep splinters in your mind."
Superb poetry made into song.
