  • Lol at the tree huggers posting comments here! Beautiful loco and great video!

  • okay lets say its amazing...but by doing that you pollute the wrold 1000x faster than 100 ordinary man smoking cigarettes!!!!

  • Man, that's one steamin' train there.

  • Dear Santa.......

  • veramente bellissimo!!!

    how hold is it?

  • WOW! They actually kept the track instead of putting the bike/jog path over it!

  • pollution much?

  • @rpblcan actually not necessarily---you are watching steam being emitted not smoke. so how bad it pollutes depends on what they are burning. But Diesel burns real dirty, so is possible that it pollutes less than most trains today.

  • @kaben1979 i dont think i saw white smoke only. There are plenty of ''Black Soot'' too.

  • and then people wonder why is there global warming!11

  • awsome vid

  • why did it back up?

  • Four people don't like Steam Engines.

  • Just Think If That Was All weed Smoke Coming Out that entire Town Would Be High as a Kite haha

  • My friend fredztube is wrong about the operating railways in Canada. There are several operating railways, including CN Hudson on special occasion and the operating railway at Tottenham (north of Toronto), Ontario.

  • that thing looks and sounds like a monster

  • lol the best part is the joggers out for a nice run until this monster comes roaring up the hill. lol priceless

  • Beauty train again..these loks so big and strong!! always a pleasure to see!!

History is rolling in front off our eyes...keep them running!!

  • i am an italian boy and i am 29 years old.what do i do for a job in this railway company???Thank you for a consideration.

  • @tommyangelo1 There is no "job" per-sey with this rail road. It's all volunteer work. This, the SP 4449, and the OR&N 197 are owned by the city of Portland Oregon, while being ran and maintained by volunteers and the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation.

  • Any train that can black out the Sun has my respect.

  • wonder why it stoped and then move backwords?

  • I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!!! lol.

  • Hey great vids. I'm really enjoying the steam trains. I must ask though: how come black smoke blows out in between the bursts of white steam?

  • monster!

  • THAT IS WHAT WE LOVE FROM YOUR COUNTRY. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO.

    PEACE.

  • The original CHOO CHOO train lol

  • i dont know alot , but if u were to stan on a bridge and that steam hit you would you get burn ?

  • Amazing video Ervans ! you are so lucky to have those wonderful steam loco still operational in USA ! cause in Canada all ours steam loco are in museums except for the John Molson steam loco that is still operational but for show in delson Quebec at the railroad museum ! i always be amazed by those wonder ! but the story of some of them are a sadly shame , the Canadian national had a hundred of the "confederation" being built for them only six survive and are in museum ! thanks so much ! Fred

  • @fredztube Thanks for your comments

  • @ervans Who was the hogger on this run ??.......from the whistle, almost sounds like Jack Doyle ??

  • @fredztube Fortunately the Royal Hudson is being completely overhauled. Hopefully she will make more runs soon.

  • @fredztube

Guess what my fellow Canadian. There is another steam locomotive that is still operational and does make runs. CP Rail's 2816 Empress. Right now they are preparing the run schedule for 2011. They have a page on facebook and there is some info on the CP Rail main page. :D

  • Nothing like the spectacle of steam power... An awesome video...

  • Woooooooooow!!! BIg naturals smoke

  • GREAT Video!

    I like steam locomotives.

  • God, you would think it was a forest fire with all that smoke..........I love those old trains...........Its like those steamers are living, breathing, creatures:)

  • @4inches4u - It's just water vapor. Besides, 700 is an oil burner so there are no coal cinders or sparks to ignite a fire anyway.

  • Superb smoke

  • it looks very dangerous but it is sooooo awesome. great vid

  • it's nice to relive noises coming from the past compliments

  • A joy to watch !! Spectacular !!! btw Nice HD quality vid... Sony ,?

Have a nice day Ervans, keep posting..

    Ed, Belgium Europe....

  • That whistle sounds exactly like Norfolk & Western 611.

  • Absolutely beautiful train whistle. Wow!!

  • Very nice, huge steamlocomotive, i like that bell ringing on the top of the locomotive.

  • Great job on the video AND sound.

  • i must come to U.S.A. one year just to see your big steam trains

  • beautiful !!

  • By far my favorite train video

  • It is my favorite also

  • Maybe sometime

  • The diesel engine I hear in the back Is that just to provide electric power for the rest of the train Or is it used for traction too?

    Jim

  • I think it's a gasoline engine for electric power

  • why is it producing so much steam? i mean i know its not bad for the enviorment, but its like a scary amount of steam.

  • @MichaelHeida It's cause it is probably cold outside, steam condenses more when it's colder than warmer. Happens to every steam engine.

  • How does she do that?

  • Thanks! This one is very well done, almost as though it had been scripted, but much better. Robert

  • Thanks, I did like the way it came out with no editing.

  • Incredible, and amazing! A wonder of technology. Really dig seeing and hearing this part of history.

