Haha I remembering my last western Riding Pattern on my paint gelding. My mom decided to sign me up for the pattern like 2 mins before the class and I didn't even know the pattern so I went in there and after doing the serpintines I totally forgot what I was doing next so I just kinda jogged and did some wierd thing but it must have been right cuz I got second out of 13 haha. I was pleasently suprised. But it was a great and fun experience. Good job :)
haha you have to admit that those one tempis were pretty cool..I'm thinking about bridging over to western riding from first level dressage and hus and I was just curious how you get such obedient quiet changes..how do you usually start your horses with changes? any tricks you like to keep in mind? thanks:)
They were, I am still surprised!! Getting changes, just one requires doing them a lot. Your horse has to mentally and physically get good at changing leads. My suggestion is to not do it everyday but at most three times per a week to devoting your ride to changes. After awhile, the horse will figure it out! Remember, don't go too slow or they cannot do the change well. Good luck!
Hmm, that would be EXTREMELY difficult. There is a fine line between doing just a lead change and doing a good lead change. I highly doubt a video could capture the minute` details that go into training a western riding. I am sorry.
haha that was so freakin awesome. I think you shouldve gotten bonus points for all those extra changes LOL!!! It was like all of a sudden his change button was seriously stuck!!!! WOW that was awesome tho i couldnt stop laughing what a goof ball!
I did most of the teaching myself, yes. I have recently (as in a year) been going to lessons to perfect the change. But trust me, I didn't teach him those 1 tempi's, Ha ha.
ahahhahha!!! that was so funny when he was all 'im gonna go dressage on this class' haha. your pattern looked really great until he decided to do the one tempis. hahaha. hes probably like ok, lets just get these lead changes over with haha.
Haha! He was mad at me and I could tell like on the start of the center changes. I had the chiropractor out today and it turns out his shoulder was out. I am pretty sure that is why he did that. After getting adjusted, he was really happy! Glad he is back to normal. I usually don't believe in that sort of thing, but it worked for Germ and he is a lot happier now.
I don't really either. But Germ is 12 and needs some help. She was screaming at germ "BREATHE BREATHE! BREATHE!" that was kinda weird. If I had my choice, I wouldn't do that.
Horsemanship is judged on how you ride and how well you complete the designated pattern. Western riding is a series of eight lead changes that you must complete on a pattern of either 1,2,3, or 4. You can find these patterns in your rule book. Western riding is judged on the quality of lead change and not at all about the rider. Thanks!
OMG that is so funny!! You can't say that he isn't a freaky talented lead changer...he is so much like his sister, it is scary!!! She does that sometimes...I guess that it is just too easy for them to change leads. You deserved extra credit for those!
beautiful horse ! :)

Any chance of putting up a video showing your training techniques for teaching lead changes? :-) Thanks!

Almost. There are four different patterns that the show officials will choose from to do. They will let you know at the beginning of the show.
