  • i was expecting a bass guitar solo -.- this is still epic XD

  • Please just show the music. Thank you.

  • Hopefully I can help clarify this....This guy IS a bass. He may sound like a baritone compared to some of the lower guys, but the lowest here was an Eb2, which sounded quite easy for him. The range of a typical bass goes down to E2. This guy fits in that range and slightly lower, so he's definitely a bass.

Now guys like Tim Riley are in a range known as Basso Profundo, or "deep bass". They are gifted and in the cases of Tim Riley and London Parris, they were taught techniques for good tone.

  • @GamingDrummer89 Just because someone isn't a Basso Profundo doesn't make him a baritone. Maybe compared to a deep bass he sounds like a baritone, but the guy here is still a bass. Specifically, he's not a Basso Profundo, but rather a normal Bass.

  • That's like hearing a tenor sing an F5 and saying that since he isn't singing the highest note there is, that he's not a tenor.

  • Being able to hit a low note and carry a tune is two different things, JD, George, or most any bass singer, never did their best singing when they were trying to see how low they could go. Most just sound like they are coughing up phlegm and a bull frog in mating season has more tone. Greg does ok. You ever notice that Stuban of the Oaks only drops down when it fits the tune.

  • I do sing bass and I am sorry but that sounds like more of a baritone that has a decent vocal range. Real bass singers such as J.D. Sumner or Ray Reese of The Kingsmen are bass singers. But very good song.

  • Nice group, and a really good bass singer.

    Good diction!

I'm sure this young talented bass singer would appreciate some of my favorite bass singers, Jimmy Jones from Harmonizing Four, Dickey Freeman from The Fairfield Four, and Jimmy Ricks of The Ravens.

Thanks for sharing this good video with everyone.

  • fairfield four got the hardest bass u cud ever hear. dis one is more baritone

  • sounds like a baritone with a cold.

  • Sounds like a baratone with a cold. Tim Riley is a bass.

  • As a professional bass singer myself in an ' a cappella' group from Canada called The Essentials, I can tell you that this guy IS a bass.

He's comfortable hitting a low Eb with nice resonance in this video which is a full tone lower than the "definition" of a bass singer (someone who can hit at least a low F).

Not every song has to be sung by a bass at the very bottom of their range. :)

    Peace,

    Jo3

  • Bass singer? Not at all.....Listen to Richard Sterban or Tim Riley

  • @mreddiemush dont forget harold reed

  • Bass? My mother sings lower.....listen to Richard Sterban or Tim Riley

  • he's not bass

  • hey,.,.,do u have a minus one of that music

  • what a bass that he has. let's use our talent even in a simple voice like his. use it for the glory of God..GBU all..

  • It doesn't really matter who sings better or not, and if u like his voice, its all about glorifying God! Thats my 2 cents!

  • he sings in the same range as jeremy lile and everyone thinks he's one on the best basses out there.

  • @lowluvver 2 words jd sumner

  • Yeah, this guy is more like a baratone. I'm a baratone and i can match his range very easily. He is singing a bass harmony, but if it was a real bass singer it would probably actually be an octave lower

  • @bishops0258 Funny since he doesn't sing any harmony in the entire song.

  • I can sing BASS better than that ! Even though I have never sang in a Quartet as a BASS, I sang bass in a choir @ Church ! and I used to reach Low E/F , 2 steps below the BASS G B D F A staff !

  • im a baritone and all this solo is in my range

  • Many of you have it right. I'm a bass singer in a quartet and those notes are not hard but it's more fun singing in baritone and even tenor at times. I stick with bass on Gospel songs but enjoy other ranges on others. That was one of the great things about George Younce--he could also sing beautifully in the upper registers if he wanted.

  • Yes the bass singer is a smooth singer but i have to say tim riley is much better but the bass singer is still

  • well there arent many people that you can compare with tim riley

  • yes! Great bass....if anyone does not like it, try to sing bass your own self! Not all basses are easily understood, he is, and that is a true compliment in the singing world! Nice/smooth/melodic voice!

  • Very good. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for posting.

  • Amen...I really thank God coz am not what I was...

  • i dn' ge some comments, i talked tosome music guy at my church and he said you don't have to go low as Tim Riley,JD, George or any of those bass legends, you'll just have to be able to hit certain notes, i think its like 3 notes before the low C (do,re,mi,"fa",sol,la,si,do) . Correct me if im wrong.

  • @chipojo2008 Bass is defined as two octaves below middle C. The ones you mentioned and myself at times are three octaves below that.

  • @ramey58 well idk then, this guy a pretty good jobs on high notes, he makes them look as if they were low, anyways the point is that he is good, even tough he doesn't hit low notes in this video, he still sings good.

  • @chipojo2008 Yes, he's a fantastic baritone who can also dip into the bass range. Nothing wrong with that.

  • I think awesome was the wrong word. Good maybe but not quiet awesome. Atleast he's singing for the lord.

