  • Thank you Thom Bell, Linda Creed, Russell Thompson, The rest of the Stylistics and all who helped write, arrange and produce this masterpiece...

  • Reading everyone's comments give you a feeling of a deep appreciation of one of the true love songs of an era gone by. I first heard this song on the Armed Forces Network and we all thought it was strange hearing this song, however someone must have been caught up in the moment. This is truly a deep and inspirational song.

Philly i knew everyone that lived on my block...on Saturday mornings, during the summer, we would wake up early, move all the cars from the block and turn on the waterplug( fire hydrant).... we would block the street and families would clean the street...afterwards we kids would play,,,play...play...and there was always music playing....so much good music back then....thanks for the memories...

  • HERMOSA CANCION. ME DEVUELVE A LOS 70s, CUANDO TENIA 14 AÑOS.

  • This is pure beauty.....SENSUAL MAGNIFICENCE! This song displayed the Stylistics at the very apex of their greatness. Romantic, seductive, "love music"......they did it as well as anyone. "You're As Right As Rain" is 39 Years old, and I STILL have visions of warm fireplaces, cold wine & rainy evenings every time I hear it.

  • I remember having a major crush on a girl in HS and not being brave enough to ask her out for almost the entire year. Then I heard this song on WBLS and I guess it made me get up the nerve to ask her out. She said no, because her cousin really liked me, but we could be friends. I was crushed. Later on that year I remember being in a cab with her and wow, this song came on. Just like that she said, you know I just love this song... it makes me feel good. yup..., me too :O0 Unforgetable

  • @net43works

That's real cool, thanks for sharing. I can relate to such moments, its moments like that which make life exciting.

  • @net43works thats priceless....you should hav ask her out again

  • This song reminds me of this girl in high school I had a crush on. I managed to get the nerve to sing it to her and she became my girfriend.

  • @bro1da now that's whats up, bro :)

  • lovely - simply lovely.. my music during my youth still sounds just as beautiful as when I was mooning over my first love.... he was right as rain until he cheated on me... some crap you never forget - right ladies?? Still a lovely lovely song, ok youngsters take a lesson...

  • This song brings back special memories. Hallelujah for the Lamb.

  • A Thom Bell/Linda Creed classic, one of many. Johnny Mathis does a beautiful version, too. Thom Bell produced some classic music for Mr. Mathis, as well.

  • clasSICK!

  • The name of the group so eloquently sends a style that only they can portray.

  • this beautiful song has sort of the same sound as you make me feel brand new.thom bell and the late linda creed the best song writeing team ever out of philly.pa.

  • For my money, and I loved everything they did in Philly, this is my personal favorite!! How the Stylistics, Thom Bell and Linda Creed are'nt in the R&R Hall of Fame, is STILL beyond me! Or, maybe its not...

  • Who don't like this song?????

  • as sweet as rain baby, deep in my soul i cry out with love

  • Comment removed

  • It's the lyrics that were so moving, touching, so for filling. (strange how love can change your head-- your make me feel I been mislead. your as right as rain!!!!!

  • Thom Bell and his Philly Sound..ding dong vibes and angelic orchestration.

  • everytime i hear the stylistics i think of crooklyn my favorite spike lee joint. even though this song was not in the movie i think of it

  • What a song written by the late Linda Creed and sang magnificiently by the Stylistics...Classic, sultry, and timeless song

  • For all you people out there , this is called music., pure class

  • A time when music artist had skillzzz..thnx for posting

  • Minha banda preferida, já os conheci em 1985 com 15 anos, mas à partir dessa data sempre os tive comigo, emocionante ouví-los.

  • Being the age of 54 has a few "perks", I guess.........like being old enough to have purchased this music the day it first hit the music stores. God bless the 70's, and all the beautiful music that was created during that time period. The Stylistics were truly one of the "leaders of the pack" back in the day...........songs like "You're As Right As Rain" helped them get there.

  • So classy and romantic. This is the way that young men should express themselves to the most wonderful creature made by God.... A Woman!

  • Beautiful

    FirstChoice

  • I was 10/11 years old listening to this. It brings back so many good memories. Growing up on the westside of Chicago, listening to radio station WVON AM. Herb Kent would spin this all of the time. Then I found WWCA AM in Gary, Indiana. And Jim Raggs would play this and could never get enough and play it again. I miss those days. Can't listen to this song without my eyes watering up. I now undrstamd why Jim Raggs could never get enough of this song. I have to go now. Smoke in my eyes.

  • @IRONMANHONDO87 the rag-man!!!!

