@criticaldesign@nick153452 Friction is a major limiting factor in how long the sculptures run. I counter it as much as possible by using high grade stainless steel ball bearings. Also I use the limited energy the spring provides to create pure motion, not to power a time keeping mechanism. I was always more interested in the pendulum rather than the whole clock!
@criticaldesign Kinetic energy and motion? Aren't those the same thing?? Personally, I don't see how these things could run for that long, unless they have a ton of potential energy built up to run for hours and hours and hours.. Friction is a bitch!
@Nick153452 All clocks used to have wind up mechanisms, that with a little bit of winding, could last a whole day before needing to be wound up again. From what I've seen, these sculptures use the same sort of mechanism, though not precise enough to be able to tell time by them.

Do you hand-craft the parts for these, or CNC? Everything is so consistent, which adds much to the elegance.

I love your stuff. You, sir, are talented at a craft everyone can truly enjoy :)

Apparently it stores potential energy in a spring by 'loading it' then releasing it to kinetic energy & motion.
