It's called the "piano roll" because its modeled after old player pianos which had a roll of paper with holes punched in it for the notes. The notes in FL studio piano roll are analogous to those rectangular holes.
Hey i just started making my own music, used LMMS a FREE software which didn't have good sounds but i made it work and now using FL studios and learning there going to bring my game to the next level
haha just listened with my Adam monitors they said that ur kicks attacked ALOOT to mutch.. what monitors do u use buddy ??. i compared Kjaurus with Fruity compressor i actually liked Fruitys more dont know but for kick i think its alot better
why do u EQ your kicks so high at 142hz? That is not where the bass is, 80hz is where the kicks should be EQ'd and sometimes a tiny boost at 5000hz???
@Dymond200 this video is old so a lot of the information is a bit inaccurate.
most systems can only produce sounds as low as 50-60 Hz anyway, and boosting close to that range might sound bad on some cheaper hardware. nowadays I usually play it by ear though. there's no "standard" place to eq, if someone tells you that it's complete rubbish. HOWEVER, most kicks resonate at *roughly* 130 Hz and at 2kHz, but boosting higher or lower than that can give different results. again it's all preference.
@DJT0nic No most sound systems do not sound bad if the kick has been EQ'd lower, experience shows me.. Also, if you are a Trance Producer you are not making tracks to be played on smaller systems, yes of course the average person will play it through low spec speakers but generally speaking, you are creating music to be played out on big rigs at gigs/events.. Where the speakers CAN produce the lower frqs, DJ's will not support your track if it sounds bad played in the club/festival.
@Dymond200 experience means nothing if the results still sound like shit. my behringer B3031As and pioneer HDJ-2000s aren't lying to me and it really depends on the samples being used. also, take into consideration the genre. boosting at 80 Hz can cause a disaster if done in the wrong way, in the wrong context. There IS NO standard Hz to boost for every kick because every sample will sound different from each other, you have to play it by ear.
@Dymond200 also, btw I checked out your channel and you have some decent stuff on there so I trust you know what you're doing. I'm not saying 80 Hz isn't a good place to boost at but I AM saying there's no universal frequency that works for every single kick.
If you're as pro as you say your are then you'd know that better than anyone.
Hey! I put everthing in my top half too! I thought i was doing it wrong because every video i see people don't do that. You should read this comment and reply to it. high fiveziez?
heheh it's interesting cause in FL v10 they are beginning to phase out the lower half. Guess it was a good idea to start using the top half after all :)
@DJT0nic Well, I can see why either would be good, because the top half you can see each of the notes, and therefore if you want to cut a phrase a note short you can, but in the bottom half you can work much more compactly. I tried to use the bottom it just never works out well D:
hello trancecrafter i wrote you a message in your myspace. about a problem i have. but now i will start my lessons with your tutorials again cuase finally i get the sylenth1 and is a completly diferent story to create trance. saludos
nice tutorial very easy to swallow and learn. good job Djtonic..thnx uve helped me a lot with this...to start were are the advanced tutorials? are u gonna make any?
No. This tutorial series is teaching more advanced functions of FL in order to create tracks at a much more advanced level. Using the presets/sample libraries that come within FL makes it extremely difficult and sometimes impossible to accomplish the same tasks with other 3rd party additions to FL.
So no, if you want to make music that will actually sound GOOD then you will need to get up and go FIND the proper tools. I have already stated what you need in the first video.
i have a question: its possible while you play ur computer keyboard, the melody u are making make without using the mouse?( sorry im not english so its difficult to me to explain)
Just wondering, did you teach yourself to do all of this, or did you do stuff at school that helped you with it or what? this is something i really want ot get into, buuut im not sure if its something i can just "do"
@ThaFrozenOne I've been teaching myself, mostly through experimentation and lots of practice. Youtube has lots of tutorials that teach each skill, but the problem I have found is that they are scattered all over the place. That is one of the things I hope to solve with this new series. The advantage you'll find with my new tutorials is that all of those skills will be found in a single, easy to find location. ;)
BITCH PLEASE... trancecrafter pwns. If anything, trancecrafter hates on you. Even in Soviet Russia, he STILL hates on you. He's the Chuck Norris of trance.
I cant see a thing. The cam is too close to the screen. For a begginer like me; its hard to work out were you are and its hard for me to compaire mine to yours.
fl studio is awesome i have the xxl producer edition and most of the vst . i just started about 2 months ago and have made some good progress but need the fine tuning skills like you. your new songs are def ten times better than your older ones keep on making good ass songs man!
Nah, I'm completely serious. What, would you prefer if I said that in different terms? :P
Okay, no problem. The gain on the compressor was up pretty high, and thus when I adjusted the attack/release envelopes, the sound level was peaking. in other words, the kick sounded like it was "more attacking."
Honestly people, do you have something better to do than poke fun at how I happened to phrase something? If some of you are advanced users and don't NEED a tutorial, then why watch it?
@MrFijiWiji ah alright, but i honestly believe every pro uses the majority of the programs, i mean im just starting out and ive got reason, ableton, fl studios, and audacity (lol)
@pufixas FL Studio can accomplish the same tasks that Reason, Cubase, Protools, and logic can all accomplish...and with ease. You just need to know what you're doing and where to find the features.
why does it matter which software package you use to create a piece of art with? what matters is the final product, not what tools you used to create it.
@pufixas it's not what program you use. it's how you use it. and your saying FL Studio is not pro go tell that to deadmau5 the number 1 dj in Canada. there is a whole list of pros who use FL Sudio.
What Sample packs would you recommend? I just got FL Studio 10 anything would help Thanks.