  • @IRONMANHONDO87 the rag-man!!!! great harmonies

  • @IRONMANHONDO87 I was 15 when this came out, Dr. Bop and O.C white were the big name disc jockey's in Milwaukee on radio station WAWA. It reminds me of my first girlfriend back in junior high. I too tear up when I hear these songs (like now). I have to go now, my shirt is getting wet.

  • @IRONMANHONDO87 I was14 and Young love was on my mind few years later I met my now wife love her till the day I DIE

  • can anyone here tell what time signature this is?

It aint 4/4 or 6/4...this arrangement is crazy as hell

and you will get lost counting 4/4

    Beautiful composition

  • @DoomCity202 To me it sounds like 4/4 time with some 8th notes sprinkled in and the guitar wa wa playing on the and on some notes

  • @nuggett06

    I counted it as:

"youre as right as rain"...5/4 1bar

    "mellow as a shower on a summers day"...4/4 x 2bars

i think it switches back n forth on the chorus

  • Mad, strong propers to you, PalmBeach1028, for posting this virtually timeless joint right here. Guides me back to those easy-lovin' days when music was effortless & the emotions were truly "softer than a flower - sweet as marmalade" ... I pity those who think what's on the airwaves & t.v. today is music - alas, you've so much to learn ... Hey, Valora B. ... Peace, peoples

  • this is my favorite song EVER!!!!!!!!!

  • The type of music we was all born to

  • Wish this song got more airplay,it's beautiful and true in so many ways.

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow! I'm glad to see that I'm not the only who grew up in this era, shedding some tears on this beautiful song. This wonderful music was a part of my formidable years.

  • as right as rain i was 12 years old loved this song paulina from philly

  • doesn't get much better than this...thanks for posting.

  • Seriously folks, does it get any sweeter than this? The 70's were my personal High School & College years......and the music of the Stylistics (along with the Temptations, O'Jays & Isley Brothers, to name a few), assisted me greatly during those years of maturation & emotional growth. A year ago, I purchased the "remastered" CD of the Stylistics "Round 2", which contains this song. There are times when I'm in the frame of mind to simply hit the "replay" button while admiring this "work of art".

  • You can't beat this for romantic honesty and beauty. fantastic singer and songwriter bell and creed. they touch my soul deeply! possibly the best stylistic song ever.

  • I've been a major Philly-phile since high school, and still discovering recordings I've never heard. I just discovered this song a few months ago, and it's become my new favorite Stylistics song. Thom Bell had a way with melody and arrangement. The sweetness of the melody, lyrics and arrangement are so poignant here, it makes me cry, and I ain't ashamed to be a guy and admit it. And I'm so glad to see young folks today discovering the Philly Sound for themselves. May it live on forever!

  • Round 2 has yet to matched in sheer artistry. The Perfect compilation of music. I had just returned to world when this album hit the streets. My friends-Chester Butler, Johnnie Jones, Carlton Coleman (My Bros I miss all of you...contact me)Our lafies at the time Cassandra Denise Huff; Daphne Huff...where are you??? A time in history that will never cease to be awesome.....

  • YOUR RIGHT AS RAIN....CANT BEAT DUSTIES!!!! RUSSEL THOMPKINS..YALL AINT READY!!

  • Sheer class. Just perfect! Real music.

  • i was 15..when this came out......and a new daddy

  • just good music!

  • I love Gamble and Huff, but let's not forget Thom Bell & Linda Creed and those fantastic arrangements, conducting, and production!! And then there is McFadden and Whitehead!

  • I often used to listen to this tune in my college school days about 30 years ago.

    It's very sweet music!

English is not my mother tongue. So I can not understand some parts of lyrics.

About the title, you are as right as rain, you know , the word "right" has a lot of meanings, doesn't it? I ask someone whose mother tongue is English about what the word right means. Please teach me it.

  • Beautiful song!.....GOD I love this song, I remember listening to this when I was little...and all the up til now, 25 yeard old

  • Wow,I'm hearing this after at least more than 30 years and i'm transported back to my early teens and I'm actually catching myself sobbing thinking of all the people that I loved back then no longer with me and saddened at how much this world has changed culturally since then. The music of todays youth has such an aura of hate and coldness and lack of soul.Much simpler happier times.

  • @OldMrMemories I couldn't have said it better myself....You hit the nail on the head.

  • @OldMrMemories I share your sentiments, couldn't have said it better myself

  • @OldMrMemories

Well spoken. I couldn't agree with you more. Although this music precedes my "era" (I grew up in the late 70s and 80s), but this is exquisite composition that I tie to my own more recent memories, its a beautiful song and truly wish there were musicians still composing like this. We've digressed in music, I sincerely hope we make a turn and take music back to this. God bless.