  • no he doesn't stink at all. Let us not compare credentials... This is gospel music and he has a uniique voice and carries the bass well. Of course it may not please you, but it does me - and I trust the One for whom it si ssung as well. Peace,

  • Comment removed

  • sure - not in the same class as JD or George, but stll a nice-to-listen-to voice.

  • This guy has a strangley high timbre but he isn't half bad... I really liked his ability to maintain a stable voice if nothing else.. And he managed to add one good low note in there! Not bad man 4.5/5

  • gorgeous bass voice, enjoy it.

  • Nice Video, Check out my videos too, if you have some time you can check it out and rate and comment. Thank You and God Bless !!!

  • A nice song from this awesome quartet. Thumbs up to the bass singer. God bless you

  • solid bass, very solid,

  • As JD would say does it matter? The man is singing for the Lord and he is passable. as for George, Rex Nelon ect great man in their own catagory! However, the bass for Ernie Haase and SS he is good. time to enjoy those who now sing. We can enjoy the old guys here on Youtube and with the gaither videos.

  • Great bass.I have a christian site that has just started. It's free and anyone wanting to chat with other christians let me know and I will tell you where to go???

    That didn't sound right.

  • sounds good!

  • hmmm,... for a great bass singer check out the palmetto state quartet

  • Nicely done!

  • This guy is a good bass singer.

It is a mistake to think that any bass who can not hit a double-low C is no good.

I love to be entertained by JD (I listened to him over 50 years), but he could never blend into the harmony of a group like this guy. I'll take this guy any day over those guys who sing with the mic burried in their mouths and sound like a truck backfire.

  • You are kidding, aren't you? The man who could nail a G below staff, who was a figure with Elvis, the Blackwoods, the Stamps? You say he couldn't blend? Do you have peanut butter in your ears?

  • LOL that was freakin hellarious...and ur right..I'm a huge JD fan and i will agree some of the stuff he hit does not sound all that great once u get past a certain lowness but he could blend with a mule taking a dump. If ur elvis' right hand man and he picks u....then ur the best there is, was, and will ever BE!

  • I grew up on JD, George Younce, Harold Reid, Herman Harper, Noel Fox. I'm a bass singer myself, in the same league as this One Accord guy, and neither he nor I have the chops those guys had!

  • Yeah....I sing bass on a few songs...mostly lead and baratone in our group...not really a bass singer. I wish I was but im not. Man Herman harpar was just amazing man..he could get lower than richard sturban...What happened to him??

  • Herman Harper left the Oaks in the late 60s, a couple of years after Duane Allen took over for Smitty Gatlin. Noel Fox replaced him. He went to work for an agency in Nashville, booking the Oaks and other acts, and eventually opened The Harper Agency, which is still one of the biggest in gospel music.

He was a Baptist deacon and a backup singer on Nashville recording sessions for years, and died in 1993.

  • ah man that stinks...didn't know all that. Man with his talent he coulda sang for anyone he wanted!....guess thats not what he wanted to do. Man what i'd give to have a voice like his! thanks for info brother!

  • You goitta remember that back in those days, unless you were the Blackwoods, Stamps or the Statesmen, you couldn't make a living in Gospel music -- you lived on what you got, or you had a 'day job', which most of them did. For example, I won't name the group, but the tenor for one of the most successful acts in Gospel music in the 60s and 70s had a professional photography business.

  • forgot to add -- I never met him, but he was my all-time favorite low-sounding bass singer. George Younce and I were friends, and I'd say he was the best soloist I ever heard who sang in the bass range. But Herman Harper could nail the low notes like nobody except JD.

  • did he have a cold?

  • i like this it was really good thanks for sharing

  • I enjoyed your video, Very Good! If you like you can find my video on " YouTube" under Wayne Weberpal. I also have a Music CD on EBay under "Mansion Over the Hilltop". Best wishes, Wayne Weberpal

  • This is pretty cool! (4 stars)

  • your name suits you well american"pride". always something better out there and you have the answers. Gospel singing should be different than worldly singing. We should not judge christian singers based on talent, looks, etc. Anyone who lifts the name of Jesus in song should be applauded and encouraged. I love the critics too but we need more singers proclaiming the good news more often. Go forth One Accord!

  • exactly.....AMEN!

  • Good sound. But the performance was a quite stilted. It's a great song but here it had no feeling... No "Oomph!"

As for the bass singer. He has potential that time will bring out. As for this video though, his voice was too bright.

I, myself, sing in a mixed quintet here in Ms, so I know how it can be starting out. One Accord Quartet, good luck in your ministry.

  • he is not a bass hes more a baritone bass or low baritone or a high baritone bass good sounding group though

  • fantastic group and I wish I could start a quartet with that bass. WOW!

  • Are you actually listening to him???? OK singer, but not a very low bass singer .

  • id like to hear more of this group.what are they called?

  • In One Accord Quartet

  • Cool...thank you guys.

  • Nice harmonies.
