It great to hear all the lay-people say these maneuvers are routine for miltary helicopter operations, which is nonsense. Slowing a helicopter from 120 knots and dropping it into a hot LZ while staying 6 feet of the deck would be impossible, as would autorotation. True NOE terrain masked operations are done at much slower speeds, and high speed flight is done at or above the contour flight altitudes, typically 75 to 100 feet AGL.

Its something very normal in aHostile enviornment to carry out low flying and do the CATO ( concealed approch & take off) for a LZ in hostile territory ,any Military pilot would do it to survive , Practicing it, is a thrill , specially once You have Your Radio Altimeter servicable

the clip is great the birds in question belong to the french airforce and the filming was done in chad the external shot were taken from a gazelle if i remember and that was the co the gazelle is in others and there great as well better than getting shot at and a load more fun

Awesome. Just shows what you can do when you are bored, and the machine belongs to the taxpayer. Technically they are still in the Height/Velocity curve for a safe auto, but at that altitude you cannot afford to sneeze.

I might be wrong but that looks like it was taken in South Africa, we also use the puma and the terain looks like that to, our pilots wear that same clothes and i have seen somthing like that live.