  • Now that's whant i call music!

  • TRIVIA...

Did you know that there were actually TWO versions of this album,

The one you see here with the FISTS and one without...

remember this was during the 70's and there was a lot af radicalism going on, and right after they released the fists, ths NEXT press of the album they quietly disappeared.

    Check out your parents albums

  • This is almost like classical music, but with the boring parts left out. Philly soul can't be beat.

  • This song is beautiful on so many levels. It is layered with beautiful strings, lead vocals, backup vocals, and percussion. Thom Bell and Linda Creed knew what they were doing and it showed. I never understood why the Stylistics left Bell for Hugo & Luigi. I think their material suffered heavily during that period without the help of Thom Bell. In terms of musical output, I think Blue Magic picked up where the Stylistics left off, just as the Stylistics picked up where the Delfonics left off.

  • @vidform Vidform, The During this Tommy Bell was on fire. He had the ability to "hear" what an artist sounded like. He was very prolific producing two albums worth of material at a time and producing classics on the Spinners and Stylistics at the same time. William Hart, lead singer of the Delphonics was not the original lead singer until Thom changed the group around. He would work w/ groups until he couldn't "hear" them. Then he moved on.

  • @taylor4660 Linda Creed would write her lyrics in a separate room and come back and try them out on Thom.

  • @vidform The Stylistics (as well as the Blue Notes) were poor studio singers. Thom Bell, Linda Creed, Kenny Gamble, Bunny Siglers did all the backgrounds on these songs.....

  • I haven't heard this song in over 10 years, my mom used to have this album and I personally love this song, so beautiful and so lovely unlike today's crap!

  • What happened to original lead singer? and who is the new singer that they have?

  • @blodachia The origional lead singer is still singing. He started a group called russell thompkis jr and the new stylistics. If you want to see him always look for the name russell thompkins jr.

  • @blodachia there are two groups one with Russell Thompkins who left the original group a couple years ago and the olg group with new singer Eban Brown.

  • NICE..Check out the Bob James version...REAL smoooooth..

  • love making music...i am happy to have lived in this era, my life was shaped by these groups, who were capable of bonding two as one with their soul stirring melodies, songs that played in our hearts even as the era has gone by...i love those of our generation, and the ones who love this music...

  • @2009Denisem Wow! Denise such a quick turn around girl thanks for the confirmation. I guess we're just going have to rely on each other to keep alive those good memories and positive spirits that we had as kids.

  • @2009Denisem Your post touched my heart b/c it is so true.....

  • *****

  • A standing prolonged appaulse gentlemen...........well done

  • My Brothers and Sisters, this is music. This is one of the many songs from this era that takes me back to my youth. It was time when men sang about cherishing the women in their lives. Men who weren't afraid the express their feelings and how much they loved their women. It's really a shame music like is a distant memory to me and many old schoolers! Peace and Blessings

  • Novena canción de su segundo album de 1972

  • i remember this song from the album Round 2 " The Sylistics" The lead singer had the best high voice from all the 7O's soul groups. whoever wrote this must have really loved somebody

  • @MrDouglassmc Linda Creed was the songwriter. Many of her lyrics were inspired by her husband.

  • @taylor4660 thank you for the history....

  • If this song does not absolutely soothe your soul no matter if it's the firsttime you've heard it or the millionth time, then you're spritually dead. Love it.

  • way back when... back in the 'war'...

    Ellsworth AFB... the 70s...

the barracks on the top of the hill...

    across 110th street...

    friday nights...

the black lights and the Stylistics setting the mood...

    oilin' up...

Willard... Terry... Snake... and the rest of the guys...

    fond memories...

  • As I sit and listen...yes, I am "right as rain"...but he hasn't appreciated what fell from the sky. Loving this...this is realness

  • wow this is really beautiful track

  • Man, Russell handles the chorus like ...i mean wow!!!

  • just one of many great songs they made that got no radio play.

  • PURE BLISS..........a slice of "Old School" musical Heaven! You can't put a value on this type of music folks.........it's absolutely priceless. As the old expression goes: "They don't make em' like this anymore!" Sadly, they sure as hell don't.

  • What an Album! As a young boy I would listen to these songs until I fell asleep. Truly a classic recording.

  • It's Sad that the Brotha's ain't slow dancing with there queen nowadays.......And the young bucks don't even have a clue on how to slow dance (SMH) But I put that blame on us not being there for our young males to set a positive example on how to treat a lady:( Now this is the conseqence of OUR lack of action!!!!