  • Thanks

  • That thing is so wicked , its nice to see these old classic trains .

  • Thanks for the comment

  • AHH there's no better way to end it then the sound of the whistle echoing through the park.

    Perfict, Just Perfict.

  • Thanks, It did have a great echo of the hills

  • And that my friends is why my playlist is appropriatley named Extreme Steam 2009!!

  • Thanks

  • Excellent video*****

  • Thanks

  • I am the meanest SOB out here when it comes to ripping on rail fans. Mainly cause I was 'an officer' for the C&NW outta Itasca WI. I've lightened up since and must say you have absolutely gorgeous videos, product and entertainment. Please remember this is a place of business but as I see it, these parent roads can't be so uptight when they run equipment that beckons you (er fans) track side. Thanks for posting and showing respect for this dangerous yet intriguing mode of transportation.

  • Nice to hear from you. Thanks, for your comment

  • Your video is AWESOME! Thank you so much for sharing this.

We rode on this very same train Dec 5th 2009. Our twin boys LOVED it! We now plan to make this a yearly Family Holiday tradition.

  • Thanks for your kind comments

  • Nice shot! Looked like a volcano coming down the track... Love the HD video - I've been in the market for an HD cam for a while, just not sure which one to get.

Just out of curiosity, does your HG20 perform well in low light?

  • Thanks, the HG20 is not that good in low light.

  • Darn! Thanks for the info.

  • @W7ENK It really did look like a volcano!

  • WOW 111 comments already, this must be a very popular vid!!!! o_O

  • Thanks, for the comment

  • I realise rail gradients are not noticable particularly when walking, However, it makes a difference to a Loco and carriages.

It just makes one realise how powerful these beasts are, Wonderful!

  • Thanks for your comments

  • @drigin1234 You also notice the gradient when bicyling through the area.

  • What was the Gradient please?

It looks like the Loco was working so hard

    bless it!

  • No grade

  • @ervans Incorrect, it's about .6% up hill there. You can clearly see it on your footage even.

A little hint, if there is a curve, a rail road is either going up hill or down hill. Railroads don't build curves unless they have too get around something, and that something is usually a hill.

  • Ok I'll go with that, it didn't seem like anything when walking it

  • The Saturday 8:00 pm run was great proof. With jim having bumped up against the 12 hour rule, he had to relinquish control of the locomotive to a trainee. The guest engineer released the brakes before putting steam in the cyclinders and it rolled backwards about 4ft before pulling forward.

Those passenger cars of that era are goddamn heavy. Most of them have thick concrete floors. They didn't have active dampening back then and to smooth the ride they made them really fucking heavy.

  • Acctualy, those are Light Weight Streamlined cars of the Art Deco era, now the old Heavy weight choaches those things weighs tons.

  • They are vintage rail cars.

  • @ThomasRivette Look again, that is not the daylight consist. Those are early empire builder cars at the front. The Mt. Hood car is especially heavy. The sleeper car is no light weight either.

  • Which one is the Sleeper car?

  • The silver car in the consist just before the empire builder cars. Interesting car too, has disc brakes that were by original spec, electro pneumatic.

The mt. hood car is a lounge car, complete with a rather nice broadcast and longwave AM receiver. The pipe you see running across the top the full length of the car is the antenna!

  • The Mt. Hood, the 1st car.

  • @drigin1234 About .6% on that section of rail. Enough that the train will roll backward when comming off the brakes.

  • I like how the guy running beside the track acts like its nothing out of the ordinary to see a steam train...lol

  • Yes, I know what you mean

  • The rising steam is so cool.*****

  • Hi Munichon ! CNC think This Train need to be attention ! Police should give Driver a ticket !

  • CNC, you mean "Smoke Check" or something about "Go Green"?. No no, i am a commuter and get the E-Train everyday therefore the steam is for me a fantastic one.

  • I am just kidding - the steam like that everyday ? i have no idea about E-train you said . I used to drive go to work or take a bart - no steam like a lot of smoke .. it is No Good for the Air ?

  • when i saw that smoke tower i thought it was a volcano, :)

  • Thanks for your comment

  • what do you mean trains are operated on oregon pacific railroad and depart from oaks station?

  • good shot thanks for sharing

  • Thanks for the comment

  • But why it goes back?

  • It was giving 40 min rides and can not turn around.

  • Thanks

  • Great, clear video! You must have a really nice camera! I like all the steam at the beginning.

  • Thanks its a Canon Vixia HG20

  • So funny how the runners jogging by couldn't care less. Lol, at 2:26 it would have been hilarious if there had been another "careless" runner jogging by when he opened up the cylinder cocks to release the steam - that would sure teach them to take more notice of a steam locomotive!

  • Thanks for your comment

  • I have to agree with this guy!!!

  • All That I can Say is WOW!!! That was incredible put that one in the favorites for sure!! A true piece of history you captured right there! 10/5 I rated it twice!
