The strain shouldn't be that bad for 2D video glasses, the virtual image will probably seem to be several meters away from you. Or rather, the strain shouldn't be bad if the manufacturers have ensured that the apperant distance to the virtual image based on the stereo separation of the two images and the focusing distance the glasses emulate is close, if the virtual image appears to be 4 meters away, but you have to focus like it is 1 meter away the eye strain might be bad.