  • @lchulo I had not thought about it that way. You are right, ICHULO. We need to make our beautiful sisters know that they are precious.

  • @2009Denisem What can i say, this is a truly beautiful song, what is it about the stylistics and wonderful music, and the lyrics are just what you would expect of them. Simply Superb!! Thank you.

  • No R & B like this anymore....love this song!

  • wad song, uses this songs first 20 seconds, its a rap song whos it by?

  • I sang this to my then girlfriend, she love it. Thanks Russell and the Stylistics, and thanks for the post!!

  • This song is so beautiful to me! It makes me wanna cry becuz it is so lovely. You just can't find songs like this anymore nowadays!!

  • This one almost slipped by me! another Stylistics CLASSIC! it's as right as RAIN! softer than a flower, sweet as marmelade....Ahhhhhhhh..MMMMmmmmmmmm..

  • This is absolutely precious! R&B/SOUL from the 70's holds a very special place in my heart......the memories this music conjures up are priceless. High School, College, my first meaningful job.......my first meaningful girl! (smile). I vividly recollect listening to this tune, back in the day, sipping on a little "ghetto" wine at home.....on a slightly overcast day. The effects of the wine, the atmosphere & the Stylistics were MESMERIZING! Good music (like this) is timeless!

  • @2009Denisem Yes...I WAS right!

I definitely hear birdies singin Love tunes here!

    Right Here!

    You Go girl!

  • @2009Denisem Do I hear the little chirping of Spring Love Birds?

Yes...They are cooing right ova dare!

  • @2009Denisem Sweet Denise...as always you pull a classic outta Ur Hat!

Thank you for posting this :)

  • Had to come back to this, just heard a cover that was not good enough and I needed to get it out of my head. Also, I could listen to this repeatedly without stopping. Where did it all go?

  • Now this is the type of music that will make any relationship stronger!!!

  • this is great music im 29 and i have to say thease classics are better than most new joints out now.

  • @nodxelor I Agree !

  • My little Brother Tony McElwain hip me to this cut in the 70''s I'm 54 yrs now I really hear music with my ear's what MEMORIES R I P little Brother

  • This is one of my faves - thanx for the post

  • Love this song

  • Love this song so much, but the last part of the it is what gets me. Usually, when a singer gets to that part of the song, and when they're singing a ballad like this, they will start to pour on emotions, and the power. But Russell is as calm as you please. Love the poise that he has at that part of the song. Hearing that gets the butterfies fluttering in my tummy:)

  • thank you for posting this song. listening to it brought back so much memories! (very good ones!) please, don't ever, ever delete this!

    thanks once more.

  • @ sideburn260 I completly agree, I couldn't have said it any better born 02/02/77. Had no idea about this music but when i matured it was waiting right there for me classic music trasends time and reality.

  • yeah great good times plus music like this..miss it..

  • To my friend Annette L.F.

    Forever yours,

    Mike

  • This song was playing when my wife told me I was going to be a father.Every time I hear this song it makes me think about my daughter & how blessed I'am to have her in may life.Damn good song, classic!!!

  • Thank You Palm Beach 1028. Great Post

  • Another ear orgasm!!!! OHHHHH!!!!!

  • THIS SOME MAKES ME SMILE ! :-)

  • just close your eyez and let the gr8ness take you away....i am!

  • I think the Philadelphia sound was the best music ever period!!!!!

  • A Masterpiece. 3 geniuses: Linda Creed - lyrics, Thom Bell-composer, Russell Thompkins - vocals.

  • Amazing, simply amazing, almost cathartic in description. I could listen to this over and over and never get tired (matter of fact I've been doing that all day) I'm gonna' buy the album.

  • It's interesting that the Stylistics are my parents' generation yet they never did had any care for them. I was born in '77, the hip-hop generation and I very much appreciate what they have to offer. I can't help but to love the Stylistics. Just goes to show that good music transcends generations.

  • brings back time.... tnx for sharing.******

  • I love the Stylistics. All of their songs are 'great cuts' . Their songs takes me back down memory lane. Their music is so smooth and soothing. Thanks for sharing PalmBeach1028

  • I like the Stylistics better than Blue magic. but this song and three ring circus by blue magic is the best songs by both of the philly soul groups.

  • You Philadelphians have every right to gloat. Your city has produce groups and single acts who have given the world a profound, unique, and captivating blend of music. The Stylistics, Blue Magic, The Tymes, Delphonics, Brenda and The tabulations, etc ,etc. I am a North Carolina country boy who dearly loves good music , sounds. Nobody does it any better than the" Philly sound"- MFSB, Harold Melvin, Gamble and Huff, in my judgment. Look out Motown!
